CONCORDIA LUTHERAN CHURCH Concordia is the Church where the love of Christ is shared through our hearts, our hands, and our voices. FIFTH SUNDAY IN LENT April 7, 2019 8:00, 9:30 & 11:00 a.m. Oh sing to the LORD a new song, for he has done marvelous things! -Psalm 98:1a AS WE GATHER When sin reigns supreme in our hearts, we are not free. It s as if we are imprisoned and Satan is our jailor. He laughs and jeers at us, reveling in our misery and our fate in his hands. But, when we confess our sins and sincerely repent of them, God will set us free. Jesus sacrifice has atoned for our sins forever. Jesus told us that we just need to believe in Him. God s love for us is so strong and so deep, we cannot fully understand it. All we need to do, though, is believe. Oh, and don t feel shy about sharing your belief with others who don t yet know God s love for them. Just tell them, for that s what Jesus wants us to do, and let the Holy Spirit do the rest. (11:00) PRELUDE Choir Lamb of God Words and music by Twila Paris, Arranged by Mark Hayes ANNOUNCEMENTS (p.15-17) CALL TO WORSHIP and PASSING OF THE PEACE RINGING OF THE BELLS (Please stand and face the Cross) 1

+ DIVINE SERVICE SETTING ONE + (Hymnal, p. 151) 2 OPENING HYMN #811 Oh, That I had a thousand Voices INVOCATION Pastor: In the name of the Father and of the + Son and of the Holy Spirit. People: Amen. CONFESSION AND ABSOLUTION Psalm 51:1 3; Amos 6:1, 4, 6 Pastor: If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. People: But if we confess our sins, God, who is faithful and just, will forgive our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. (Silence for reflection on God s Word and for self-examination) Pastor: Let us then confess our sins to God our Father. People: Most merciful God, we confess that we are by nature sinful and unclean. We have sinned against You in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done and by what we have left undone. We have not loved You with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. We justly deserve Your present and eternal punishment. For the sake of your Son, Jesus Christ, have mercy on us. Forgive us, renew us, and lead us, so that we may delight in Your will and walk in Your ways to the glory of Your holy name. Amen.

Pastor: Almighty God in His mercy has given His Son to die for you and for His sake forgives you all your sins. As a called and ordained servant of Christ, and by His authority, I therefore forgive you all your sins in the name of the Father People: Amen. 3 INTROIT (Psalm 126) Pastor: 1 When the LORD restored the fortunes of Zion, we were like those who dream. People: 2 Then our mouth was filled with laughter, and our tongue with shouts of joy; then they said among the nations, The LORD has done great things for them. Pastor: 3 The LORD has done great things for us; we are glad. People: 4 Restore our fortunes, O LORD, like streams in the Negeb! Pastor: 5 Those who sow in tears shall reap with shouts of joy! People: 6 He who goes out weeping, bearing the seed for sowing, shall come home with shouts of joy, bringing his sheaves with him. (Please remain standing) PRAYER OF THE DAY Pastor: The Lord be with you. People: And also with you. Pastor: Let us pray together. ALL: Almighty God, by Your great goodness mercifully look upon Your people that we may be governed and preserved evermore in body and soul; through Jesus Christ, Your Son,

our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen. Pastor: The Holy Gospel according to St. Luke, the 20th chapter.

After the reading: Pastor: This is the Gospel of the Lord. 5 APOSTLE S CREED All: I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth. And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day he rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From thence He will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life + everlasting. Amen.
