The Booster Illinois District Church of the Nazarene January 2018 Issue Nothing will be impossible for you Illinois PO Box 185 Bethalto, IL 62010 Phone: (618) 717-0381 (618) 462-4361 Email: office@illinoisnaz.org Facebook: Illinois District Church of the Nazarene From the District Superintendent Cont. Jesus had a remarkable way of connecting with all kinds of people. He was our great example of taking the message of the gospel to the lost and broken of our communities. In the gospel of John, chapter four, we find Jesus reaching into the life of the Samaritan woman. She had lived a tough, ungodly life. She was seeking something different something better something life transforming. This story is a model of Intentional Evangelism. Jesus was building a relationship with a needy person with the intent of bringing them into a relationship with God. In teaching His disciples the concept of Intentional Evangelism, Jesus taught them an important lesson. Do you not say, Four months more 2018 will be a Year of Harvest for the Illinois District. This year all of our churches can move forward with Intentional Evangelism. Reaching into the lives of lost and broken people can be one of your personal goals for 2018. God will bless you and His Church will move forward. This is our day!!! Let s be about His business of reaching into the lives of unchurched people. Have a Happy New Year!! Jim and then the harvest? I tell you, open your eyes and look at the fields? They are ripe for harvest (John 4 : 35). Because of Jesus intentional conversation with the woman, the Scripture tells us that Many of the Samaritans from that town believed in him because of the woman s testimony (Vs. 39). Arron Lynn ~ SDMI Chairman Discipleship Ministries Greetings to the Illinois District! 2017 has come and gone (too fast for sure). 2018 is here and I am excited about the possibilities that a New Year brings for each of us and the churches the Father has called us to shepherd. I am also excited to serve alongside each of you as we lead people to Christ and begin them on their discipleship journey. Great days are ahead all across the Illinois District! As you are filling up dates on your new calendar, be sure to mark January 27th. This is an important opportunity for us to be stretched, challenged, and equipped to lead and engage in congregations in outreach and discipleship. I am excited for the future. I am excited to serve as the District SDMI Chair. I look forward to getting to know each of you better in the coming months. Grace and Peace, Aaron Lynn Missions January Emphasis: Volunteer Ministries So you want to DO something. But what? NMI Pres. Sandy Stickler We've done the footwork and put together a smorgasbord of ideas for ways you and your church can get involved in mission through the Church of the Nazarene. Take Work & Witness, for instance. You can organize a team of volunteers to go almost anywhere in the world for a few weeks. Your group will pool your skills and resources to work on a desperately needed project, while sharing Christ's love and building relationships with local Nazarenes and their neighbors. Or look at LINKS. Talk about practical. Missionaries and churches are paired up for two-year sessions to develop a personal relationship. Through praying, sending letters, e-mails, and packages your church supports the missionary family. You send a powerful message that even though they are out of sight, they are not out of mind. Or out of your prayers. Check out the other great ideas and get your church involved. There's no time like now. To find out more go to http://nmi.nazarene.org/getinvolved/topic.html And Just a reminder that we will be hosting a Missions Tour with Cliff & Heike Wright - Amman, Jordan - April 2-11. ROB JONES McCORKLE Thursday, Feb 8 at 7:00 pm Friday, Feb 9 at 9:00 am; 2:00 pm & 7:00 pm Saturday, Feb 10 at 9:00 am SHERMAN CHURCH OF THE NAZARENE 7085 VILLAGE CENTER DRIVE SHERMAN, IL 62684 REV. COREY JONES Rev. Corey Jones has been married for 25 years. He and his wife, Beth Ann have two children, Matthew and Luke. Pastor Corey received his undergraduate education at Olivet Nazarene University near Chicago, where he met Beth Ann. Pastor Corey received his Master's degree in Theology at Southern Methodist University - Perkins School of Theology. Beth Ann earned a Master's degree in Social Work from the University of Texas at Arlington. Pastor Corey and Beth Ann have used their training to help people reach their full potential and calling for Christ, whether through preaching, teaching, or counseling. DR. ROB McCORKLE In 2006, Rob nearly resigned from his church and left the ministry. Encouraged by a few Leaders, he left for a seven week sabbatical. During those weeks, Rob experienced an encounter with God that, in his words, wrecked his life in a good way. Upon returning to his church in the spring of 2007, he shifted the paradigm of his church From being program centered to presence centered. The emphasis was no longer about enticing seekers to come, but seeking for the manifest presence of God s glory to come. Within a few weeks, the presence of God fell on Crossroads Community Church in Obetz, Ohio. People were saved, sanctified, healed, delivered, and set free from major strongholds. The power of God s Spirit manifested and a culture of revival was birthed in Rob s heart. He began to see the necessity to combine the Word and the Spirit. To put it another way, Rob believes in the message of purity and power. In 2013, he completed his Doctor of Ministry from United Theological Seminary in Dayton, Ohio. His dissertation discusses the fusion of Word and Spirit in the Holiness movement with special emphasis on the supernatural gifts. Rob is the founder of Fire School Ministries, a ministry organization with the distinct purpose of re-digging the wells in the Holiness movement
