K-2nd September 29-30 2018 Kids Club Rome: Power Book of Romans, Romans 10:9 Anything other than Jesus will let you down. Part 1 (15 minutes) Large Group (5-10 minutes after service starts) Part 2 (10-15 minutes) Game Time Part 3 (10 minutes) Cool Down Time Part 4 (10-15 minutes) Large Group Part 5 (10-15 minutes or until the end of service) Small Groups This is Week 1 of Kids Club Rome a special series straight from the ancient city of Rome! It s the first in a five week series specially designed for kids to experience the wonder of following Jesus in a new and unexpected way that they re gonna love. You can watch the full weekly episodes for this series on the Crossroads Kids Club youtube channel or crossroadskidsclub.net. As kids arrive, give each kid a different colored dot sticker. This will determine which team they re on. Each small group needs a different color. Keep kids in small groups until their parents pick them up. You can use coloring pages, mazes and word searches as an extra time activity! Here s this week s big idea: Anything other than Jesus will let you down. Only Jesus has the POWER to rescue us, heal us, restore us, and give us lasting freedom and peace.

Part 1 (Large Group) Main Goal: Introduce and discuss today s BIG IDEA: Anything other than Jesus will let you down. Supplies: None Video: Kids Club Rome / Week 1 Teaching (Find the video at crossroadskidsclub.net/ weekend) Time: 15 minutes *Start large group 10 minutes into the service. INTRO: KIDS CLUB ROME Welcome: Hi everybody, welcome to Kids Club! We re starting something really special today a brand new series created just for you. The cool thing about this series is that we filmed some really special stuff...but not anywhere around here. Not even in America! We filmed.in Rome, Italy! Say: Has anyone ever heard of Rome? (Let kids respond.) I bet so! It s a city in Italy, and it s really, really old. It has a bunch of history, and a lot of things have happened there over thousands and thousands of years. (Click to show image of Rome) Anyone recognize any of the things in this picture? (Let kids respond and call out what they see.) Those things are all pretty cool, but we re going to be hearing about way cooler stuff about the people who first followed Jesus. Say: A lot of Jesus early followers lived in Rome, or they traveled there to tell others about Jesus. Most people in Rome had no idea who Jesus was, or worse.they hated Jesus! They thought that their own fake gods were powerful. They had no idea that Jesus is the only one who has real power. Say: We re going to watch a video that s all about today s BIG IDEA: Anything other than Jesus will let you down. There s a lot of cool stuff to see, and it s a little different than what we normally do. Let s check it out! Video: Kids Club Rome / Week 1 Teaching (6 minutes) Say: Rome is a pretty cool place, and there were a lot of powerful people who lived there. But no one is more powerful than Jesus, and he s the only one who will NEVER let us down. Ask: Does anyone know what the most incredible thing Jesus did to show his power? (Let kids respond.) He died for us, and then came back to LIFE! And when we tell Jesus that we believe that, we get to follow him! Say: There s a book in the Bible called Romans, and it s a whole book written for Jesus followers who were living in Rome! Let s check out this verse (have kids read it along with you if they can). Slide: Romans 10:9 If you declare with your mouth, Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. Say: Woah, that s is pretty amazing! We get to be part of God s family, and follow him forever, by believing that he died for us! *Start the 10-minute timer for the next part of the lesson.

Part 2 (Game Time) Main Goal: Play a game to help kids understand today s big idea. Supplies: Heart stickers (5 per room per service) Video: 10-minute countdown timer Time: 10 minutes WALKING HOSPITAL TAG Say: Now let s play a game and have some fun! In this game, we ll have to help each other, and rely on our team mates, just like we have to rely on Jesus to help us too! Stay in one large group. This is a walking game of tag. Anyone who runs is automatically tagged. The adult leaders are it. Once a kid is tagged, they have to pretend to be injured in the spot/body part they were tagged (Ex: If tagged on the shoulder, they have to continue walking as if they have an injured shoulder. If tagged on the leg, they have to limp, etc.) If a kid is tagged a second time, they have to sit. When all kids are sitting, the game is over. Play normally the first time. Then play again with 5 special helpers wearing heart stickers. The helpers can go high-five kids who are sitting. The sitting kids are healed and back in the game! Stop game play whenever you choose, as there will be no clear end. *Start the 10-minute timer for the next part of the lesson.

Part 3 (Cool Down Time) Main Goal: Do an activity to help kids understand today s big idea. Supplies: None Video: 10-minute countdown timer Time: 10 minutes DEBRIEF FROM GAME TIME When did you need help in that game? Who helped you when you were hurt/tagged? Have you ever been hurt in real life? When was a time that you were sad or angry? Can Jesus help us when we re hurt, sad or angry? How? What if Jesus were playing this game with you? What would that be like? Will regular people in life ever let us down? Why? Why can we rely on Jesus to NEVER let us down? SUPER POWER CHARADES Let kids take turns acting out their favorite superpower, while the rest of the group tries to guess what it is. Kids might have to come up with a new power, if someone else acts it out first. If you have a very small group, let kids take multiple turns. Or have kids start acting out specific superheroes, like Iron Man or Wonder Woman.

Part 4 (Large Group) Main Goal: Give kids a chance to respond to what they ve heard today, and worship! Supplies: Video: Kids Club Rome / Week 1 Vlog (Find the video at crossroadskidsclub.net/ weekend) All That You Need (https://www.youtube.com/watc h?v=ivvznisz-xs&t=1s) This Little Light (https://www.youtube.com/watc h?v=wil2qgjiaqy) Time: 15 minutes *The 10-second countdown video is to help kids refocus and transition back into Large Group. These timers will become a permanent part of lessons, and include a funny clip at the end! KIDS CLUB ROME Say: Let s all take a second and do a quick stretch. Everyone, find a wall, and put your back against it. (Let kids find a wall to stand against.) Now, with your back still against the wall, pretend like your sitting against the wall! (Let kids respond for about 10 seconds.) Say: Okay, nice job stretching! You can have a seat. Now let s watch a quick countdown video into the next part of large group. Video: 10-second Countdown Video Say: Now, let s settle in an watch the last part of our special Kids Club Rome video. We re gonna hear about Jesus and his followers were part of a real, live place. And even though Rome is full of ancient crumbling ruins now, Jesus lasts FOREVER. Video: Kids Club Rome / Week 1 Vlog (5 minutes) Say: No matter what happens, we can always be sure that Jesus will never let us down. He has the power, strength and might to accomplish anything, and that includes healing us, restoring us and one day, turning this broken world into a new and perfect home. Say: Let s look at today s verse one more time. Let s all read it together! Slide: Romans 10:9 If you declare with your mouth, Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. Say: Right now, let s take a few seconds to be silent, and pray to God on our own. If you ve never told Jesus that you want to follow him, you can tell him that right now! You can thank him for dying for us, and for coming back to life. You can just tell him what you feel about him, or ask him to help you with something you need. (Give kids about 10-20 seconds of silence, then lead into a prayer for the whole group.) WORSHIP AND PRAYER Pray: Lord, we are so glad that you will always be here for us, no matter what. Thank you for showing us that you have more power than anything in the universe, and we can always rely on you. Amen Music Video: All That You Need Music Video: This Little Light

Part 5 (Small Groups) Main Goal: Discuss today s story and how it applies to kids lives through asking questions and doing a hands-on activity. Supplies: Roman Forum template (1/kid) Markers (1 set/group) Time: 10-15 minutes (or until parents pick up) Tip: You can ask the review questions at the beginning of Small Group, or DURING the activity. *Keep kids in small group until parent pickup. RESPOND TO THE STORY What was your favorite part of all of today s stories? What did you notice about Rome in today s videos? What was it like? What do you think it was like thousands of years ago?! Who s someone you feel like you can really depend on? Can we depend on Jesus? How can we depend on Jesus when we need help? (give kids a personal example to help; reading the Bible, praying and asking Jesus for help with something, etc.) Is Jesus powerful? What kinds of powerful things has he done? (Kids may need help coming up with examples from the Bible.) Jesus will never let us down: what s one thing you want to ask Jesus to help you with? MAKE IT PERSONAL Give each kid a Roman Forum template. Set out markers. SAY: Do you remember all those ancient crumbling ruins in Rome from today s video? Those buildings were once strong, but now there s just ruins. But Jesus lasts FOREVER, and that s why we should follow him! On the the template, have kids write or draw a picture of something they want to ask Jesus to help them with this week (based off the discussion you ve just had with your group). Let them color and decorate the Roman ruins, and even add pictures of people, like the characters they heard about in today s Rome video! EXTRA TIME? Give kids maze and word-search activity sheets to work on until their parents pick them up.
