Parish Mission Statement Immaculate Conception Catholic Church celebrates the Eucharist and proclaims the gospel in worship through our love of God and for each other and with our ministry to the marginalized. We journey together in our faith, united by our trust in Christ s love and mercy and the powerful intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Staff Connection... May 14, 2017 Immaculate Conception Church CMA (Catholic Ministries Appeal) Update Many thanks to all of the generous parishioners who have, to date, contributed 84% of the Immaculate Conception CMA Commitment in support of the Diocese. We are grateful for your pledges and contributions on behalf of our parish. Current contributions represent $50,069 towards fulfilling our obligation of $59,694. Without your gifts, our parish would experience further financial strain. Meeting (or not meeting) our full CMA goal has a significant impact on our operations, and therefore, our mission. There is a brief window of opportunity in the coming weeks to help our parish meet the $9,625 shortfall in our CMA obligation and avoid receiving a bill for the shortfall at the end of this month. As you may be aware, our parish does not set the level of our CMA obligation. As mentioned above, Immaculate Conception s requirement for this fiscal year (July 2016 June 2017) is $59,694. The $50,069 received by the diocese to date represents only 247 families. In light of the number of families in our parish, the remaining obligation should be reachable within the remaining time available. Based on historical CMA giving, a shortfall this large was not budgeted and will have an immediate effect on the cash flow and our bottom line. The lower the shortfall, the less the impact on our budget and parish operations. Every dollar contributed to the CMA by parishioners decreases the size of the bill that Immaculate Conception will have to pay in June. This parish obligation must be met by the end of the fiscal year (June 30). It will either be met with parishioner contributions directly to the CMA or with current Church assets. Please prayerfully consider a contribution (or additional contribution) to the CMA on behalf of Immaculate Conception and join our existing givers in easing the financial burden on the parish. If you are uncertain how to make a contribution to the CMA, the parish staff are happy to provide the necessary information. The conference will begin with a Poverty Simulation, in which participants role-play the lives of low-income families. Some are welfare recipients, some are disabled, and some are senior citizens on Social Security. They have the stressful task of providing for basic necessities and shelter on a limited budget during the course of four 15-minute weeks. Although play money is used during the role playing, it is not a game. It is a simulation that enables participants to look at poverty from a variety of angles and then to recognize and discuss the potential for change within their local communities. Discussions and workshops will follow. Reservations required by May 15! $15 registration fee includes lunch. Program begins at 9:30am. Contact Laurie Konwinski at Lkonswinski@dor.org or call 272-5062 ext. 12. Sponsored by Catholic Charities. The Ithaca Council #277 meets every 3 rd Wednesday of the month at 7:00 pm in the Parish Hall at Immaculate conception Church. This council serves all local Parishes in Ithaca, and membership is open to practicing Catholic men age 18 and above. The membership contact is Mike Barry (607-279-6891 or ideasink1@gmail.com). My dear sisters and brothers, By now you have likely heard the very sad news: after much study, analysis and deep prayer, our parish leadership has decided that Immaculate Conception School will close permanently next month at the end of the school year. Bishop Matano and the diocesan Priests Council have reviewed and accepted our decision -- which was based on years of declining enrollment, projections of continued decline this fall and the severe financial strain this has put on the school and our parish. The financial threat is just too great to be allowed to continue. I am aware how painful this decision is for all concerned: not only for our school families especially and Principal Don Mills and the dedicated teachers and staff, but also the many alumni of the school, which provided excellence in education for well more than a century. As sad as this news is, we must remember to thank our good and gracious God for the decades we had this treasure, and we must not only mourn its loss but celebrate all that it meant to us and generations of children. As we always do, we will come together as a community of faith and with God s grace we will support and comfort one another, knowing we did all we could to keep our beloved school open as long as we could. God bless you. This weekend is the final weekend to consider nominating yourself, or someone else for the Parish Pastoral Council. Please prayerfully consider helping fill the seats being vacated by past members. Fill out & return the form below. Nomination Form for Parish Pastoral Council Spiritual leadership is key to vitality of the parish and its ministries. When spiritual leading is lacking in a parish even the best of plans will not come to fruition. This noble leadership role is done best by those who are motivated by the love of Christ and its mission to the world. With this in mind, kindly nominate persons, or yourself who will serve with joy the needs of our parish. Consider gender, age and other existing diversities of the Parish. I nominate to serve a regular three-year term on our Pastoral Council. I nominate to serve a one-year member as a youth member of our Pastoral Council. Please return your nomination by placing it in the collection or delivering it to the Parish Center by Monday, May 15th. PARISH STAFF Fr.
