I answered the door and expected it to be a person, but instead there was an elephant standing there. And then it started to talk to me! I would like to live with you. The elephant said. The elephant just walked right in then. He was inside and I told him he could stay until my parents came home. I promise you that I will stay out of trouble. the elephant pleaded. I really doubted that though. I made the decision that he could stay until my parents came home. I decided to name him George because I know that mom really liked that name and it would make her decision a little easier I hoped. As I was thinking about how to tell my parents Do you have anything to eat? I am really hungry. he interrupted. We only have people food though. I answered. Then go out and get some leaves for me. As long as you are under this roof, you can get your own food. He went out back to eat his supper while I ate mine. Mom and Dad and my brother Dane were at the Friday Night Football Game. Dane was in the marching band and he has to go to every football game to play in the marching band. They would not find out about George

until morning. This was really good because then I had longer to decide what to tell them. Once George was done with his supper, he came in to say he was ready for bed. Then go to bed. I said. I need a bed. he responded. Then go make one. I explained. I could tell that he did not really like this idea very much. It took him forever to get everything that he needed to make his bed. I had to yell at him to get a move on. Where should I make the bed? he asked. You can make it in the guest room right across of my room. I answered. He went upstairs and made his bed. Once he was finally done with that, he went to bed. When he went to bed I went to bed also. Trouble In the middle of the night (also in the middle of my very good dream) a loud BOOM woke me up. I ran downstairs. I looked at the clock and it was only five. I thought that it may have been dad getting ready for work, but he was not even downstairs. I went back

upstairs to see if George was okay. He was sitting on his bed laughing. I fell off my bed. stated George. I was not laughing on the other hand. I looked around the room to see what could possibly make falling off your bed funny. I saw the plant that normally sits on the corner table on the floor with dirt all over the place. You need to clean this up before my parents find out. Or else you will not get to stay here. I said. He began to clean it up. When he was finally done I told him to go back to sleep. I went back to bed, but could not fall asleep. I heard dad upstairs. Then he started to come in my room so I pretended to be asleep. He put something on my desk. When I got up a little later I got the note off my desk and read it. This is what it said - What is an elephant doing under the roof of my house? Love dad P.S. Have a good day at school

Dad must have found my elephant. Darn. Before I left for school I told George to be good and not to get into any trouble or else he would not be able to stay with us anymore. I was waiting for the bus with Dane and Kari (my neighbor) and her brother Austin. We re all the same age. I told them about George. They did not believe me though. You cannot tell anyone though. They did not like that at all. After school they wanted to come over and see George. I told Kari and Austin that I would have to see if mom was home. If mom was not home I was to text Kari (by strict orders) and tell her. When I got home there was a huge mess in the family room. I could tell that it was probably George because there were leaves all over the place. I went to go and talk to George, but he was sleeping. Go figure. I then texted Kari to tell her that mom was not home. mom is not home {then i will come over} if u want to help me clean {?} George made a mess {make him clean it up}

he is asleep {wait until he wakes up} mom could be home any min {then i will come and help} no i dont want u to get in any trouble {good luck! =P} Thanks I got started cleaning up right away. After about five minutes I heard the garage door open. I tried to clean the mess up really quickly, but mom came in too soon. I had to explain that I had a pet elephant. I also told her that dad did not like the idea. She said that she would talk to him. I was so glad. I really hoped that they would let me keep George. Mom told me that she would clean the mess up while I got started on my homework. That night mom talked to dad and they decided that I could keep George as long as I paid half of the cost! I really did not care about the cost because he ate leaves and other things that you could just find outside. No School! I split my room in half with George. I got one half and he got the other half. The next day George was not in

my room when I woke up. I looked everywhere. I finally found him in the attic! The attic of all places! You had better come down here. I said. You will fall right through! He came down really fast, so fast that he almost knocked me over. I started to get ready for school. I started to walk out the door, but mom stopped me. You do not have school today. said mom You re joking mom. No I am not. Really? Yes, really. Okay. Why? A tree fell on the school last night. Really? Yes, really. The House I went to go tell Dane and he did not believe me. I had to tell him that it was true. Then he got really excited. He started to text Austin to make plans. I went to go make plans with Kari u know there is no school

{yes mom just told me} what do u want to do {come see George} okay if u really want to I went outside to see if it was okay with George. He wanted me to make a house for him. I told him that I would because he had been good for the past day. I also told him that it would be cold in the winter. That will be okay. George said. Really? I asked. Yes. I promise. said George. Kari and I started on the house. It was fun. When we were all done I showed George the house. He really liked the house. I did not want Kari to see George right now. Kari was okay with that. Friends See George for the First Time I went to go find Kari and Austin. They came to see George. Dane came too. Kari was so happy to see George finally. She went right up to him and started to talk to him. Austin asked if he could ride George. What do you think? I asked. Okay, I won t ride George. Austin said.

We all went inside to ask mom if she could get pizza for lunch. No, I have a meeting to go to. mom answered. We had sandwiches after mom left. Then we went out back to play. Austin was trying to get George to high-five him. George was trying to sleep though. I told Austin that he might want to try again later. After a while I heard mom s car door so I told them that they might want to go home. Kari and Austin walked home. The House Again The next morning George stood up and burst a hole through the roof of his house. He must have grown since I originally had made it. I had to go and get more wood from the garage. I also had to make the door a little bit bigger so that it would be easier for George to get in and out. I brought it back out back and George got in it right away and had no problem fitting in it. The Cool Pool The next day I asked mom if we had school. She told me that we did not have school today. I asked Dane if he wanted to go to the pool with me. He said that later

he would go with me. I read for a while then. After a little bit I called Kari to ask her if she could come over. She said she would be over in a minute. We made lunch and were going to meet Austin on the trail to the picnic area. Then after lunch Kari and Austin had to go home. I was hoping that you could come to the pool with us. I said. Well we have to go to the doctor for our yearly checkup. Austin answered. That s okay. When we got home I told George that we were going to the pool. Can t I come with you? George asked. If you want to walk next to the car. Yeah, I will walk next to the car. After I had my swim suit on and Dane was ready I went to go get George. When we got to the pool George was ready to get in right away. Then once he put his foot in he jumped right back out because it was so cold. After a while of his sitting next to the pool, he was ready to go home. After we got home we had supper and then played some board games. George had some trouble because his hands were so big. He went out to his house for bed. I went to bed too.

George? You There? The next morning when I woke up there was a present on my bed. It was from George. It was my birthday. I don t know how he found out though. When I opened it there was a little wood carving of an elephant that looked exactly like him. I went out to his house to say thank you, but he was not in his house. I looked all over our house. I still could not find him. I asked Dane, mom, and dad, but none of them had seen him either. I have never seen George since then.
