Fr. Jeremy St. Martin Dear Parishioners at Our Lady of Grace, Old Fr. Morony preached a homily one Sunday when I was about 8 yrs old. He told us about the Trinity and how it was three persons and yet one God. I was struck by the beauty of this for some reason and still count it as one of the greatest moments of my life. Later when I was in high school, we had a great art teacher who taught us how to draw in perspective. It was easy to learn to draw spheres, boxes, cones and pyramids but it was harder to draw this other shape: the tetrahedron. It was all made up of triangles. (A pyramid looks the same, but it has a square on the bottom.) It fascinated me, and it reminded me of the most beautiful Trinity. Indeed, the Church does use the triangle as a symbol for the Trinity. Then in high school, this foursided triangle shape showed up again. It was there in our chemistry book. It was there to show the molecular shape of carbon. It turns out that Star Trek was right, and we are carbon based life forms. All known life is carbon based. It turns out that the molecular structure, (the shape of carbon) because it is a tetrahedron (because it is made of triangles which are very strong and stable like a tripod), makes it the best base for other complex things to attach to. Really at the base of life itself is this shape which is like the Trinity. God is the artist and we can see in his art, himself. We can indeed see in our inmost being his mysterious stamp. To contemplate the Most Blessed Trinity is Heaven. Each of us in our own way relate to the three persons, this one God, and so form, in that relationship, as one and many, that stable beauty of love.
