GROUP TO DISCUSS "THE RED TENT" By ANITA DIAMENT If you think "Who Wants to be a Millionaire?" is the rage this year, then you haven't yet read the new book by Anita Diament, entitled, "The Red Tent." The book, which is based on the life of the biblical character, Dena, has become so popular that bookstores cannot keep it on the shelves. A number of congregants, who have read the book, asked Rabbi Brickman to lead a discussion of the book, which he is willing to do. The discussion group will meet later in the spring, after Passover, so get a copy of the book and start reading it now. It is available in paperback. Watch the "Temple Bulletin" for the date and time of the first meeting of "The Red Tent" discussion group. NEWS FROM MAZON: A Jewish Response to Hunger To: MAZON Partner Synagogues From: Susan Cramer, Executive Director It has been an extraordinarily busy time at MAZON, and there is much good news that we are happy and proud to report. MAZON finished 1999 on budget and ahead by almost $395,000 or 12% in contributions. The number of contributions - an equally important measure of our success - grew to nearly 45,000, an increase of 11 % over the previous year. This growth would not have happened without the support of legions of rabbis, cantors, educators and lay leaders, who consistently promote the value and importance of giving to MAZON. My thanks to all of you for your efforts on our behalf, which made it possible for us to grant an unprecedented $2.6 million in 1999.
