Nashville First Church IYS Workshops SESSION 1 Workshop Options 10:15-11:15 # 1-1N Collaborative and Creative Worship This workshop will look at what it means to have a team concept when building a worship leadership structure that is multi-layered and faceted. It will also examine new technology that allows for worship arts leadership to function effectively and the effect the technology has in recruiting/keeping millennials in the worship loop. Furthermore, it will examine the need for creativity in the worship space and generate conversation on how to cultivate creativity amongst a Worship Arts leadership team and team members. Presenter: Randy Kinder is an ordained deacon in the church of the Nazarene, who serves as the Director of PR Music Groups and Director of New Student Financial Aid at Trevecca Nazarene University. Randy also serves on the Worship Arts Staff at Nashville Grace Church of the Nazarene. He has served in several churches as a Worship, Evangelism, and Administrative pastor over the last 20 years. Randy also serves the Southeast Region by co-directing the Camp Project which creates, produces, and executes the majority (8 of 10) of the Nazarene district youth camps across the southeast region. He is the executive producer and vocal music director of TNT @ TNU. Randy is married to Dr. Kiersten Kinder and has a 5-year old, Samuel. # 1-2N Church and School Partnerships For ten years the Waverly Church has partnered with a local elementary school. Focusing on the school as a primary mission field, this partnership has had a tremendous impact on the school, the church, and the community as a whole. Learn the philosophy of partnership. Presenter: Mary Forester is a wife and mother of five, a public school teacher with 10 years of experience, and Pastor to Children and Families at Waverly Church of the Nazarene. # 1-3N The Lost Art of Spiritual Relationship Building This session will provide discussion of the need to be intentional in the risks we take for the sake of building spiritually focused relationships. The point of this approach is to allow the transforming life of Christ to be further embodied in the world - through us and those the Lord is seeking to reach through us. Presenter: Josh Wallace is the pastor of the Lawrenceburg Grace Church of the Nazarene where he and his family have served for the past four of their twelve ministerial years. He was born and raised at Nashville First Church of the Nazarene and is twice a graduate of Trevecca Nazarene University. He and his wife Wendy have two great sons - Josiah (7), and Tobias (2).

# 1-4N Hispanic Ministries: Vision, Challenge, and Method (via virtual boardroom, DMRC) This seminar provides a short introduction to the primary components for understanding and initiating Hispanic Ministries. Eduardo Lelli will present a road map for launching a Hispanic ministry in your church. You ll receive ideas, testimonies, tools, and the key elements for success. This workshop will be broadcast via the virtual boardroom. Transportation will be made available from NFCN to the DMRC. Presenter: Dr. Eduardo Lelli is an elder in the Church of the Nazarene. He joined the MidSouth District in 2016 as Hispanic Coordinator and served until January 2017 as senior pastor at the Madison Hispanic church. Eduardo is a Licensed Addiction Counselor with the Master Addiction Counselor (MAC) credential from the National Association of Addiction Counselors (NAADAC). He resides in Nashville with his wife and their four children and eight grandchildren. # 1-5N How to Work with Prime Timers in Your Church The adults fifty-five years and older are a valuable group of people and a resource in your church. This session will offer suggestions on ways to work with them and inspire them. Presenter: Jack Carpenter answered a call to ministry in 1976, attending Nazarene Bible College and Mount Vernon Nazarene College. Ordained in 1986, Jack served as a pastor for 30 years in Iowa, South Carolina, and Ohio. He currently serves as Senior Adult Pastor at Goodlettsville Nazarene. Jack and his wife Glenna have two children and two grandchildren. His favorite scripture is Isaiah 50:7 - Because the Sovereign Lord helps me, I will not be disgraced. Therefore, have I set my face like flint, and I know I will not be put to shame. # 1-6N Restore Survivors, Stop Oppression Rest Stop Ministries provides holistic, trauma-informed, survivor-centered restorative care to female sex trafficking survivors in a supportive long-term residential community of unconditional love and unwavering hope. Love heals. Hope heals. Jesus called this ministry into being; it is at the bullseye of His heart. This work belongs to the Church. It is Kingdom business. Learn about this horrific crime, the devastated victims, and the restorative process of healing to wholeness where Survivors become Thrivers in Jesus Name! Presenter: Dr. Rondy Smith, Founder and CEO of Rest Stop Ministries, is an ordained elder in the Church of the Nazarene. Rondy served the Hermitage congregation for 14 years as Community Life Pastor until God moved her ministry to Rest Stop. Before her call to preach, Rondy taught at Trevecca Nazarene University for 12 years.

# 1-7N Understanding Grief and Loss for Children and Families (livestream from NFCN) Dialog to help develop and understanding of grief and loss, as well as strategies and practices for ministering to children and families in the midst of grief. This workshop will be shared via livestream from NFCN to the Memphis and Hattiesburg sites. Presenter: Steven Sellars LPC-MHSP, NCC. Steven has served as a volunteer firefighter and chaplain for the Ashland City Fire and Pleasant View Fire Departments and has provided crisis intervention for local emergency services in Middle Tennessee for the past 17 years. He is a supervisor for the Centerstone School-Based Program that provides contracted professional mental health therapists in the Cheatham County school system. He also operates a private counseling practice: Signs of Life Counseling PLLC in Pleasant View, TN. Steven serves as the MidSouth District Chaplaincy Director. He and his wife, Diane, and their kids, Petra and Zander, live in Pleasant View. They are members of Clarksville First Church of the Nazarene. # 1-8N Involving Students in the Life of the Church (NYI) Student ministry can feel disconnected from the rest of church life. There are some reasons for this and we hope to offer some simple solutions for you, as a youth leader, to bridge this gap. Our discussion will center around church life, student ministry life, and where the two can happily meet. Presenter: Jacobi Campbell serves as pastor at Bell Road Church of the Nazarene. SESSION 2 Workshop Options 11:30-12:30 # 2-1N The Power of Intimacy in Discipleship (via virtual boardroom, DMRC) Making disciples needs to be intensely personal, especially in small groups. Learn to apply the characteristics and commitments that grow people into Jesus. This workshop will be broadcast via the virtual boardroom. Transportation will be made available from NFCN to the DMRC. Presenter: Phil Lindsley is a graduate of Nazarene Theological Seminary. He has served 35 years in youth ministry and pastoral ministry, serving in rural, suburban, and urban settings. # 2-2N Creative Spiritual Formation Everyone has a creative side. Learn how you can incorporate creativity into your daily spiritual formation practices by using fun and easy concepts that will be shared in this session. Presenter: Lori Tharp is the Pastor to Children and their Families at Nashville Grace Church of the Nazarene. She received her call to ministry in 2013 and has nearly

completed the ministry preparation program. She enjoys art, singing, playing instruments, reading, and using her creative gifts and talents to serve the Lord. Lori and her husband have three children and live in Nashville. # 2-3N The Changing Face of Marriage and the Church Due to the popularity of cohabitation, we have lost marriage to the lower class and are losing it to the middle class. It is predicted that within the next couple of decades, marriage will be mostly confined to the college educated. How will the church deal with this trend and with couples new to the church who are unmarried but living together. How does a marriage-friendly church operate to support the marriages within its walls? Presenter: Jan Harvey LMFT, is a licensed Marital and Family Therapist who specializes in couples therapy. She has a private practice in Brentwood, TN, where she works with couples in distress, premarital counseling, and individuals issues. She is a national trainer for counseling professionals in the PREPARE premarital assessment; the Taylor- Johnson Temperament Analysis, and IMAGE. She is a clinical fellow of the American Association of Marriage & Family Therapy, the Tennessee Association of Marriage and Family Therapy, American Association of Christian Counselors, International Centre for Excellence in Emotionally Focused Therapy and a board member of the Nashville Area Association of Christian Counselors. Jan has been a contributing author in four books: Making a Marriage, and My Faith Still Holds, Beacon Hill Press; Love Decisions, Thomas Nelson Publishers, and The Complete Book of Marriage, Fleming H. Revell Publishers. # 2-4N Women Sharing Hope Learn how you can make a difference in the lives of women by sharing salvation, healing, encouragement, and friendship. Let them know that Jesus is the Hope. Presenter: Ruth Chandler and the District Women s Council Ruth has served as Director of District Women s Ministry for the past nine years. Her passion is helping people find Jesus. # 2-5N Quick Start Guide to Nazarene Missions International (NMI) Looking for fresh ideas for your local NMI? Or wondering how to get NMI off the ground in your congregation? The Quick Start guide will give you tools to focus your efforts for greatest impact locally and globally. Presenters: Barbara Fox and Charlotte Moore - Barbara Fox is the NMI Nashville North Mission Area Coordinator. She enjoys meeting new brothers and sisters in Christ and has participated in numerous mission trips. She and her husband Larry have been married for 49 years and have three children and a couple of granddaughters. Charlotte Moore is Associate Pastor of local and Global Missions at Grace Church of the Nazarene in Clarksville, TN. She also serves as the NMI Clarksville Mission Area Coordinator.

# 2-6N How the American Church Can Impact Hispanic Ministry in the MidSouth District This session will address how to prepare the local church for the development of an Hispanic ministry in the local church. Discussion will include ideas and things that should be in place to welcome the Hispanic community to be part of your community. This presentation is complementary with the session 1 workshop: Hispanic Ministries: Vision, Challenge, and Method. Presenter: Rev. Gerardo Arteaga serves as pastor of Madison Hispanic Church of the Nazarene. # 2-7N Parenting by One This session will share ideas that for ministering to single parents. Discussion will include strategies to help meet practical needs of single parents, as well as ways to provide encouragement. Learn how your local church can share resources and time to minister to these families. Presenter: Mary Beth Riggins grew up in a minister's family in Nashville. She saw firsthand how caring and compassion can make a difference in the lives of others. Her favorite verse in Galatians 6:10. She holds an M.Ed. Degree in Administration from Trevecca Nazarene University. Since retiring from a career in education, she enjoys life on a small farm in Dickson, TN. Her hobbies include collecting antiques, entertaining friends, and day trips to small towns. # 2-8N Discipling and Developing Core Student Leaders (NYI) Engage in discussion for strategies to disciple and develop leadership among the students of your local youth ministry. Presenter: Hunter Hickman serves as youth pastor at Clarksville Grace Church of the Nazarene. Prior to this he was youth pastor at Wayside Church of the Nazarene (CA) for one and a half years. He has received a BA and MA in pastoral ministry from Mount Vernon Nazarene University. SESSION 3 Connect 1:30-2:15 Connect is a new endeavor that will take place during the third breakout session. This 45-minute session will be facilitator led and interactive. Connect will provide opportunity to Connect with district resources as you learn what is available through on-line and social media sources, as well as district ministry events. Connect with fellow disciples in your ministry area as you engage in small group discussion led by prompts provided by the facilitator. One of the aims of this interaction is for you to have opportunity to develop at least one idea or strategy you can implement in your local ministry based on learning or insights received during your morning workshop sessions. Connect with God through a time devoted to shared prayer in these same small groups. Connect will be offered with ministry area emphases. When you indicate your breakout session choices on your registration form, select the Connect ministry area which best suits where you serve: NMI, NYI, Kid Min, Adult Min, Pastor, or SDMI.
