THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK Should we look for another? At our clergy conferences on Dec. 1-2, Bishop Peter stated that New Hampshire was the least religious State in the nation. I was so embarrassed! Here I have been preaching and celebrating sacraments for 45 years just to help us reach rock bottom! I have been asking myself: What could I have done better? What did I fail to do? What opportunities to witness my faith did I miss? After one of last weekend s masses, a parishioner stated: I m not surprised! Where are the kids? And that s a fair question. Where are they? We don t have a youth program in the parish, though we tried to start one four times in the past ten years. We don t follow up with our young adults once they are confirmed. We don t follow up with new parents once their infants are baptized. We have just barely started looking for active parishioners we no longer see in church. Our church is quickly becoming a place where we pray and celebrate sacraments while it should be a gathering of people who help each other live their faith and share it. When you take the focus off of people and place it on activities, programs and property, you naturally lose the people. If John the Baptist (or Jesus) were to ask me: Are you the one who is to come or should we look for another?, I would not know how to answer. How about you? Ever wonder why you were baptized and raised in a Catholic family? Sure, God wants you to embrace the faith and allow it to sanctify and transform your life. But that s only half the job! He wants you to get your kids back to church, get your grandchildren baptized, get your non-practicing friends and neighbors back to prayer and use your voice and your vote to get our nation back under God. God knows it won t be easy! But if the faith is not important to those God has placed on our path, could it be because it s not important enough to us? Our words and actions will probably put someone on the spot (even us). But if we don t act and speak, God might put us on the spot. And I wouldn t blame Him. I wouldn t want God to feel He has to look for someone else... Please refer to the insert in the bulletin this week You will find the schedule for Christmas and New Year s Masses and Christmas Confessions. Please note that there are no confessions scheduled on Friday/Saturday December 23/24. LAST WEEK Our Parish Family Christmas trees are a big hit. Many families have already claimed their spot on one of the trees. How about you? It s easy to do and just takes a couple minutes (before or after Mass). In church, you will find a label with your name on it. You simply take the label for your family, choose one of the four angel designs, put the label on the angel and then have your family hang the ornament on the tree. THERE IS NO COST ANGELS ARE ALL PAID FOR! We made an attempt to ensure that we have all the families in the parish listing each person who lives in the household. We are not perfect and we apologize if we have missed someone. Please put the name(s) on an angel and then please let us know so that we can correct our records.
