TUESDAY, January 8, 2019 OUR NEXT COUNCIL AND LADIES AUXILIARY MEETING, ROSARY 7:15 P.M., MEETING 7:30 P.M. "A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for a time of adversity." - Proverbs 17:17 (NIV) Brothers, this verse speaks to many of you who served abroad and within our borders. This also speaks to those who experienced hardships with others. I will not sugarcoat your trials but I will thank you for service. I'm writing this article from the Philippines. It reminds me to be humble due to where my family came from. We aren't living in the streets or shacks, but people who are, are literally outside the door. I want to reach down and help the child who is sleeping on the steps outside a convenience store, or the grandmother begging for change at the intersection who is also carrying for her grandchild, but I also realize that my family is just a little better off but is still considered poor. It pains me when a little boy taps me on the stomach and asks for food with pleading eyes, just to get turned away by my cousin who sees this every day. This is an eye opener and a reminder that there are people all over the world who'll eat your scraps. Be humble, be kind, and be mindful. Enough of the sad truth of the world. This is my vacation and long awaited honeymoon. We visited my grandparents' graves and where they grew up. I saw family that I haven't seen in over a decade and went to a resort that had white sands and clear waters for over five hundred feet away. My family and I went scuba diving to look at the local coral reef, but I found out that i am claustrophobic. We are having a blast with family and seeing things that I understand now that I didn't before. I can't wait to come back, given that it is within ten years. Brothers, thank you all for your hard work this past year and I hope for your continued support for the upcoming year. We will not have an officer's meeting in January, but we will have our General Meeting on the 8th. I don't think we have any events in January planned so far, but do look forward to our annual Lenten Shrimp Dinners. We will also be running a membership drive in the Spring. Stay tuned for more events that I missed, in the reminder of the newsletter. In closing, Brothers, may the LORD protect you and guide you in this journey which is life. Regards, Joseph Orquiola Baleta, Grand Knight

Be Active Greg Bittner, Council 4387 Financial Secretary The Arch-bishop O Hara Council of the Knights of Columbus traded in their swords and full regalia for elves uniforms on Tuesday, December 11 th to help kick off the holiday season celebrations. The R & R Club invited the wives and widows to a special holiday luncheon to show their appreciation for their current and past charitable contributions to the Knights and our community. A veritable banquet was organized and prepared by Craig Lay (lead kitchen elf). The attendees feasted on beef, corn, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, salad, bread rolls and dessert. At the end of the meal, each wife and widow were presented with a rose by R & R President Bill Aguirre as another small token of appreciation for all the support these wonderful ladies have provided over the years. The event was a complete success; everyone enjoyed a hearty meal, great conversation and fellowship, as well as a celebration of the season. As part of the event a 50/50 raffle was held. Two winning tickets were drawn to share the prize money. One of the winners, Mary Liston, in keeping with the spirit of the season, gave her share of the winnings to R & R President Bill Aguirre with instructions to donate the funds to charity. Thank you, Mary, for such a kind and generous act that will surely be a blessing to others.
