Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, Hainesport, New Jersey Page 3-565 Message from the Padre The is called Gaudete Sunday which is the plural form of the Latin word Gaudere, which means (to rejoice). It is a command taken directly from Paul s First Letter to the Thessalonians which is to Rejoice always. Yes, to rejoice is not a conditional command that we keep only when things are going well, but it is a positive command, one that we are supposed to keep always and at all times. Just as the word of God commands us to believe and to love, so does it command us to rejoice always. But among the most neglected of all our Christian obligations is the obligation to rejoice. To be joyful seems like a very rare commodity these days. Many people would describe their lives as anything but joyful. That is why on this, the Church is reminding us of this often forgotten obligation by giving us a break amidst this season of preparation, penance and prayer. So where does true joy come from the joy that does not fade away with the normal ups and downs of daily life? M y dear friends, we are all familiar with the Christmas Carol Joy to the World, but sometimes too much familiarity with a song loses its essence and meaning. So what is that Joy to the World? That Joy is not complete without the line that followed The Lord has come. Yes, the Lord has come but for now in this Third Week of Advent, we are in the midst of joyful anticipation for the coming of our Lord. Saint Paul tells us, "The Lord is near, who is the true source of our joy. The Lord is near, not because of anything we have done or not done, but because God has chosen to come to us by sending his Only Begotten Son to share and to redeem us and to set us free from the powers of sin and death. Our joy in life then rests upon the paschal mystery of Christ s life, death and resurrection. My dear parishioners, let us be witnesses of this longing for joy. In a world that faces so many struggles, we need to make others know that true joy exists in Christ. So on this Third Week of Advent, let us show our true Joy not only by singing Joy to the World, but also by showing others the redeeming joy and love of the Son for all of us. Page 4-565 Zephaniah 3: 14-18a, Isaiah 12 Luke 3: 10-18 John the Baptist challenges the crowds in today s Gospel. Eager to follow him, they ask what they should do. John responds with practical guidance: share your food and clothing, act honorably, be honest. We are not told what they do, but we are told they were filled with expectation. As we listen to God s word, filled with expectation with a week and a half until Christmas, let us take John s guidance to heart. Prayer for Lighting The Third Advent Candle Holy and Gracious God, we give you thanks for the promise of Joy. As we anticipate and prepare for Joy being born in the world, may we be evermindful of all the places in our lives, and those of others, where there seems to be little Joy and thus, may its presence be especially felt. Joyful, Joyful we adore Thee today and evermore. Amen. To make arrangements for visitation by a member of the Homebound Ministry, please call Deacon Leo at the Parish Office at 609267-0230 ext. 19. The Parishioners of Our Lady Queen of Peace Welcomes.. Anointing of the Sick In the Church s Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick, through the ministry of the priest, it is Jesus who touches the sick to heal them from sin - and sometimes even from physical ailment. His cures were signs of the arrival of the Kingdom of God. The core message of his healing tells us of his plan to conquer sin and death by his dying and rising. The Rite of Anointing tells us there is no need to wait until a person is at the point of death to receive the Sacrament. A careful judgment about the serious nature of the illness is sufficient. Even if there is no physical healing, the primary effect of the Sacrament is a spiritual healing by which the sick person receives the Holy Spirit s gift of peace and courage to deal with the difficulties that accompany serious illness or the frailty of old age. Have you received all your Sacraments? For more information please contact Deacon Leo at 609-267-0230 ext. 19. Hailey Rose Higgins (Baptized December 2, 2018) PLEASE HELP OUR RETIRED RELIGIOUS Religious give thanks. A religious sister writes, When we see the generous response of so many thousands of persons in order to help us, religious men and women, we are left speechless. Senior sisters, brothers, and religious order priests across the country send heartfelt thanks and prayers for your donation to last week s Retirement Fund for Religious Collection.
