Fourth Sunday in Lent Pastor s Corner: What would you do if you were given an extra 60 minutes to use? I know I can think of many things I could do! There just is never enough time in the day, and then we lose an hour this weekend. If you haven t guessed, I am not a fan of Daylight Savings Time. And I have been enjoying it being lighter earlier which will be lost again for a month. But, because there is nothing I can do about it, complaining is pointless. So I am trying to use this loss of an hour as a good reflection on time, as I know I have wasted many hours in the course of a week or even day. It is more than just good time management; it is an awareness and appreciation of the gift of each moment. We are now in the 4 th week of Lent and making the turn toward the end of the Lenten Season. Hopefully this Lenten time has not been wasted time. Regardless, of how you used this time to draw closer to God through prayer, fasting and works of charity, there is still time left. I encourage you to use these final weeks of Lent in a way that develops your relationship with God and with one another. God has blessed us abundantly and through our Lenten practices we come in touch with these blessings. Make plans for Holy Week as it also is quickly approaching. It is in the sacred liturgies of Holy Week that we celebrate the great blessings of our faith. These are the most sacred liturgies of the entire year. Plan to participate in these liturgies that recall the events of our salvation. These are the events that our faith is founded on and the events that give meaning and hope to our lives. Don t waste the time that has been given this Holy Week. Plan to be touched by God and to give thanks for these amazing blessings. And speaking of time, Sr. Kathleen Knechtges is celebrating a significant birthday on March 19 th. Sister retired from pastoral ministry here in the parish a year ago and has been ministering to the sisters at the Notre Dame Mother House. I cannot say how old Sister is but I can say it ends in a zero. Birthday wishes can be sent to: Sr. Kathleen Knechtges 13000 Auburn Rd. Prayer cards/bookmarks: These bookmarks list those candidates preparing for 1 st Communion, Confirmation and those in preparation to be received into the Church at the Easter Vigil. Please keep these candidates for the initiation sacraments in your prayers during the season of Lent. Finding Hope These daily reflection booklets will be available at the doors of the church along with booklets for families and for children. These contain a Scripture passage and reflection for each day of Lent. Operation Rice Bowl: RICE BOWLS have a rich tradition during the Lenten Season and this year there are even more resources available to use as a part of our response to prayer, fasting and almsgiving. Bishop Perez in a letter to the parishes writes: CRS Rice Bowl provides resources to bring Lenten spirituality to life for families, parish and school communities, while continuing to connect Catholics in our diocese with our brothers and sisters in need around the world. Rice Bowl packets are available in the Gathering Area and can be returned on Palm Sunday. Visit crsricebowl.org for resources to use with your Rice Bowl.
