Pastor s Corner This Wednesday is Ash Wednesday and marks the beginning of our annual Lenten journey. The season of Lent is a time to focus on repentance and the forgiveness of our sins as well as discipline in our spiritual life. This draws us closer to Jesus and deepens our relationship with Him. We amend our lives by focusing on three things: Prayer, Almsgiving and Fasting. As your pastor, it is part of my mission to provide you with the tools you need to be disposed to receive the gift of God s Grace. During Lent, we will have many activities to help foster a good prayer life. In its totality, prayer is simply our relationship with God. In this bulletin and future bulletins, you ll find opportunities for prayer and fellowship. For families, some of these activities are perfect for a Lenten family activity, such as the Stations of the Cross on Fridays followed by the Knights of Columbus Fish Fry in the Parish Life Center. Also, our St. Joseph s Altar will be held on March 17th, and the Passover Meal will be during Holy Week. For women, there is a Women s Morning of Reflection on March 12th in the Parish Life Center, and for men, That Man is You meets every Saturday at 6 a.m. in the Parish Life Center. The Men s ACTS Retreat will take place from March 28-31, and a retreat is always a good Lenten activity. Other activities are more individual, such as Come, Lord Jesus!, Bible Studies, signing up for a Holy Hour of Adoration and Rosary Groups. It is up to you to examine your life and what is needed to strengthen your prayer life. Our annual Lenten Mission will be introduced the weekend of March 16-17 and will take place the evenings of March 18-20 6:30 p.m. It will be presented by John Pridmore. I hope you mark your calendar and make plans to attend. Of course, attending daily Mass more often and the reception of the Sacraments of the Holy Eucharist and Confession are great ways to strengthen our faith and draw closer to God. The Mass schedule for Ash Wednesday is on the cover of this bulletin. A service for the distribution of ashes will also be held in the SPES gym for those with limited time. The weekday daily Mass schedule during Lent is Monday Friday at 6:00 a.m. and 12:05 p.m., and 1st Saturday at 7:30 a.m. The schedule for the Easter Triduum is Holy Thursday Mass of the Lord s Supper at 6 p.m.; Good Friday Service at 5 p.m.; and the Easter Vigil at 8 p.m. Easter Sunday Masses are at 7 a.m., 9 a.m. (both in the Church and Leonpacher Hall), 11 a.m., and 5 p.m. We hope that these activities help all of us grow closer to Jesus during the season of Lent so that we can celebrate the joy of Easter more deeply. Please join us for these activities during the Lenten Season. Fish Fry& Sunday Breakfast LENTEN FISH FRY DINNERS $8 Fridays during Lent 5:00 PM 7:00 PM To-go box will include fresh fried catfish fillets, coleslaw, and potato salad.
