In the aftermath of a particularly acrimonious political campaign season, the Faith and Public Policy Committee has invited the Chaplin of the US House of Representatives to address the prospects faith guiding public policy discussion, debate, and formulation in the near future. Our invited guest is Fr. Patrick J. Conroy, S.J., the first Jesuit priest to hold the position. Fr. Conroy was sworn in May 25, 2011. He received a Bachelor's Degree from Claremont Men's College in Claremont, California in 1972. In 1977, he received a Master's degree in philosophy 8

from Gonzaga University in Spokane, Washington; in 1979, a law degree from St. Louis University; in 1983, a Masters of Divinity (M. Div.) from the Jesuit School of Theology of Santa Clara University, in Santa Clara, California; and in 1984, a Masters of Sacred Theology (S.T.M.) from Regis College of the University of Toronto. Fr. Conroy says that he intended to become a lawyer and then go into politics, aiming for the United States Senate, but during his first year of law school "had a very dramatic sense of God's call to join the Jesuits. See chaplain.in.house.gov and Wikipedia for further information on the Chaplaincy and on Fr. Conroy. Invite friends and neighbors. A light breakfast will be available. SINGLE SENIORS LUNCH - LPC Single Seniors are invited to the next fellowship gathering which will take place Friday, February 10, in the Chapel beginning at 11:30 am. Please bring $5 to cover a simple lunch. Come and enjoy getting to know others better. Michael Werner will share his life story. For further information and to RSVP, contact Lois Dokken (manpadokken@aol.com / 703 789-0617) or Wendy Maiwurm (wmaiwurm@cox.net / 703 759-6705). 1 st Sunday of the Month Collections SHARE MONTHLY FOOD CONTRIBUTIONS - Remember to bring your canned and dry food donations to the Narthex NEXT Sunday, February 5. We deliver the contributions to SHARE. SHARE serves people in our area, and there is a great need for non-perishable foods. Please no open or out-of-date products. SOUPER BOWL OF CARING - This year our youth join thousands of other youth in churches across the county in celebrating the 27 th year of the Souper Bowl of Caring. Twenty seven years ago a Presbyterian Church in South Carolina decided to make Super Bowl Sunday about serving others and addressing the need of hunger. Since that first year, the Souper Bowl of Caring has spread across the country and is even supported by many NFL teams. Over the course of these past 27 years, over $100 million dollars has been raised to combat hunger in our own communities. Following worship Sunday, February 5, the youth will receive contributions for SHARE in the Narthex as you leave the Sanctuary. Join them in filling soup pots with money that will be donated to SHARE. TAIZÉ CONTEMPLATIVE WORSHIP Next Sunday, February 5, at 7:00pm in the Chapel - We will worship with prayers, singing and silence. An excellent way to begin the week. BLOOD DRIVE, SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 5 - The next church blood drive is Sunday, February 5. Please consider giving blood as there is no substitute for blood. It can only come from one place and that's a volunteer blood donor. A growing population is creating an increased 9

demand for blood and blood products in our community. Because the need for blood is so great, a consistent inventory is vital. Therefore, it is essential we have a steady stream of volunteer blood donors. Sign up on the church web site or in St. Andrews Hall before and after the church services TODAY. For questions contact the LPC Blood Drive Team, Betty Yurkewitch and Roy Siple. MCLEAN INTERFAITH COALITION - The next workday for the McLean Interfaith Coalition (MIC) with Habitat for Humanity of Northern Virginia will be Friday, February 10, from 8:45 to 3:30. The work site is in Reston where we will be rehabbing an existing home. Volunteers supply their own lunch and Habitat supplies water and tools. If you re interested in joining volunteers from other McLean congregations on January 10, contact Mary Frase, the Lewinsville representative to MIC, at maryjfrase@gmail.com or (703) 536-4091. ANNUAL MEETING - On Sunday, February 12, 9:45am, the congregation of Lewinsville Church will gather for its annual meeting for consideration of pastoral terms of call, presentation of the church budget for 2017, presentation of the annual report, voting on church officers, and any other items that belong before the congregation. Mark your calendars for this important gathering in the life of our congregation. While adults are meeting in fellowship Hall for the Annual Meeting, children from age 4 through middle school will gather in the Chapel for Minute 2 Win It Bible Review games. WOULD YOU LIKE TO SERVE COMMUNION AT LEWINSVILLE? - The Session has opened up this opportunity to anyone who is a member of Lewinsville. Training is required, and we will be offering two such sessions after the 11:00 am service of worship on SUNDAY, February 19 or SUNDAY, March 5. Training will include instructions for serving by intinction and serving the congregation seated in the pews. A training session will also be useful to ordained Elders and Deacons at Lewinsville who need a quick refresher! Sign up on the web page, www.lewinsville.org, or call the church office at 703-356-7200 to get on the list. Need more information? Email Bettie McElroy at bettie@mcelroyassoc.com FLOWER VASES NEEDED - If you have any vases big enough for a small bunch of flowers to be taken to shut ins after Sunday service, please drop off in the Flower Room. Our supply is very low, and we want to continue this important ministry. Call Verna Chenault (703 847-0629) or email vernacwhite@cox.net if you have vases from past deliveries that could be picked up. PRAYER SQUARES - small enough to fit inside your pocket, purse or backpack, may be found on the table in the narthex, and are intended for anyone who would benefit from having a small and easily felt reminder of the love and care of God. Please take one or more - for yourself, family and friends. 10
