Dear Parents & Friends of Kuyper, I am an avid Ebayer and have also been known to start obscure collections of things. About a year ago, one of my daughters was doing a clean-out and produced a bag of items from her bedroom for the Garage Sale box. What immediately caught my eye was a collection of Toy Story characters; Buzz Lightyear, Woody, Jessie and Bullseye. Being a Toy Story fan, I knew that it was just wrong to dispose of these well-loved toys in such a manner! I decided to look on Ebay to find out what Buzz Lightyear, in reasonable condition, was worth. I was shocked to discover that such an amazing toy was only fetching around $10. But I made an even more amazing discovery! There are different types of Buzz Lightyears. Some have a power punch. Some carry a rocket launcher. Some light up. And some have super dooper fancy wings. So my next collection was begun. Over the next few months my collection slowly grew... It struck me that I had always loved Buzz Lightyear, but I assumed that there was only one type of Buzz Lightyear. I had never considered the great variety of Buzz Lightyears out there. Sometimes as teachers and parents it is also easy to look at our class or our kids and miss the worth and uniqueness of each individual. The Bible says in Psalm 139 For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. God carefully created us and loves every single one of us. He values our uniqueness and wants a relationship with every one of us. Our Kuyper vision statement reminds us that as teachers and parents, it is only when we also recognise the worth and uniqueness of each individual that we are able to provide an environment that seeks to develop the whole child, so that each may grow in their relationship with God. Summer is a very bright and bubbly student at Kuyper who enjoys many sports outside of school including Little Athletics, Swimming and Physie. Little Athletics: This year Summer is participating in Little Athletics at McMahons Park in Kurrajong, every Friday afternoon after school. At Little Athletics she learns Shot put, Long jump, Vortex and Discus. She also competes in 50m, 70m, 100m, 200m, and 500m track events. Summer's favourite event is Long jump. Summer competes with other kids in her Little Athletics club, at local carnivals and with other clubs in the Zone. She has recently come first in the 100m and 200m races, long jump and shot put. Swimming: Summer also participates in squad swimming at the Windsor Oasis Swimming Pool, after school on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday each week. She swims for Swim West Swim Club and practices her strokes including Butterfly, Backstroke, Freestyle and Breaststroke. Her brilliant attitude towards swimming has led to Summer qualifying for the upcoming Zone Swimming carnival. This year Summer has qualified for every single race in her age group at Zone. The Zone Swimming Carnival is on Monday 26 February and we know that Summer will do her very best in all her races. Physie: Summer also dances for Nepean Physical Culture Club with her younger sister Myah. At 'physie' Summer learns many steps and routines and enjoys engaging in the activities. At physie, girls are taught to stand tall, be strong team players, achieve their goals and focus on developing confidence and good self esteem. Out of all three sports that Summer participates in, physie is her favourite. This year Summer Allen has been an excellent sports person in every area that she participates in. Well done Summer!
