The Worship of God Chapel December 16, 2018 8:30 am Opening Voluntary Let All Mortal Flesh Keep Silence... Albert L. Travis Welcome Call to Worship Because of You, Righteous God, we begin our journey to Bethlehem, trusting that You will lead us down the paths of faithfulness. For You, Child Jesus, we wait, on this day of anticipation and hope, in the days of doubt and worry. With You, Spirit of Advent, we serve, those for whom this season is not one of joy; those whose lives are empty of family and friends, all who seek wholeness, healing, and salvation. Opening Prayer The Lord be with you. And also with you. Let us pray. Holy God, because of you, the fulfiller of promises, we come to know the way to Bethlehem, where justice is born to a shunned family, where the riches of your love are born into poverty. Forgive us when we fail to see the signs around us, forget to offer compassion to the suffering, or fail to trust your leading during this season of hopeful expectation. May your mercy be born in us anew, that living mercy who came down one night so long ago, Jesus, the Advent of our redemption. Amen. Welcome! Thank you for worshiping with us this morning! Please take a moment to sign the attendance notebooks during the announcements. If this is your first time, please leave your contact information and a pastor will contact you this week with more information about our church. Also, help yourself to a blue Wesley Memorial tote bag as our gift to you. Inside you will find information about our church. Offertory Jesus, Jesus Rest Your Head... arr. John Jacob Niles Andrea Tulipana, soprano Refrain: Jesus, Jesus, rest your head, you have got a manger bed. All the evil folk on earth sleep in feathers at their birth. Jesus, Jesus rest your head, you have got a manger bed. Have you heard about our Jesus? Have you heard about his fate? How his mother went to that stable on that Christmas Eve so late? Winds were blowing, cows were lowing, stars were glowing. Refrain. To that manger came then wise men, bringing things from hin and yon, for the mother and the father and the blessed little Son. Milkmaids left their fields and flocks and sat beside the ass and ox. Refrain. doxology No. 95 Praise God, from Whom All Blessings Flow...old 100th Praise God, from whom all blessings flow; praise him all creatures here below; praise him above, ye heavenly host, praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.
