June 10, 2018 Tenth Sunday in Ordinary Time Page Two What the Bible tells us, line after line and book after book, is that God loves us. He listens to us and he accepts our love and sacrifices. God s response is not one of just answering a prayer, but rather giving himself to us, in word and sacrament, so that he abides with us always. God himself is the answer to our prayers. The reason we pray is not to get an answer, but to be closer to God, aware of his presence and love. With confidence, we believe that God has a purpose and mission for each of us, but he guides us daily as we seek to please him in all that we do. He knows our needs before we voice them and in love, he responds. Our prayer helps us be open to God, to follow him and love him wherever that may lead. There are those times in our spiritual life when we are dry, and it does feel like our prayers are stuck on the ceiling. In those moments we learn our dependence on God for life and grace. We feel in our souls how much we need God to make sense of things and to guide us on our way to heaven. We ask, we seek and we knock. In this time and way, God responds, not just with the simple answer to prayers, but with the care of a loving Father. We are given so much more than we ask. A very special thank you to all of our St. Henry Parishioners who answered God s call to feed the hungry and did so on Saturday, June 2nd at the Bayonne Soup Kitchen. There are too many names to mention, however, you know who you are! A special shout out to the youth of our parish who also helped. We also want to thank the weekly volunteers at the Soup Kitchen who are not parishioners of St. Henry Parish and are faithful to God s call regardless of which group is assigned soup kitchen responsibilities. We thank you all for your guidance and support. God bless all for answering God s call. Please keep all those in need who enter the Bayonne Soup Kitchen in your prayers. Year in Review (continued) We held approximately 6 Parish Family Times which included the Fun Bus, a magician, Actors Garage (children made commercial videos) Brunch With Santa, Happy Birthday Jesus Party, Easter Egg Hunt, 2 Children s BINGO s, Photo Booth Fun Our monthly Flea Markets took place on the 3rd Saturday of each month, except for Holy Saturday this year. Monies collected from the rental of tables were deposited into our St. Henry Youth Account to pay for the various Parish Family Time events, pizza parties and Religious Education supplies. All Religious Education children walked the Stations of the Cross in Church during Lent. Children volunteered to read each station from the pulpit while the other children walked and responded. Two First Communion retreats were held in order to re-enact the Last Supper. The children made bread and chalices and colored drawings of the Last Supper, and had a better understanding of the meaning of the Last Supper. These two retreats were so successful that we brought the re-enactment of the Last Supper to all of the Religion classes with the help of the Catechists during Lent. (to be continued in the bulletin of June 17th)

Our Summer Music We are using a Seasonal Responsorial Psalm this week and will continue to use it until September. It is Psalm 92. The musical setting was composed by the Canadian composer, Michael Guimont. Your sung response is Lord, it is good to give thanks to You, to give thanks to You. The purpose of the Seasonal Psalm is to give you the opportunity to memorize and savor it (through weekly repetition). We encourage you to follow the lead of the Cantor on this beautiful refrain. The other sung Summer Mass parts have been selected from very familiar sources. Since the Parish Choir, music groups, and Children s choir take vacation time in the Summer, we urge you to fully participate in the Sunday Liturgy by singing your heart out. Lord, it is good to give thanks to You, to give thanks to You (Ps. 92)
