TWENTY-NINTH SUNDAY OF ORDINARY TIME OCTOBER 21, 2018 FROM THE DESK OF...DEACON JOE SMITH MASS INTENTIONS October 23 October 28 Awhile ago, I prayed for a better understanding of how the great love of God works. Just think if we all had a better understanding of His love, we would be able to share that with everyone we meet. We would be able to solve all of our worldly problems in short order. To be honest, when I prayed for this I really had no idea of what I was asking of God. Tues. (6:30p) Wed. (8:45a) Thur. (8:00a) Fri. (8:00a) Sat. (5:00p) Sun. (8:00a) Sun. (10:00a) Mary Dvorak Leither Family Otto Essington Dorothy Marx Urb & Coletta Bares For the People Dorothy Terhaar We see a similar situation in today s Gospel reading which revealed a lack of fully understanding what is asked of God. Two disciples of Jesus asked Him a question, Grant that in your glory we may sit one at your right and the other at your left. Do the disciples really understand what they are asking of Jesus? Jesus asks them if they can drink the cup that He drinks, and if they can be baptized with the baptism with which He is baptized. They respond, We can. Jesus is trying to help them understand that the cup He is referring to is the cup of His blood that will be shed for us through His Passion on the cross. The baptism He is referring to is the new life that is promised to all who believe in His resurrection. In his own words Jesus told them, For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve. To be a servant of others is what Jesus asked of all his disciples. God has given each of us gifts that allow us to serve others for the good of the Kingdom. Let us all use our gifts to fulfill our purpose on this earth, so that we may enter the Kingdom of God, not to be seated at the right or left hand of God, but at His feet, forever living in the light of His Great Love. Blessings, Deacon Joe HOLY COMMUNION TO THE HOMEBOUND If you are homebound, ill or recovering from an illness and would like to receive Holy Communion, please call Terri Hawkins at 763-428-5292 by noon on Saturday if you would like a visit next Sunday.
