Course/Module description: The definition of 'apocalyptic'; close reading and textual and philological analysis of the visions in the Book of Daniel; the historical background of the composition of the Danielic visions; the relationship between chapters 7-12 and the first half of Daniel; the relationship of the Danielic visions and contemporaneous literature; the influence of Daniel 7-12 on Jewish and Christian literature. Course/Module aims: (1) To provide the fundamental tools for the analysis of the biblical text. (2) Reading of biblical apocalyptic through philological and literary-critical methods. (3)Interpretation of the Book of Daniel in its literary and historical context. Learning outcomes - On successful completion of this module, students should be able to: Analyze the biblical text according to the philological-textual method. Discuss comprehensively the biblical text and the exegetical issues that arise when reading it. Interpret the biblical verses with the assistance of previous exegetes (traditional and critical). Assess the advantages and disadvantages of specific interpretations/interpreters. Formulate clearly these conclusions in oral and written form.
