Prayer Line: Jo Kusz 651-771-7438 From the Director of Administration and Finance Beatitudes God s blessings bring relief. Today s Gospel reading is so familiar Jesus describes the blessings (beatitudes) that come to those who are downtrodden. It interested me to see a dictionary description of the word beatitudes: bringing pleasure or relief as a welcome contrast to what one has previously experienced. These past two years at Presentation have seen more than our share of difficult financial performance. In the Annual Report to Parishioners inserted in today s bulletin, we see a second year of significant operating deficit. Yet among the many difficult feelings experienced over the past several years and troubling financial data which looks backward, there is a new season, a new reason, for hope in looking forward. In contrast to what has previously been experienced, we look forward (as John wrote in today s second reading) to see what love the Father has bestowed on us (Jn 3:1). There is relief in the blessings, the beatitudes, available to this community of faith. I will speak to these issues at all Masses next weekend and elaborate on the past financial performance. Also, I will convey the many new initiatives and growing spirit so evident today at Presentation. My prayer is that this year will continue to bring pleasure and relief to this wonderful community who have so faithfully called Presentation home. In Christ, - Steve Blessing Parish Council Members 2015-2016 Presentation Parish Council Members are as follows: Bill Josten Carol Henkes Jonathan Scrafford Teri Garrity David Gottwalt Sean Kazos Cindy Betz Liz Stejskal Jim Heymans Andrea Sandberg John McGrath Mike Picha Andy Sandberg Chair Vice Chair, Liturgy Secretary, Admin/Finance Admin/Finance Faith Formation, Youth Ministry SAC (School Advisory Council) Social Justice Social Justice Spring Festival Spring Festival Youth Ministry Rest in Peace Please remember in your prayers Raymond Fix who died recently. FFF: Family-centered Faith Formation Sincerest thanks and God s blessings to the First Communicants and their parents who participated in the Reconciliation Retreat this past Wednesday evening. The children will be involved during the upcoming weeks in further preparation for the celebration of Reconciliation which is in early February. Happy Feast of ALL SAINTS to all the saints on earth who are striving to be Saints in heaven! - Sr. Kathy The Two Feet of Social Concerns Justice: Who came to the Interfaith Dialogue at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church this past Tuesday evening? Those who wanted to learn more about our Muslim brothers and sisters; those who were upset with the actions of some radical Muslims; those who didn t think about nor knew any Muslim people; those who didn t know about the pillars of Islam; those who wanted to ask questions; those who wanted to understand our growing diversity. This event was sponsored by JUST PEOPLE who are members of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church and Presentation Catholic Church whose ministry is to strive for justice for the sake of the common good. Thanks to our Muslim brothers and sisters and everyone else who came to this informative and interfaith event, as well as to Our Redeemer Lutheran Church for their warm hospitality. Charity: For all donations received this past week, thanks and God s blessings. Needed: Quarters for laundry, 3 twin beds and 1 queen-sized bed, bus cards, food and gas gift cards. In Memory of the Deceased Members of Presentation Parish from November 22, 2014, through October 23, 2015 All Souls Day is celebrated on Monday, November 2. A Book of Remembrance will be available for you to record the names of your loved ones who have gone before you. A lighted candle with the name of those parishioners who have died in the past year is placed around the altar. Please come to honor our beloved dead through prayer and song. Jim Livingston will be visiting Presentation to do a Healing Mass for our community on Tuesday, November 24 th, at 7:30 pm in the church. Fr. Livingston is a gifted priest of the Archdiocese who has committed his life to bring healing into the lives of individuals and communities through healing Masses and chaplaincy ministry. All are welcome to attend and experience healing from all sorts of brokenness in life: physical, spiritual, or emotional. Those who are not in need of any special healing are also welcome to join and pray for others. We begin with the recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7:00 pm in the church. No RSVP is required! For questions, please contact the parish office at 651-777-8116. Today s psalm makes clear that we and everything we think we own actually belong to God instead: The Lord s are the earth and its fullness, the world and those who dwell in it. We are stewards, not owners, of our lives and all we possess! Calling All Toilers Tuesday Toilers will meet this Tuesday, November 3, at 8:30 am in Kenney Hall. All are welcome! Lunch will be served. Loaves & Fishes Team 1 will be preparing and serving supper at the Dorothy Day Center on Wednesday, November 4, 2015. 200 meals were served in October. Presentation School News I am delighted to announce that Jessica Nelson has accepted the positon of K-5 Music Teacher and Middle School Choir Director effective October 29 th. Jessica has a full background in Music and Music Ministry. Aside from assisting in directing the LifeTeen music program in Michigan for 11 years, she has extensive experience in liturgical music and is accomplished in several instruments. Jessica is eager to apply her music knowledge and teaching together in this position! Earlier this fall, Presentation of Mary Parish welcomed Jessica to its staff as Director of Confirmation and Youth Ministry. At the same time, we want to thank Mrs. Sheri Blesener for her wonderful service as our long-term substitute music teacher. Sheri has done some very nice work in serving the needs of our students and music program. We feel very blessed, and hope she will continue to be a valuable part of our community as substitute teacher in the future. The Golden Paddle: This raffle is ONLY available at the event! Enter this raffle for a chance to win the Golden Paddle! This paddle will have a live auction or special appeal monetary value of up to $1250! Only 50 Golden Paddle raffle tickets at $50 each will be sold. The Golden Paddle is worth half the dollar intake of the raffle. For example, if all 50 tickets are sold, the intake is $2500, and the value of the Golden Paddle is $1250. If fewer than 50 tickets are sold, the paddle value decreases. The paddle value will be announced prior to the drawing. (Minimum of a $500 value.) The drawing will take place after dinner so that the winner has the Golden Paddle before the live auction bidding begins. If you win the Golden Paddle, you can compete for something bigger than you planned all while supporting Presentation School!
