CCLI Song #7018338 CCLI License #520682 INVOCATION Pastor: In the Name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. l: Amen! Worshippers are invited to kneel for the Confession and Absolution. Those who desire not to kneel may sit or stand. 2

CONFESSION AND ABSOLUTION Pastor: Our help is in the name of the Lord, who made heaven and earth. Pastor: If You, O Lord, kept a record of sins, O Lord, who could stand? But with You there is forgiveness; therefore You are feared. Pastor: Since we are gathered to hear God s Word and call upon Him in prayer and praise, and receive the body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ in the fellowship of this altar, let us first consider our unworthiness and confess before God and one another that we have sinned in thought, word, and deed, and that we cannot free ourselves from our sinful condition. Together as His people, let us take refuge in the infinite mercy of God, our heavenly Father, seeking His grace for the sake of Christ, and saying: God, be merciful to me, a sinner. Almighty God, have mercy upon us, forgive us our sins, and lead us to everlasting life. Amen. Pastor: Almighty God in His mercy has given His Son to die for us and for His sake forgives us all our sins. As a called and ordained servant of Christ, and by His authority, I therefore forgive you all your sins in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. OLD TESTAMENT READING EZEKIEL 33:7-20 So you, son of man, I have made a watchman for the house of Israel. Whenever you hear a word from my mouth, you shall give them warning from me. If I say to the wicked, O wicked one, you shall surely die, and you do not speak to warn the wicked to turn from his way, that wicked person shall die in his iniquity, but his blood I will require at your hand. But if you warn the wicked to turn from his way, and he does not turn from his way, that person shall die in his iniquity, but you will have delivered your soul. And you, son of man, say to the house of Israel, Thus have you said: Surely our transgressions and our sins are upon us, and we rot away because of them. How then can we live? Say to them, As I live, declares the Lord GOD, I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but that the wicked turn from his way and live; turn back, turn back from your evil ways, for why will you die, O house of Israel? And you, son of man, say to your people, The righteousness of the righteous shall not deliver him when he transgresses, and as for the wickedness of the wicked, he shall not fall by it when he turns from his wickedness, and the righteous shall not be able to live by his righteousness when he sins. Though I say to the righteous that he shall surely live, yet if he trusts in his righteousness and does injustice, none of his righteous deeds shall be remembered, but in his injustice that he has done he shall die. Again, though I say to the wicked, You shall surely die, yet if he turns from his sin and does what is just and right, if the wicked restores the pledge, gives back what he has taken by robbery, and walks in the statutes of life, not doing injustice, he shall surely live; he shall not die. 3

None of the sins that he has committed shall be remembered against him. He has done what is just and right; he shall surely live. Yet your people say, The way of the Lord is not just, when it is their own way that is not just. When the righteous turns from his righteousness and does injustice, he shall die for it. And when the wicked turns from his wickedness and does what is just and right, he shall live by them. Yet you say, The way of the Lord is not just. O house of Israel, I will judge each of you according to his ways. THE EPISTLE READING 1 CORINTHIANS 10:1-13 13 I want you to know, brothers, that our fathers were all under the cloud, and all passed through the sea, and all were baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea, and all ate the same spiritual food, and all drank the same spiritual drink. For they drank from the spiritual Rock that followed them, and the Rock was Christ. Nevertheless, with most of them God was not pleased, for they were overthrown in the wilderness. Now these things took place as examples for us, that we might not desire evil as they did. Do not be idolaters as some of them were; as it is written, The people sat down to eat and drink and rose up to play. We must not indulge in sexual immorality as some of them did, and twenty-three thousand fell in a single day. We must not put Christ to the test, as some of them did and were destroyed by serpents, nor grumble, as some of them did and were destroyed by the Destroyer. Now these things happened to them as an example, but they were written down for our instruction, on whom the end of the ages has come. Therefore let anyone who thinks that he stands take heed lest he fall. No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it. Please stand for the Reading of the Holy Gospel. THE HOLY GOSPEL LUKE 13:1-9 There were some present at that very time who told him about the Galileans whose blood Pilate had mingled with their sacrifices. And he answered them, Do you think that these Galileans were worse sinners than all the other Galileans, because they suffered in this way? No, I tell you; but unless you repent, you will all likewise perish. Or those eighteen on whom the tower in Siloam fell and killed them: do you think that they were worse offenders than all the others who lived in Jerusalem? No, I tell you; but unless you repent, you will all likewise perish. And he told this parable: A man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard, and he came seeking fruit on it and found none. And he said to the vinedresser, Look, for three years now I have come seeking fruit on this fig tree, and I find none. Cut it down. Why should it use up the ground? And he answered him, Sir, let it alone this year also, until I dig around it and put on manure. Then if it should bear fruit next year, well and good; but if not, you can cut it down. 4

KINGDOM KIDS CHOIR Lord Jesus, Be My Song Worshippers are invited to stand and share the peace of the Lord with each other. Children can come down to the chancel steps for the children s message. CHILDREN HILDREN S MESSAGE Children going to Sunday School will be met at the back of the church in the center aisle. Prayer and member/guest cards will be collected during the following song: CONGREGATIONAL SONG O Worship The King O worship the King, all glorious above, O gratefully sing His wonderful love; Our Shield and Defender, the Ancient of Days, Pavilioned in splendor, and girded with praise. O tell of His might, O sing of His grace, Whose robe is the light and canopy space! His chariots of wrath the deep thunderclouds form, And dark is His path on the wings of the storm. Chorus: You alone are the matchless King, To You alone be all majesty. Your glories and wonders, what tongue can recite? You breathe in the air, You shine in the light. (Shine in the light, You shine in i the light.) O measureless might, ineffable love; While angels delight to worship above. Thy mercies how tender, how firm to the end, Our Maker, Defender, Redeemer, and Friend. Chorus Twice O worship the King, all glorious above, O gratefully sing His wonderful love; Our Shield and Defender, the Ancient of Days, Pavilioned in splendor, and girded with praise. APOSTLES CREED I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth. And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From thence He will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church, the Communion of Saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen. GATHERING OF OUR TITHES AND OFFERINGS God doesn t need our money, but in His grace He gives us the privilege to be stewards of everything He has entrusted to our care. We can do more together than separately. As one body in Christ, our congregation has agreed to offer our first fruits to support ministries and missions that enable us to communicate Christ s love to everyone, everywhere; and our love for Him. Your sacrificial gift enables this holy work. MUSICAL OFFERING O Worship The King ABIDING PRAISE Words & Music by Chris Tomlin, Johann Michael Haydn & Robert Grant Copyright 2004 sixsteps Music (Admin. by Capitol CMG Publishing) All rights reserved. Used by permission. CCLI Song #4255664 CCLI License #520682 THE PRAYERS Pastor: Let us pray for the whole people of God in Christ Jesus and for all people according to their needs. Pastor: Lord, in Your mercy, hear our prayer. After each petition the prayer concludes: Pastor: Into Your hands, O Lord, we commend ourselves and all for whom we pray, trusting in Your mercy through Jesus Christ, our Lord. We pray together, Our Father who art in heaven, Hallowed be Thy name; Thy kingdom come; Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven; Give us this day our daily bread; And forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; And lead us not into temptation; But deliver us from evil. For Thine is the Kingdom and the Power and the Glory for ever and ever. Amen. 6

HOLY COMMUNION REGARDING HOLY COMMUNION As Lutheran communicants, we believe that Jesus Christ is truly present in this holy supper. Be mindful of the words of St. Paul: Let a man examine himself, and so eat of the bread and drink of the cup. (1 Corinthians 11:28) Are you truly sorry for your sins? Do you believe your sins are forgiven because Jesus died for them? Do you believe that Jesus gives you His own body and blood in the sacrament as a seal of that forgiveness? Do you have the sincere intent to do better in living the Christian life? Then come, and receive assurance and strength from Jesus. NOTE: In the center of each communion tray are a few glasses with grape juice wine for those who are on alcohol restrictive medications or who, for personal reasons, wish to abstain from wine. Also we have gluten-free communion wafers available for those who need them. They are in the small plastic containers on the wafer trays (patens). The empty plastic containers may be placed in the bags with the used communion cups. WORDS OF INSTITUTION Pastor: Our Lord Jesus Christ, on the night when He was betrayed, took bread, and when He had given thanks, He broke it and gave it to the disciples and said: Take, eat; this is My body, which is given for you. This do in remembrance of me. In the same way also He took the cup after supper, and when He had given thanks, He gave it to them, saying: Drink of it, all of you; this is My blood of the new testament, which is shed for you for the forgiveness of sins. This do, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me. THE PEACE Pastor: The peace of the Lord be with you. People: And also with you. DISTRIBUTION SONGS In Christ Alone In Christ alone my hope is found, He is my light, my strength, my song; This cornerstone, this solid ground, Firm through the fiercest drought and storm. What heights of love, what depths of peace, When fears are stilled, when strivings cease. My comforter, my all in all, Here in the love of Christ I stand. In Christ alone, who took on flesh, Fullness of God in helpless Babe! This gift of love and righteousness, Scorned by the ones He came to save. Till on the cross, as Jesus died, The wrath of God was satisfied. For ev ry sin on Him was laid; Here in the death of Christ I live. There in the ground His body lay, Light of the world by darkness slain; Then, bursting forth in glorious day, Up from the grave He rose again! And as He stands in victory, Sin s curse has lost its grip on me; For I am His and He is mine, Bought with the precious blood of Christ. 7

No guilt in life, no fear in death, This is the pow r of Christ in me; From life s first cry to final breath, Jesus commands my destiny. No pow r of hell, no scheme of man, Can ever pluck me from His hand; Till He returns or calls me home, Here in the pow r of Christ I ll stand! Chorus: Everything I once held dear, I count it all as loss. Lead me to the cross, where Your love poured out. Bring me to my knees, Lord, I lay me down. Rid me of myself, I belong to You. Oh, lead me. Lead me to the cross. You were as I, tempted and tried, human. The word became flesh, bore my sin in death. Now, You re risen. Chorus To Your heart. To Your heart. To Your heart. To Your heart. Lead me to the cross, where Your love poured out. Bring me to my knees, Lord, I lay me down. Rid me of myself, I belong to You. Oh, lead me. Lead me to the cross. O God our Father, the fountain and source of all goodness, who in loving-kindness sent Your only-begotten Son into the flesh, we thank You that for His sake You have given us pardon and peace in this sacrament, and we ask You not to forsake Your children but always to rule our hearts and minds by Your Holy Spirit that we may be enabled to serve You constantly; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen. BENEDICTION Pastor: The Lord bless you and keep you. The Lord make His face shine upon you and be gracious unto you. The Lord look upon you with favor and give you peace. Amen! 8
