March 30 NEW TESTAMENT EPISTLE: JAMES OPEN GROUP Led by: Julie Brown Location: Overflow Rock Solid Family Ministry Update The Lord is moving in our kids. Jesus said, Let the little children come to Me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these. Is there an age which is too young to serve the body of Christ? On Sunday I stood amazed as teacher Jennifer led our kids in prayer over a service project they had completed that morning; A platter of no bake cookies and a box of cards for the Restoration class meeting that evening. The cards were bright and colorful, filled with I-love-yous and I m-prayingfor-you sentiments. I listened as the children went around in a circle with hands laid on the box of cards praying that Jesus would be with our adults. Isaiah 11:6 says a little child shall lead them. Let us follow the example of our kids, let us serve and pray for one another. The cookies were received with joy and thankfulness. I am so proud & thankful for what our God is doing through our Kids. I believe He is truly making them Rock Solid! Trustees Notes 2016-17 has begun and we want God to be in control. This will be a year with the Board and Ministry Council meeting together. The first meeting of the year provided some great discussion and with God s leading there will be great strides made this year. With only three months to go before the Raise the Roof Campaign wraps up we are almost 80% there having raised just over $19,000 so far. The goal is for $25,000. Thank you to all that have participated in this very important and necessary program. Please continue to contribute and those of you that are still trying to decide, remember this building is a great resource given to us by the Lord and we need to take care of it. You can contribute even if you have not signed a pledge card, just be sure that your contribution check is marked roof so that it will be credited correctly. Our budget is not starting out so good. Instead of meeting projections we are only at about 60%. But it is early and with prayer and faithfulness the Board hopes this will be a year we come in over budget, breaking the trend of the last several years. A good way to start providing could be during Lent. If you have given up something like shopping,,starbucks, or some small regular expense, consider giving the funds you would have spent to the church. Faith Promise Update Our recent Faith Promise Weekend with Jim Lyon was awesome! The Mission Committee thanks all who participated, especially those who stepped out in faith and pledged financial support. The Children of Promise, supported missionaries, and other outreach ministries makes it possible for our church go into all the world. For those who have not pledged, would you please prayerfully consider supporting Faith Promise and be a part of the Great Commission? Dropping support of some outreach ministries and missionaries is hard to imagine, but it will be necessary if support does not increase soon. If we step out in faith, God will provide. Remember, God blesses a mission giver and a mission giving church Please pray about it, Jim Brown Joann Albertus Missions Committee A Sure Sign of Hope: Resurrection Recently a group facilitator posed this insightful question to a group of leaders, "What would it take for you to have hope?" In the face of a crisis, where some were yielding to despair, others had resigned to themselves to helplessness or simply forsaken faith, this wise coach challenged us to reflect on what inward or outward sign would bring hope. I've got to admit I was challenged. I'm by nature a glass half-full kind of guy, but there are situations and persons which require extra effort on my part to remain positive. Sometimes the most hopeless case is me! So as I began to reflect on his question my mind went almost immediately to the Resurrection. Easter is only a month away and nature around us is already pointing to the hope of new life. It was as if I was compelled by the question to think of Jesus. Jesus is the source and assurance of hope. The One who God raised from the dead and who reigns at the right hand of the Father loudly testifies to the hope we each possess by faith. Mondays from 2-4:00 p.m. For information, call Pastor Larry at 541-673-7073 or email lbrown@hucrestcog.org. The scripture bubbling up in my soul during that conversation was this, Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. (Colossians 3:1-2 NIV) In those moments I realized the most hopeful thought I could have was for our conversations and our attention to shift away from ourselves to Jesus. I am convinced no crisis is beyond God s capability, and I trust His heart. My commitment is to keep seeking the things above! I pray you will join me in looking for signs of hope from our God above! May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. Romans 15:13 Blessings!
