Celebrating the Joy of Being a Father Diocese of Portland: June 2018 Amoris Laetitia It is not good for children to lack a Father and to grow up before they are ready N. 177 God sets the Father in the family so that by the gifts of his masculinity he can be close to his wife and share everything, joy and sorrow, hope and hardship. And to be close to his children as they grow-when they play and when they work, when they are carefree and when they are distressed, when they are talkative and when they are silent, when they are daring and when they are afraid, when they stray and when they get back on the right path. Parishioners of the Western Maine Lakes and Foothills have a long history of showing their commitment to the Diocese of Portland by supporting the Catholic Appeal. This month, all parish families have been asked to make their pledge to the 2018 Catholic Appeal. We ask that you give prayerful consideration to this important request from the Bishop. The appeal funds the agencies and ministries that support thousands of our brothers and sisters in need across the state of Maine. We hope that you will respond generously. We thank you in advance for your participation in this vitally important initiative. Classes will be held in the parish classroom at St. Joseph Church FMI or to register: Jeanne Bigelow at 207-831-1895 Or 65bigelow@gmail.com A reminder about sacred silence before Mass: Earlier this year Pope Francis gave a series of reflections about the parts of the Mass. Here he reminds us of the need and the benefit of quiet time and reflection before our worship: When we go to Mass, maybe we arrive 5 minutes early and we start to chat with those in front of us, but it is not a moment to chat, it is a moment of silence, to prepare ourselves for dialogue with God, it is a time for the heart to collect itself in order to prepare the encounter with Jesus. Silence is so important: Remember...we do not go to a show, we go to meet the Lord and silence prepares us and accompanies us. To our Special Friends at St. Joseph s Church It was wonderful to be back at St. Joseph s on Sunday morning. We thank Father Ed for our special blessing. Then after, to greet you all at Coffee and Donuts. The cake and flowers were so beautiful. We miss our parish very much, After 30 years here, we have to begin again. But, we are not far away and friends can visit us and we can come back. We just got reminded of the beautiful choir at St. Joes s, the warm friendliness, and the hardworking parishioners that make this happen. Thank you Father Ed and Father Peter, for being there for us, for your holiness and how beautifully your represent the priesthood of our Catholic Church. You have fed us in our faith.
