St Peter s Church, St Albans Third Sunday of Lent 24 March 2019 Welcome! If you are new or a visitor please introduce yourself to one of those welcoming at the door. We are pleased to have you with us. There is a children s corner in the side aisle for babies and young children, and changing facilities are available. Junior Church groups for ages 4+ meet in the Octagon during the 10.30am service. All children are invited to process through to the Octagon during the first hymn. You are welcome to stay with your children or walk them around as you need to. They come back after the Peace to join in the rest of the service. Today The Annual Parochial Church Meeting (APCM) 24 March 2019 at 1200 noon Please note the APCM meeting will be held in church after a combined Holy Communion at 10.30 am (replacing the 9.30am and 11.15am services). There will be a break for coffee after the service, before the meeting starts at 12pm, followed by an informal community bring & share lunch which all are warmly welcome to stay for. Copies of the minutes of the 2018 APCM and Parishioner s Meeting, 2018 Accounts and details of candidates for election to the PCC are on display by the South Door and on the notice board at the back of church. They can also be viewed on the church website. The Amalia Ensemble Sunday 24 March at 4pm at St Peter s Church. A relaxing hour of chamber music to raise money for the Tony Wigram Foundation, supporting Music Therapy Research. Featuring Mozart's beautiful Eb Major Piano Quartet and a selection of other works. Lent Leaflet: Please pick up a leaflet by the South door with details of St Albans City Centre Churches Lent courses and services. Lent Course: Finding a Voice by Hilary Brand is based around the award-winning movie, The King's Speech. The next session at St Peter's is on Tuesday 26 March 2019 at 1.30pm in the Octagon. Details of other venues included in the Lenten Leaflet. Copies of Finding a Voice from the church office (cost 6) are still available Easter Service Cards containing details of Holy Week and Easter Services at St Peter s are now available by the South door. As ever we rely on a congregation-wide effort to help us deliver these cards to homes within St Peter s parish. This year we will concentrate on delivering these to the houses closest to St Peter s. Please could you take a bundle and deliver to one of the roads? Even if you only have half an hour to spare every little helps and shares round the load. There are also spare bundles that you are welcome to take to local shops, cafés or other locations that maybe willing to display them. Thank you in anticipation. Easter Flowers and remembering loved ones at Easter: Our skilful flower arrangers do a wonderful job of transforming the church for our Easter celebrations. You are invited to make a special donation towards our Easter flowers. Many people do this in thanksgiving for the life of a loved one and their names are then remembered on our Easter flower roll. Brown, donation envelopes are available in the marked box at the south door. If you would like to give in memory of a loved one, please write on the front In memory of plus name. Please write clearly and place in the donation box (also by the south door) or give to the church office by Sunday 7 April. Communion at home: If you know of anyone who would like to have Holy Communion brought to them at home at Easter, please let Margaret know jemjtinsley@hotmail.com Carry the Cross - On Good Friday (19 April) you are invited to join Christians from churches across St Albans District in carrying the Cross from St Albans and St Stephen's Church, Beaconsfield Road (meet at 7.20pm) to the St Albans Cathedral for the 8pm Unity at the Cross ecumenical service. You may be tired. The weather may not be good. And then there's the Cross to carry... Easter Pilgrimage to the Abbey Monday 22 April - People, young and old, walk to the Cathedral from across the diocese to meet and gather in the Cathedral from 2pm. Service starts at 3pm.
Concerts Lunchtime Concert Wednesday 27 March at 1pm. This week pianist Marie Otaka and tenor Joel Williams will be performing music by Schubert, Haydn, Mozart, Strauss, Poulenc and more. The concert lasts just under one hour and is free with a retiring collection for Rennie Grove Hospice Care. Refreshments are served in the Octagon after the concert. This is our last concert before the Easter break. Concerts resume on Wednesday 24 April with pianist Anna Le Hair and violinist Arwen Newband. Voix de Vivre Concert Saturday 30 March at 7.30pm at St Peter s Church. This concert features German Choral Greats such as Brahms, Mendelssohn, Schubert and Bach. Tickets are 15/OAP 13/students 5 and are available from ticketsource.co.uk/voixdevivre or at the door. Children and Youth The Core - Tuesdays from 6 until 7.15pm term-time only. If you are aged 9 14 come and join us for a relaxed and fun time. Remaining term dates Tuesday 26 February - 26 March. An extra pair of hands is always welcome. Youth Café is a discussion group for 14 19 year olds, meeting on Sundays at 11am until 12.30pm. Remaining dates for this term are 24 March, 7 April and 14 April. Sessions will be led by Ruth Dearnley and held in the vicarage. Messy Church is once a month on a Friday morning from 10 11.30am. We begin with refreshments followed by a short bible-themed story and then 45 minutes of crafts ranging from gluing, painting, sand and play dough, decorating cakes, etc. We end with songs and a prayer. Everyone is welcome. Our next Messy Church is on Good Friday 19 April at 10am. All ages are welcome.
