The Bulletin Knights of Columbus, St. James Council 1728, 1900 Central Ave, Kearney, Ne.68847 Jan. 2018 www.kofc1728.org A Note from the Editor Here we are into 2018. Have you made your New Year s resolution or have you broken it already? We have these great intentions but they seem to not make it. Oh well we have good intentions. One of our intentions is the 2018 K of C fish fry. It is hard to believe but it is only a few weeks away. Ash Wed. is Feb. 14 th. Prince of Peace Council will have the first fry on Feb. 9th. Then St. James will have the next six weeks. No fish fry on Good Friday. Fish fries are a lot of work and it takes a lot of help. This is one of our biggest projects and the people expect us to have the annual Fish Fry. So when you are called to help us out please fill in when you can or go the Signup Genius and you can sign in there. It is up and is on line. Go to the link below and you are there. Pick the time and date you want to help and sign up. It is very simple. If you can t help out on Friday we can use you on Thursday to help setup. That Signup Genius is: http://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c084dacab2ca4ff2-2018

A Message from the desk of: Mark Glatter Grand Knight Brother Knights. If you haven't already filled out your Annual Fraternal Activity Survey please fill it out and return it to Andy along with the payment of your dues. Fish fries are right around the corner so be watching for information on the Sign-Up Genius for helpers. Thanks to the carolers who joined in singing at the retirement homes. The elderly all really enjoyed and appreciated it and some even joined us in singing a few carols! The pro-life One Rose/One Life culture of life weekend for St. James Council 1728 will be Jan. 13 & 14th. We need Knights to distribute the prayer cards before each mass that weekend. Thanks, Mark GK 1728 2017 Knights of Columbus Christmas Caroling: (2)

A Message from the desk of the Clergy No Message this Month Mitch O Neill D.D. #24 May the Lord bless your New Year and keep you in good health. Thank you Brother knights for all you do in your church, council and community. Field Agents Message <Michael Scholz,FICF John Vanderbeek, FICF> 308-991-6157 308-216-0532 Michael.scholz@kofc.org john.vanderbeek@kofc.org Serving Last Named A-K Serving Last Named L-Z Where did 2017 go? I hope you and your family had a great finish to 2017. Now, the first quarter of 2018 is flying by. Hopefully, you ve established a few goals for this year. I ve learned a great tip regarding resolutions. First, write them down. It s not too late if you haven t already done this. Commit your goals to paper and post it someplace you will see it often. Writing down a goal is the first step towards achieving it. It may not make sense at first, but I m sure you have heard stories of the success this simple task can bring. Whether your goal is to exercise more, give more to charity, read more or watch less television, you re more likely to accomplish it if you write it down. Second, resolve to have an expert look at your finances. I recommend that you have a team of experts help you, and I would love to be the first you sit with. Let s schedule some time to meet together, and I, your professional Knights of Columbus insurance agent, will provide an insurance check-up (at no cost!) that will evaluate any gaps in your family s life insurance protection. Now might be the perfect time to fill those gaps, not later. Keep in mind that unlike many other products, you don t just need money to obtain life insurance; you also need good health, and no one knows when your health could change. Did I mention my check-up is free of charge? When was the last time you received something for free that could provide value to you and your family for generations? Call me today. Q: What is The Lord's Prayer? A: The Lord's Prayer refers to a prayer in the Bible that was composed by Jesus and given to His followers. This prayer is recorded in Matthew 6: 5-15. It is also called "The Our Father Prayer" by Catholics, and it teaches Christian how to pray to God. FULL ANSWER The Lord's Prayer teaches the followers of Jesus to direct their prayer to "God the Father" only. This is evident in the first line of the prayer, which states, "Our Father in heaven." In the line, "Your kingdom come," this prayer teaches Christians that God plans to establish his heavenly kingdom on earth. This indicates the intent of Jesus to descend from heaven and establish a 1000-year kingdom on the earth, then rule it from Jerusalem, after which God the Father then descends to the earth and joins Jesus. "Give us this day our daily bread" reminds Christians that God is the sole provider of everything that they need to live. The prayer also enlightens Christians that when they forgive their fellow human beings, God rewards them by pardoning them of their own sins. This is embedded in the line, "Forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors." Aside from revealing that God fights the devil that beguiles Christians, this prayer reveals to Christians that God's kingdom is eternal. These are captured in, "Do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one" and "For yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever.

Sick or in Distress If you have a member of your family or a friend who needs some prayers, email me and a little detail and I will post it here.
