From Our Pastor... OKTOBERFEST!! Every Fall on the last Saturday of September, St. Clare Parish celebrates our region s German heritage with a great fundraising event called Oktoberfest. It s a festival for the entire family featuring wonderful food and drink, games and raf les, a fun run, live music, and more! This event is open to the public and attracts visitors from throughout the region. While we welcome this annual opportunity to enjoy fun and fellowship, as a parish we also count on the revenue generated by Oktoberfest to help pay down the mortgage on our new church. Our pro it for our 2014 Oktoberfest exceeded $50,000! We re very proud to be celebrating our 15 th Oktoberfest, and I invite you to do your part as we prepare for our anniversary event on Saturday, September 26! As a member of our parish family, your involvement is CRUCIAL to our success. Please consider: Buying and selling raf le tickets for our two great raf les. The raf le contributes the greatest amount of pro it to Oktoberfest, so its success is vital! Donating a prize to the raf le stand, basket raf le, silent auction or bingo. This can be merchandise, gift cards/certi icates, services, condo stays or tickets for concerts, sporting events, etc. Many other donations are needed for our dinner, gaming and food stands. Becoming an Oktoberfest sponsor, with opportunities to promote your business or workplace and enjoy tax bene its as you support our parish. Serving as a general volunteer before, during and after the event. Signups will be available at weekend Masses beginning this weekend, August 14/15. We count on every parish household to make Oktoberfest a success. May we count on you? God bless you and your generosity! Fr. Jim Deiters Special Thanks! I want to thank the members of the parish for their response to my appeal on behalf of UNBOUND on August 8-9. As I mentioned from the Altar after the Masses, I enjoyed celebrating the Eucharist with you and sharing in your devotion to the Lord. There are too many individuals to thank but a few need to be mentioned: Marcia, for help in preparing for the visit, members of the parish who helped after the Masses as people gathered to sponsor our children and Senior citizens, and those families and individuals who committed to supporting our ministry and sponsoring someone. Fifty-three people made that commitment. God will bless you even more abundantly for your generosity. A word of thanks who spoke so graciously to me after the Masses and Janet, for the gluten-free banana bread and those who packed a bag of tomatoes and cucumbers for me to take home. God bless everyone. Perhaps we will meet again. Fr. The Church just celebrated the Feasts of St. Maximilian Kolbe on August 14 and the Assump on of Mary on August 15. Did you know there is a connec on between this great saint and Mary? In this CD, St. Maximilian Kolbe and the Problem of FREEMASONRY, Dr. Mark Miravalle shares the life of this great saint and martyr who started the Mili a of the Immaculata, an army of Mary whose goal is to spread Consecra on to Mary throughout the world and to pray against the evils of Freemasonry. What appears to us to be a social club, with hospitals that help children, Freemasonry, St. Maximilian says, is actually a religion that is Gnos c and an -Catholic and has been condemned by Pope a er Pope since the 1700s. Dr. Miravalle dis nguishes what Freemasons believe, why the Church speaks out against Freemasonry, what we as Catholics should know, and why Consecra on to Mary is the answer to fight the evils in all mes, especially now. Dr. Mark Miravalle is a professor of Theology and Mariology at Franciscan University of Steubenville, interna onal speaker, permanent deacon, author of over 16 books on Mary and Mariology, husband and father of eight, and President of the interna onal Catholic movement, Vox Populi Mariae Mediatrici (Voice of the People of Mary Mediatrix.) He has made several television appearances including EWTN, Fox News and NBC s Dateline among other numerous credits. Stop by the kiosk in the Gathering Space to see tles from our new shipment of CDs, Books and Booklets! We will be adding new tles weekly! Lighthouse Catholic Media is a non-profit organiza on, so your dona ons of $2.00 per Booklet, $3.00 per CD and $4.00 per Book goes directly into ordering new tles in the coming months. RESPECT LIFE CORNER Helping People to Help Themselves The Catholic Campaign for Human Development (CCHD) is an instrument of the Catholic Church working to carry out the mission of Jesus Christ. Learn, Act, Connect, Pray: CCHD has a two fold mandate:to help low-income people participate in decisions that affect their lives, their families and communities and to provide education and promote understanding about poverty and its root causes. To learn more about CCHD and ways you can participate in their mission, go to www.usccb.org. Pray for the strength to follow the examples of Jesus. Like Jesus, may the Spirit provide us with a voice to cry out for justice for the poor.

Upcoming Bridges Retreat September 2015 May 2016 St. Nicholas Parish has been the Metro-East site for the Bridges Retreat for the past three years, a program based on the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius. The Spiritual Exercises and its principles and prayer methods provide a foundation for Jesuit spirituality and outlook. Pope Francis, our first Jesuit pope, exudes the joy of knowing Jesus, and he views the Gospels in imaginative ways, both reflecting important components of the Spiritual Exercises. If you are interested in receiving the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius, please attend an information session at St. Nicholas Good Shepherd Spirituality Center at 7:00 pm on Wednesday, August 12. The retreat starts in mid-sept 2015 and will meet on Wednesday evenings at St. Nicholas through early May 2016. If you cannot attend the session or would just like more information, go to www.bridgesfoundation.org or contact Cheryl at (636) 225-8433 or Cindy at 741-8075.
