EDITOR NOTE On June 22 nd, my AT&T email account was hacked and all of my contact information was lost. If you receive an email from curtis.samson@att.net do not open it, it s a scam. I deleted that account and opened a G-mail account. My new email address is: curtissamson67@gmail.com. If you ever receive an email from my email address requesting you to send money somewhere, it is a SCAM. I will never, ever ask for urgent help or beg for money. Curtis Samson Editor COMMANDER S MESSAGE As we start a new year within our Post there are many challenges ahead, the first one being construction of our new Post home, although it seems to be going slow, our Post member Craig Crowe is working very hard in the background to get to that point, our major delay has been in dealing with Charleston County Planning Commission. I m hoping that we will be able to celebrate our Post 30 th Anniversary on December 15, 2017 in our new home. We now have a Donate button in our Facebook Page American Legion Post 179 Charleston, SC the current donation is to be used towards the American Legion Palmetto Boys State if you desire to donate. I m hoping that we have a great year in membership, this past year which ended on 30 June 2017 we had the highest percentage (97.16) of renewals for our Post since 2011, don t forget, for those of you that renew for the year 2017-2018 prior to 30 September, 2017 your card will be stamped as an Early Bird. There are many options for you to renew, in our website www.post179.com, by mail, by visiting the Post and paying the bartender, on the national website www.legion.org. As previously mentioned, all honorably discharged veterans will be able to shop online at the exchanges beginning November 11, 2017. All honorably discharged veterans interested in shopping online at the military exchanges can begin their verification process immediately. Some veterans who register at VetVerify.org will be invited to be beta testers, with the ability to shop online earlier than the planned November 11 launch date. Officials said the sooner veterans register on the site, the better their chances of being chosen as a beta tester. Once registered and verified, veterans will be able to shop at the following websites: shopmyexchange.com; shopcgx.com; mymcx.com; and mynavyexchange.com. Remember there are no taxes to worry about. On July 15, 2017 commencing at 7:00 pm we will be having our yearly Flag Retirement Ceremony, this is a very somber ceremony that you will not want to miss. Should any member need to contact me please feel free to do so at 843-991-6308 or via email at alpost179@gmail.com, remember however that matters pertaining to the Post are best brought up at your General Membership Meeting.
