Grand Knight Report Treasurer Report 5/31/18 balance is $6509.29 Meeting Minutes 6/5/18 Currently no outstanding receipts or bills Financial Secretary Report Hank sent letter to 25 brother knights who have yet to pay their dues for 2018. These knights are at risk of suspension. Current roll of knights is 133 (which includes the 25 who haven t paid their dues. Our council currently sitting on a net loss of 4 knights (w/ a total of 13 to go in order to meet quota) Trustees Report Chancellor Report Service Programs Committee Report Lecturer Note Cy H. Reflected on his Lecturer s Note for May and June 2018, citing the importance of treating the sign of the cross as a veritable prayer unto itself an opportunity to ask for the graces necessary to fully participate in this Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. Standing Committees Report Old Business Daughters of Isabella: According to GK Henry, The Bishop has formally been asked to allow a D of I circle to be established in the Diocese of Knoxville. Lacrosse Tournament: GK Henry reported that the event raised $11,000.00 for the CCET Pregnancy Centers. Youth Support: A sponsorship check in the amount of $450.00 was given to Annie Nassis for the sponsorship of one child to the Catholic Heart Work Camp. Page 2 of 6
Meeting Minutes 6/5/18 Corpus Christie Mass: GK Henry reported that he and Mike Wills were in full regalia leading the procession with one male usher, Brian Boling and two other knights caring the canopy. First Friday Fish Fry: GK Henry indicated that Fr. Doug currently embraces this event at his current parish in Lenoire City, so it will likely be embraced at All Saints. Jerry DL stated that he would wait until sometime in mid-august to bring up the idea with Fr. Doug, giving him time to settle in at All Saints. Stations of the Cross Plaque: GK Henry presented the council with the facsimile of the plaque that will adorn Station VIII. Blood Drive: Paul Rodarte has agreed to take this on and has already been successful in manning a sign up table after Mass. A sign up sheet for knights to man the volunteer station during the blood drive (scheduled for Sunday, June 10) was passed among the council. Storage Space: Nothing new to report. New Business ELECTION OF OFFICERS GK Henry read the roster of newly elected officers to the council and reminded the council that, in addition to serving as 3 Year Trustee, he will also be serving as District Deputy for district 19 (with Jimmy Dee moving to District 20). He offered to resign from his position of 3 Year Trustee if the council felt like there would be a conflict of interest in his serving both positions. Mike Stahl responding by saying he foresaw no conflict of interest and Paul Rodarte seconded this sentiment. GK Henry opted to remain in both positions. Draft Meeting Minutes 8/26/18 Because District Deputy Jimmy Dee was present and willing, the Installation of New Officers ceremony was conducted for those knights attending. Afterward, Jimmy Dee thanked outgoing GK Henry for his dedication and service to the Knights of Columbus and All Saints Parish Council #15706. Outgoing GK Henry reflected on his tenure, calling it a humbling experience to have been given a vote of confidence and support by the council. Outgoing GK Henry passed the gavel to Incoming GK Tim Truster, after which Incoming GK Tim presided over the final minutes of the council meeting, including prayer requests for the good of the order, leading the council in the Hail Mary, and bringing the meeting to a close. - Silver Rose GK Henry outlined the schedule for All Saints part in the Silver Rose, encouraging participation and mentioning the benefits for All Saints Parish and the council. He expects between 200 and 250 parishioners to attend on August 8. - Dragon Boat Festival Deacon Scott Meantz is looking for volunteers to help with the upcoming Dragon Boat Festival on Saturday, June 23, 2018. There is need for help from 5:45 am till 10:00 am, and volunteers will receive a t-shirt and access to watch the event. Tim truster, Paul Rodarte, and Scott Houghton agreed to volunteer. Scott Houghton brought up the possibility of the council entering a boat into the race, and it was decided that, since it was too late to register for this year s event, it would be worth considering for next year. - Request from the State Deputy A new chapter (#17010) has been established in Mt. Juliet, TN All councils are asked to consider a donation to the new council to help it get started. Motion was made by Scott H. To make a donation to the new council. The suggested amount was $150.00. Paul R. seconded the motion for a $150.00 gift. Michael K. asked if there was a precedence for councils donating and the response was that the district would be giving $100.00, but any amount by the council s was based on their independent consideration. All voted in favor of the motion. First Degree Report David Clark and Brian Bolling were named 1st degree knights after a ceremony on May 19, 2018. Candidate Dillon Cox attended the council meeting and satisfied the requirements of the first degree with the assistance of Jimmy Dee during the council meeting. Dillon was presented by Jimmy Dee to the council at the end of the meeting as our newest first degree knight and received a warm welcome from the council. Page 4 of 6
Draft Meeting Minutes 8/26/18 Fourth Degree Report Scott Manning (not in attendance) was recognized and congratulated for becoming a 4th degree knight. Future 4th degree ceremonies were listed: October 2018 TBD Nov. 10, 2018 in Clarksville Feb. 16, 2019 in Memphis Mar. 16, 2019 in Chattanooga Apr. 6, 2019 in Nashville May 18, 2019 in Knoxville Jun. 8, 2019 in Kingsport Insurance Agent Report District Deputy Report - Jimmy Dee reported on the Strengthening Our Parish initiative and stated that Cardinal Rigali is fully supportive of the initiative. He emphasized the help it provides to our pastor and priests, walking hand in hand and side by side with them, the fact that it affords an opportunity to get back to the basics and show what true Catholic manhood looks like by showing respect and love for the priesthood, and he encouraged all to offer prayer for the priests for their protection and sanctification. - Jimmy reminded the council to turn in their SB7 by the end of the month to be eligible for the Columbus Award. - Jimmy reminded the council of the July 28, kick off meeting and recommended that the Grand Knight, Deputy Grand Knight, Financial Secretary, and Membership officer be in attendance. It is scheduled to last from the early morning to the afternoon and will be in Alcoa, TN. - Jimmy thanked the council for their support of new council #17010. - GK Henry thanked Jimmy Dee for his support of the council as District Deputy for District 19. Additional Business Transportation Support - Michael Kull brought up a need for providing transportation for residents at Arbor Terrace who wish to attend Mass at All Saints. The general opinion of the council was that it is a worthy cause, with Tony Venafro suggesting that there are issues of liability that would need to be addressed. Michael offered to research the needs and requirements to make this happen with the council s approval. No official action was required at this time. Fr. Michael - Ray Muratore reported that Fr. Michael will be presiding over each Mass during his final week as Pastor of All Saints, culminating with an outdoor reception after the 11:45 Mass. He anticipates that as many as 500 people will attend and suggested that there be coffee, juice and cake for the reception. He asked for knights to consider volunteering for this event. Draft Meeting Minutes 8/26/18 A suggestion was made to present Fr. Michael with a gift from the council. Paul R. Recommended a signed copy of a print titled Raise The Faith. Paul R. Made a motion to allocate $25.00 for the print. Tim T. amended the motion to include the cost of framing (set at $100.00). Tony V. Seconded the motion and the motion passed unanimously. Connie Brice - After a call to help Connie move, Ray M. reported that he spent an hour helping to move boxes and smaller items in preparation for the larger moving of furniture to follow. Activity Surveys - Hank Davis reminded the council of the importance of tracking volunteer hours in service to the Knights of Columbus and remitting those hours to him. While it is not helpful to inundate him with hours every time they have been accrued, knights need to keep up with them faithfully, so that an accurate accounting can be presented annually. - Jimmy Dee spoke of the importance of logging hours in regards to the Knights of Columbus maintaining their not-for-profit status.
