PAGE TWO YÜÉÅ à{x ctáàéüëá Wxá~ YÜÉÅ à{x ctáàéüëá Wxá~ We light the fourth candle on the Advent wreath this Sunday, and the fully lit wreath signifies that Jesus, the Light of the World, is about to come to us at Christmas. This is why Christmas is a season of lights because we light the way for Jesus to come to us, and we also celebrate that the light of Christ is the one, true light that can expel all darkness. This truth was made manifest in the sacrament of Reconcilia on that we celebrated as a parish last week to prepare for Christmas, and it is also made manifest every me we celebrate the Eucharist throughout the year. In other words, the Mass always celebrates that God expels the darkness because He saves us from our sins. I hope that you and your loved ones can join us for Christmas Mass. Christmas Eve Masses will be celebrated at 5:00pm and Midnight, and Christmas Day will be at 8:00am, 10:00am and 12:00pm. Christmas carols will also be sung on Christmas Eve at 4:30pm and 11:30pm. So, as we enter into this season of light, I would like to wish all of you and your loved ones a very Blessed Christmas Day and Christmas season. Don t forget, the upcoming weeks of the Christmas season include such celebra ons as: the Holy Family, Epiphany, Mary Mother of God, and the Bap sm of the Lord. This last feast, Jesus Bap sm, marks the end of the Christmas season on Jan. 13 th. It s unfortunate that the secular world starts to lose interest in Christmas beginning on Dec. 26 th (but that s what happens when you put Christmas trees in stores in September!) Nevertheless, we as a Church con nue to celebrate the birth of Christ for several weeks. In fact, the week a er Christmas Day is liturgically celebrated as one day, in a sense; it is week-long extension of Christmas Day. This Octave of Christmas concludes with the Solemnity of Mary, Mother of God, which is celebrated exactly one week a er Christmas Day. So, we honor Mary s Motherhood on Jan. 1 st (and what a nice way to begin the new year, by focusing on our Blessed Mother). Masses for the Solemnity of Mary, Mother of God a Holy Day of Obliga on will be celebrated at 5:00pm on Dec. 31 st, and 10:00am on Jan. 1 st. I also need to offer two thank you s this week. First, thank you to our Music Director Richard Gersten, our parish choir, and some of our lectors for par cipa ng in our annual Infancy Narra ve (our Christmas concert) last week. And thank you to Richard and our choir for the mul ple mes that they are providing music during Advent and Christmas. I d also like to thank our Liturgy Commi ee and decora ng team for decora ng our church so beau fully for Christmas (as always!) Finally, if you need a last-minute Christmas gi, how about our parish s HYPOD ckets? HYPOD stands for Help Your Parish Out of Debt. It is a raffle fundraiser that runs throughout the year. HYPOD ckets are only $10 each, and every cket can give you 52 chances to win a cash prize (either $100 or $500) if you buy them before the first drawing in January (you can always buy HYPOD ckets any me during the year, but if you want all 52 chances to win you need to get your ckets in before the first drawing of the year). HYPOD ckets can be purchased any me at the rectory, or you can get them from the pamphlet rack at the back of church (the purple ckets near the top). You can simply fill out the cket stubs, put them in an envelope with your payment, and drop it in the collec on basket. St. Beatrice, pray for us. May God bless you, and have a Merry Christmas season! Fr. Rob

Fourth Sunday of Advent Jesus was born during the night of the year when darkness is the longest. The Savior of the world comes for the people in dark places. The real, lasting, and deep joy that is the Light shines there. Through your gift to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, Light has shown, bringing real, lasting, and deep joy to the hearts of the poor who live in dark places in our streets and neighborhood. Children s Christmas Procession At the 5:00pm Mass on Christmas Eve we will again have the procession of children placing Baby Jesus in the crib on the altar. If your child is interested in participating, please be in back of church by 4:45pm so we have a chance to instruct them. Please join us for our Christmas Eve carol sing-a-long which will be at 4:30pm and 11:30pm December 24th. Christmas Wafers 4th Sunday of Advent Christmas Wafers are available in the Bridal Room. Wafers are $1.00 per package. Your donation for the wafers goes toward the continued assistance of the St. Vincent de Paul Society.
