GCSE Biblical Hebrew Unit A201: Language General Certificate of Secondary Education Mark Scheme for June 2016 Oxford Cambridge and RSA Examinations

OCR (Oxford Cambridge and RSA) is a leading UK awarding body, providing a wide range of qualifications to meet the needs of candidates of all ages and abilities. OCR qualifications include AS/A Levels, Diplomas, GCSEs, Cambridge Nationals, Cambridge Technicals, Functional Skills, Key Skills, Entry Level qualifications, NVQs and vocational qualifications in areas such as IT, business, languages, teaching/training, administration and secretarial skills. It is also responsible for developing new specifications to meet national requirements and the needs of students and teachers. OCR is a not-for-profit organisation; any surplus made is invested back into the establishment to help towards the development of qualifications and support, which keep pace with the changing needs of today s society. This mark scheme is published as an aid to teachers and students, to indicate the requirements of the examination. It shows the basis on which marks were awarded by examiners. It does not indicate the details of the discussions which took place at an examiners meeting before marking commenced. All examiners are instructed that alternative correct answers and unexpected approaches in candidates scripts must be given marks that fairly reflect the relevant knowledge and skills demonstrated. Mark schemes should be read in conjunction with the published question papers and the report on the examination. I went to Jerusalem and I was there for three days. I arose at night I and a few men with me- and I did not tell anyone what my G-D had put into my heart/inspired me To do for Jerusalem. There was no animal with me, except the animal on which I was riding. I said to them, You see the bad (situation) in which we find ourselves; that Jerusalem is destroyed, her gates burned in fire. Come; we will build the wall of Jerusalem and we will no longer be (cause for) Incorrect translation of this is a ח ר פּ ה major error. 3

I told them of the hand of my G-D that was good to me, and even the words of the king that he had said to me. They replied/said, We will arise and we will build! They strengthened their hands/resolved (to do) the good (work). Point: The Tabernacle was built to house the Ark (Aron), which was contained the Testimony of G-d s Covenant with Israel (1) Shlomo mentions that the Tabernacle contains the Ark, which emphasises the significance of the Tabernacle as a home for this most important of items. (1) Point: More than a mere building, the Tabernacle was sanctified by G-D (1) Evidence: as G-D assures Shlomo when He appears to him 7

Point: The Tabernacle would be destroyed if the Israelites were unworthy of it (1) Evidence: Shlomo is warned that this will happen if the Israelites fail to observe the commandments and worship idols (1) Point: The Tabernacle s destruction will be interpreted by other nations as evidence that the Israelites have rejected G- D and embraced idol worship (1) Evidence: It is mentioned (in Paragraph 2) that upon seeing the destruction of the Tabernacle, nations will attribute it to these causes (1).
