Genesis 7:1-5, 11-18 (7:1) יהוה 1 coffin. ark under BDB 1061b. Probably LW Eg tbt chest, = ת ב ה Note the syntax. Emphasizes you I have seen (are) righteous כי את ך ראיתי צדיק... before me. Grammatical note = Predicate accusative. A predicate accusative is like a predicate nominative, the difference is that a predicate accusative asserts something about another accusative rather than about the subject of the clause. Thus a predicate accusative follows another accusative, and there is an implied copulative verb between the two accusatives, equating them. A predicate accusative lacks the article and is often an adjective or a participle. The main verb of the clause is often a verb of perception, knowledge, or naming. See Williams 57b. Grammatical note = Viewpoint לפני (in the sight of, before). The preposition can indicate that something is being describes from the perspective of the לפני object of the preposition. This is also called the mental, perceptual, or referential use of.לפני See Williams 372. (7:2) 96b. beast, animal, cattle under BDB = בּ ה מ ה pure. be clean, = טהר clean, pure under BDB 373a. Root = ט הוֹר seven. Note how this text expresses seven pairs literally seven שׁבעה שׁבעה pair. Here two = (one) שׁנים 2 אישׁ ואשׁתו 1 Two manuscripts, SamPent, Syriac אלהים Septuagint adds ο θεος. 2 SamPent, Versions ונקבה. זכר This does not surprise me although אישׁ ואשׁתו is probably more original if a little anthropomorphic.

3 שׁנים (7:3) ΙΙ עוף (collective) flying creatures, fowl, insects under BDB 733b. Root = עוֹף = fly. 4 השׁמים.דכרא "male" under BDB 271a. Akk zakaru zikru. Arb dakru(n). Arm = ז כ ר pierce. = נקב female under BDB 666b. Root = נ ק ב ה Interesting. For animals אישׁ ואשׁתו but for birds ונקבה.זכר Simple variation? earth. Clear statement of purpose. Why? To keep them alive upon the לזיּות זרע (7:4) days. Simply seven rather than seven שׁבעה 565a. (denominative) Hiphil send rain, rain under BDB = מטר Hebrew. Once again note syntax for cardinal numbers in Biblical ארבעים יום Literally forty day. cancel, wipe, wipe out under BDB 562a. Arb maḥā efface, erase, = מחה obliterate. Arm מ ח א (I) compare Ph למחת to stroke = exactly..קום substance, existence under BDB 879b. Root = י קוּם 2? Looking back to creation account in Genesis?ארץ rather than אדמה Why האדמה (7:5) suffix. 3ms + 3ms צוה Note form Piel צוהו???. שׁנים Perhaps insert with SamPent, Septuagint, Syriac, Vulgate 3. וטהור Insert with SamPent, Septuagint 4

Very Priestly statement. People do what Yhwh ויעשׂ... ככל אשׁר צוהו יהוה commands. (7:11) year. Note syntax. Literally in year of six six-hundreds בשׁנת שׁשׁ מאות שׁנה 5 שׁשׁ 294a. new moon, month under BDB = ח ד שׁ Again note syntax. From 3-10 grammatical gender is opposite that בשׁבעה עשׂר יום of the noun. "cleave, break open or through", Niphal be cleft, rent open under BDB = בקע.בקע 131b. Arm 745b. spring under BDB = מ ע י ן = תהם deep, sea, abyss (almost always poetry) under BDB 1062b. Root = ת הוֹם Akk tiāmtu and others? wait. lie in = ארב "lattice, window, sluice under BDB 70b. Root = א ר בּ ה Interesting way to describe what holds the waters in the sky. Grammatical note = Eleventh and higher. Unlike for first through tenth Hebrew does not have any distinct words for higher ordinal numbers. Instead it uses the cardinal numbers for the ordinal numbers eleventh and higher. See Williams 99. (7:12) 177b. rain, shower under BDB = ג שׁ ם (7:13) 782b. bone, substance, self; same under BDB = ע צ ם 5 Read with SamPent. השׁשׁ Difference in syntax?

An example of what is called a heteroclitic paradigm. In.א שּׁ ה plural construct נשׁי which the masculine, masculine plural, feminine, feminine plural forms of man, woman all come from different roots. 6 אתם Grammatical note = Three through ten. The numbers three through ten are nouns with masculine and feminine forms. They are spelled in such a way that they look like they are of the opposite gender of what they count. In other words, when counting a masculine noun, the number is spelled with a feminine suffix, whereas when counting a feminine noun, the number is spelled without a suffix (as is typical for the spelling of masculine words). This is sometimes called chiastic concord. See Williams 95b. (7:14) (meaning dubious). Takes us = מין kind, species under BDB 568a. Root = מ ין back to Genesis 1. Rare. creeping things, moving things under BDB 943a. = ר מ שׂ now. bird under BDB 861b. Common noun. Learn it = צ פּוֹר 489a. wing, extremity under BDB = כ נ ף 7 כל צפור כל כנף (7:15) Interesting. They come to Noah as if he is their master. And/or represents their lord who created them. Grammatical note = Distributive repetition. See Williams 15. See Williams 100. So שׁנים שׁנים two (by) two. See also Richard Wright, Linguistic Evidence 6 Septuagint, Syriac U, Targum Jonathan singular suffix read. אתּו So shifts the emphasis to Noah as opposed to his entire household? Why? 7 Septuagint omits, delete.

48-52 although it is not clear if the examples of quivis construction here are part of that discussion. (7:16) Piel or סגר prison. Ph מסגרת Zinj.ס ג ר shut, close under BDB 688b. Arb = סגר Hiphil deliver over. be = בעד "away from, behind, about, on behalf of" under BDB 126a. Root = ב ע ד remote, distant, change, different. Arb ba(du = after (of time).
