Mr. Joe Wientge Rev. Mr. Tom Mulvihill Business Manager: Barb Schlanger A NEW WEEK FR. JOHN VIEN For about the past two years, the Archdiocese of St. Louis, under the auspices of the Roman Catholic Foundation of Eastern Missouri, has been conducting Beyond Sunday, a Capital Campaign for the future of our schools and parishes. The Campaign has been rolled out in every parish in the Archdiocese, with every parishioner invited to consider a sacrificial pledge toward this important effort. The entire campaign has a goal of $100 million, with over $96 million already pledged! Now it is time for all parishioners of MQP to pledge to support Beyond Sunday! The moneys raised in Beyond Sunday will be invested and used to support our Archdiocesan schools. First and foremost, Beyond Sunday will provide scholarships to middle-income families so that their children can more affordably attend our Catholic grade schools and high schools. There are many scholarships available for lower-income families, but Beyond Sunday will allow many more families to afford Catholic schools, including, I hope, many here at Mary Queen of Peace School. These scholarships have been available this past year, and families of MQP have received scholarships, four for grade school and two for high school. The application process for next school year just ended, and I hope that many more MQP families will benefit from Beyond Sunday in the school year to come. Secretary: Madeline Kohr Website: Chandra Tripp Music Director: Marc Strathman Pastoral Associate: Mary Ann Zimmerman Administrative Assistant Heather O Keefe MQP School & PSR 314-961-2891 FAX: 314--961-7469 Principal: Mrs. Amy Schroff Parish School of Religion Mrs. Donna Maurer Youth Ministry: Angela Fiordelisi Liturgy of the Word for Children: Denise Watkins Alicia Albus Parish Council: Peg Abeln Stewardship: Tim Brown Finance: Eric Scott Home & School: Becky Lane Board of Education Jan Schuster Athletics: Ryan Moore Page 2 Beyond Sunday will also provide grants to schools for innovative projects that will help us to compete with other public and private schools to offer excellence in education. Beyond Sunday will specifically focus on helping to fund innovative projects and classes in STREAM education, that is, programs emphasizing Science, Technology, Religion, Engineering, the Arts, and Mathematics. Of course our parish school will be eligible to apply for these grants, and I hope we do so in future years. But Beyond Sunday is not just to benefit our schools, but also to benefit our parishes. Of all the money pledged or raised in a parish, 60% goes to the Archdiocese and 40% is returned to the parish. Earlier this year, our Parish Council and Parish Staff and Campaign Committee helped me discern and decide how to use the 40% that will come back to MQP. We will use that money for scholarships for our own MQP parish families and students who are in need, so that our school can thrive and grow. We will also use that money for capital repairs and to fund our parish ministries and programs. As you know, we have had a budget deficit for too many years, so this added parish income will go a long way to help secure our immediate and long-term financial future. Since last summer, a dedicated group of parishioners have been assisting me as the Beyond Sunday Campaign Committee here at MQP. I m grateful to Tony Floretta, Mike & Denise Skelton, Tom & Mary Grassi, Pat & Lisa Mooney, and Heather O Keefe, who have worked tirelessly and helped me spread the message about Beyond Sunday to many in our parish family. We have reached out to many parishioners so far, and I am happy to report that our parishioners have pledged nearly $700,000 to this important endeavor. Still, our parish goal is $2.2 million, which is still a long way off! Next weekend, all our parishioners will have the opportunity to make a pledge to Beyond Sunday. Pledge cards will be provided to everyone during our weekend Masses, and I will prayerfully lead our parish family through filling out the cards and making their pledges. A one-time gift is good, but a pledge made over the course of three to five years is even better, increasing your gift to our schools and parish. This week, as part of your Lenten prayer, ask God how generous you can be to this Campaign. Consider your own finances and abilities and trust that God is never outdone in generosity. Thanks to all who will make a pledge to Beyond Sunday, for the future of our schools and parish, helping us pass on the faith to the generations coming after us!

From March 30 to April 2, MQP is hosting an ACTS retreat for women. All women who may benefit from a spiritual renewal, including non-parishioners & women who have been on this retreat before, are welcome. Registration forms are on the website or at the church doors. Please call Mary Brummell at 962-4697 for more information. FORTY DAYS FOR LIFE This Lent, would you consider testifying to the sanctity of life by prayerfully & peacefully standing outside of the Planned Parenthood Abortion facility? On March 30, from 7:00am to 1:00pm, Mary Queen of Peace Parish will be present on behalf of those without a voice, as part of the semi-annual Forty Days for Life Campaign. DEACON DIAPER DRIVE Next weekend, April 1-2, the Permanent Deacons in the Archdiocese of St. Louis, in conjunction with the Respect Life Office, will be collecting diapers for infants, toddlers, and adults as part of our 2nd annual diocesan-wide Pro Life service project to assist families in need. Last year we collected over 125 thousand diapers for those in need and we d like to exceed that total this year. Donations of diapers should be brought to church and placed at the side altar where the Giving Tree is located during Advent. All diapers collected will be donated to assist families in our parish community through our St. Vincent de Paul Society. For more information, please speak to one of our permanent deacons, Rev. Mr. Joe Wientge or Rev. Mr. Tom Mulvihill. We ask you to pray for the success of this project and to please be as generous as possible. Mass - 5PM; Life Night 6-7:30PM in the Lubeley Room (2nd & 4th week of month) MQP MIDDLE SCHOOL The evening of Tuesday, February 7, was an exciting night for MQP Middle School parents and teachers. The first annual Middle School Parent Information Night was held in the church where parents of 4th and 5th grade students were invited to come and learn about the many wonderful things happening on the third floor of our school. Mrs. Schroff and each classroom teacher and special teacher stood before the parents and shared the curriculum and activities they use throughout the year for 6th, 7th and 8th grades. Parents loved the evening. I just love how creative the teachers have gotten to make school fun and interesting. I walked away from the meeting feeling that each teacher truly does love what they do and enjoy working at MQP. Thank you, Mary Queen, for providing our students with a first-class education and a road to a spirit-filled life. Please join us for an info session about wills, trusts, and more on Monday, March 27, 7pm, in the Msgr. Lubeley Rm. Alicia Albus, an associate attorney with the firm of Martha C. Brown and Associates, will be our speaker. Alicia graduated from the Univ. of Missouri, Columbia School of Law and specializes in ElderCare. This event is hosted by the 50+ Group but all are invited to attend. Alicia s wealth of knowledge is something we can all benefit from. Page 4 MONDAY, March 27, 2017 -- 8:00 A.M. Servers: G.
