Good News from St. Pius X/St. Leo School Hello St. Pius X / St. Leo Community members, Happy St. Patrick s Day and we hope you are all having a wonderful Lenten season! We have had another very fun, faithfilled week here at school and I always look forward to sharing in all of our students successes and all of the fun things happening around school. This week, we will be having our 1st and 3rd grade musical, which is titled Off Their Rockers As always, our music teachers, Mrs. English and Mrs. Drvol do a fantastic job preparing our 1st and 3rd grade students. Additionally, I am so impressed by the musical talents of our 1st and 3rd grade students and also our 7th and 8th grade show choir members who will be performing songs from The Greatest Showman.. I am always left amazed by how wonderful our music and arts educational programs are here at St. Pius X / St. Leo. Additionally, we found out recently that Ruby Cunningham, one of our 7th graders, won first place in the Letters About Literature writing contest. This contest is sponsored by the Library of Congress. As part of our 7th grade literature classes, all students are required to choose a book that has affected them in some way. The students then write a reflective letter to the author about how the book affected their lives. Next, those letters are sent to the national judging committee first. That committee sends the best ones back to the state committee to select the state winners. In the past, the state judges have been English professors at different Nebraska universities and high school English teachers from various schools. The winners and runners-up in each category (4-6, 7-8, 9-12) are then recognized by Governor Ricketts during a proclamation signing and then at a luncheon in Lincoln. Their letters are archived in the Nebraska authors room at the library in Lincoln. We are so proud of all of our students who wrote their letters for this competition and congratulations to Ruby Cunningham for winning first-place! Congratulations also to our 7th grade teachers, especially Mrs. Linda Rix as this is St. Pius X / St. Leo school s fifth first place winner in seven years! Thank you for all your support and God bless you the rest of this Lenten season. Cory Sepich, Principal St. Pius X/St. Leo School If you have children in grades Pre-Kindergarten (3-year-old program has a waiting list.) 4 year olds to Grade 8 that you are thinking about sending to our school for the next school year, please call our school office at 402-551-6667 to set up a time to come and visit, and, then register your child/ren when you decide to come to our school. In Pursuit of Life, Love and Happiness By: Deacon Jim Shipman In today s Gospel we hear the story of Jesus transfiguration. Can you imagine what emotions the three disciples experienced as they saw the man they had followed for three years suddenly appear in his divine presence? We read this scripture to remind us that Jesus is the Son of God and He is calling to transform our lives to be holy as He is Holy. One sentence should jump out at us in this Gospel is; This is my chosen Son; listen to him. The Apostles really did not get this until after His resurrection. But Holy Spirit transformed them totally at Pentecost and they never looked back. Lent is an opportunity for us to be transformed, to experience the presence of God, and to let our heart listen to Jesus.. As believers in Christ, the gifts of the Holy Spirit are there for us to open and use. If we give our hearts to Jesus, and allow His Spirit to transform us we too will never look back. God wants us to enter into a covenant relationship with Him, just as he did with Abram. Jesus Christ gave us a second chance in the new covenant in which we participate when we receive the Eucharist. By our faith and belief in Jesus as our Lord and Savior we are transformed into a new creation. St. Paul reminds us what will happen if we don t follow the example set by Jesus Christ: For many conduct themselves as enemies of the cross of Christ. Their end is destruction. Their minds are occupied with earthly things. But our citizenship is in heaven, and from it we also await our savior, the Lord Jesus Christ. Generous individuals may unite their sufferings with the Lord s Passion for the grace of many holy vocations in our archdiocese. Now I rejoice in my sufferings for your sake, and in my flesh I am filling up what is lacking in the afflictions of Christ on behalf of his body, which is the church.
