DEACONS CORNER Calling all Disciples: Christ is calling us to Discipleship. Pope Francis is showing us how to be a Disciple of Jesus Christ. Bishop Ricken is asking us to be a Missionary Disciple. I am making a call out to all men in our parish to come and be Disciples of Christ! Come and spend some time with your brothers in Christ. The third year of That Man Is Y ou is beginning on September 13 th. Come and take a hard look at the realities of how the modern culture affects men as leaders of our family. Find out ways to set your mind on the things above. This next year of That Man Is Y ou is entitled Revelation of the Father and it seeks to transform men in their relationship with their children. It sets forth the vision of a child capable of making moral decisions in light of significant pressures and integrates the 7 Steps with Don Bosco s preventive method to help parents develop a parenting plan of life. It is for ALL fathers! If you are a father or a father-to-be. Doors open at 6 am with a light breakfast and fraternity. We begin with prayer at 6:30 and conclude at 7:30. Come join us. ~Dcn. COMMUNION ANTIPHONS PLEASE SING! What are those Communion Antiphons the cantors and scholae keep singing? These Gregorian Chants are from the Roman Missal. Each day, a scripture verse and psalm are prescribed to be read or sung at Holy Communion. Notice how they are very similar to the Responsorial Psalm? The cantor or schola sing verses, while a short refrain is sung between psalm verses. You, the congregation, are to sing the refrain that is your part! Please join us in singing these beautiful Gregorian Chants. We are singing the Mass, in union with Catholics everywhere! Basche Council 4505 at Cathedral ended in June. I feel very privileged to have lead our group as the first Grand Knight and feel a report is in order as we contemplate our 2nd membership drive. Since joining we have gained 17 new members. Along with our existing members, these men collectively achieved an impressive list of charitable projects that would be pleasing to our founder, Fr. Michael McGivney. Following is the list, not to seek accolades, but in hopes that you will find something that appeals to you enough to consider membership. List of 2016-17 Projects Knight of the Month Awards, Brat Barn, Pot Luck Get Acquainted Dinner, 40 Days for Life March, Magic Show, Food For Families, Family Fully Alive, Coats for Kids, Joe s Jobs, Election Vigil, Life Savers for Life, Keep Christ in Christmas, Sentiments for Seminarians, Metal Art Rose Founders Day Celebration, Clergy Appreciation Nite, Charity Raffle, Tootsie Rolls, Plant Sale, JFK Awards, RSVP Seminarian Grant, Memorial Mass for Deceased Members and Corpus Christi Procession. In addition our Council made monetary donations to: Catholic Education (PKD), Preble and East High Student Awards, Seminarian Support, Cathedral Parish, St. John Parish, St. Philip Parish, St. Mary of the Angels Parish, St. Thomas More School, St. John Paul II Classical School, Golden House, Relevant Radio, and Freedom House totaling over $2600 Dollars. In a short time we would like to offer you the opportunity to join us in our work for God and neighbor. As a member of our council, you will strengthen your faith and become a better Catholic, husband, and/or father. In addition you will form friendships with fellow Knights that will last a lifetime. Sincerely, ~Dave Tlachac, Immediate Past Grand Knight PRAYER CORNER The Feast of the Exaltation of the Cross is this Thursday, September 14th. Below is an ideal prayer for this day, as well as any time you are near a crucifix. Look down upon me, good and gentle Jesus, while before Your face I humbly kneel, and with burning soul pray and beseech You to fix deep in my heart lively sentiments of faith, hope, and charity, true contrition for my sins, and a firm purpose of amendment; while I contemplate with great love and tender pity Your five wounds, pondering over them within me, and calling to mind the words which, long ago, David the prophet spoke in Your own person concerning You, my Jesus They have pierced My hands and My feet, they have numbered all My bones
