Good News from St. Pius X/St. Leo School "St. Pius X / St. Leo School is a diverse community forming students in the Catholic faith to excel in academics and service to others." St. Pius X/St. Leo School Hello St. Pius X / St. Leo Community members, We hope to see many of our wonderful St. Pius X / St. Leo school community members at the annual St. Pius X / St. Leo Fundraiser this upcoming Saturday evening (October 20th) being held at the Creighton Prep High School Sullivan Center. The theme for the fundraiser is, Community of One. This is a wonderful evening that helps us support our wonderful students and faculty members. The spiritual and academic growth of our students are why we have St. Pius X / St. Leo School and this fundraiser is both a celebration of that rich tradition of helping our students reach their Godgiven potential while attending St. Pius X / St. Leo. This annual event is the main fundraising source to address the educational and capital needs of the school not covered by the operating budget. Additionally, with the theme Community of One we hope to secure much needed support for our Pre-Kindergarten through Eighth grade students that helps their spiritual and academic growths but also helps us raise funding to keep them safe so they can continue to learn in a safe environment. Part of the funds we are hoping to raise will help us vastly improve our school security systems with new security doors, cameras and key card readers to keep our students and school community safe. This summer we were blessed to have lots of improvements throughout the school because of your generous support from last year s school fundraiser donations. We hope you will join us for another wonderful evening and thank you for all your continued support for our students and staff. Doors open at 5:15 pm with a plated dinner and program beginning at 7:30pm. There is automated bidding for fundraiser items using any cell phone via text messaging. Students and families are encouraged to check out the sign-up parties, which are a fun way to get to know others in our school community. Additionally, each school family will get a hard copy booklet, but it is expected that the fundraiser booklet will also be available on the school website as well this year. If you are unable to attend, you have the option of making a monetary donation so a SPSL faculty member can attend our fundraiser. For information on how you can register, donate to the school and purchase tickets, please call the school at 402-551-6667. Thank you for all your support and Go Panthers! Cory Sepich, Principal If you have children in grades Pre-Kindergarten (3-year-old and 4-year-old programs) to Grade 8 that you are thinking about sending to our school for this school year, please call our school office at 402-551-6667 to set up a time to come and visit, and, then enroll your child/ ren when you decide to come to our school. We are blessed that our grades are filling up, but would love for you and your family to join our school family this year! Feast of All Souls Mass Every year, we celebrate a special memorial Mass for All Souls Day. This year, the Mass will be held on Friday, November 2nd, the Feast of All Souls. During this Mass, we pray for all of the faithful departed, but especially those have died in the past year. We also light a candle for each of our parishioners and loved ones who have died in the past year. We send an invitation to the families of the deceased loved ones we are aware of. If you had a death in the family in the past year and you did not receive an invitation this week in the mail to the November 2nd Mass at 7:00pm, please call the parish office at 402-397-0407 or email dina@stleo.net. We wish to include all our beloved dead in this ceremony. The PEOPLE make our parish the beautiful, colorful, vibrant community that has thrived for 40 years. Next weekend (and beyond) after all masses, help us celebrate by creating your own self portrait in 5 easy steps: 1. Pick a white 2X2 square & draw a picture of YOU. 2. Select a frame. 3. Tape the white square on your selected frame. 4. Write your name in marker on the front of the frame. 5. Place completed frame in the basket! We will then hang the portraits on our hallway walls and create a WE ARE FAMILY GALLERY in honor of St. Leo s 40th Anniversary. Thank you for being an important part of our parish family! If you are 55 or over and would like to see old friends and meet new ones and enjoy fun activities, please join our group which is made up of people from St. Pius X/ St. Leo parishes. Upcoming Events October 30 Pot Luck Luncheon at 12noon at St. Leo Bring a lunch item to share with the group. Lunch will be followed by the viewing of The Letters, a movie about St. Teresa of Calcutta. The movie is based on letters that St. Teresa wrote to her spiritual director over almost 50 years. No RSVP Needed. November 28 Bus trip to Schuyler NE to visit The St. Benedict Center Details will follow. Mark your calendars, come and join the fun! Bring along a friend! Altar Servers Needed at 12noon Mass! We have almost 3 times as many altar servers as we did 2 years ago! THAT'S AMAZING! But due to school conflicts and availabilities we have almost no families available to serve at noon Mass. PLEASE consider adding the noon Mass to your availability as a second choice and we will, as a trade off, not schedule you for Noon more than once every 8 weeks. Father would LOVE to have at least one altar server at the noon Mass every week. If all of our wonderful servers went to that Mass instead of their regular Mass only once in a while, it would be such a blessing! Please plan to attend our next Prayer Shawl meeting on October 23, 2018 at 2:00pm. All are welcome to join us! St. Pius X/St. Leo Bridge Club High Scores for September: 5,430 Ron & Connie Wolf 5,230 Herman & Ellen Weist 4,460 Maury & Pat Zach Remembering Our Little Ones, Thursday, Oct. 18, 7:00pm, St. Pius X Church 6905 Blondo Street A prayer service of consolation and hope. Anyone who has experienced miscarriage, stillbirth, newborn loss, infertility or the death of a child of any age, as well as their family members and friends, are welcome. 08 l St. Leo Catholic Church

In Pursuit of Life, Love and Happiness By: Deacon Jim Shipman A bank commercial asks us What s in your wallet, but the more important question should be What s in your heart. Today s scriptures point out to us that our personal relationship with our God should be the most important thing in our life. Our love of Jesus Christ should supersede our desire for wealth, power or prestige, In today s gospel, Jesus responds to a man s question, and to our question, what must I do to inherit eternal life? Jesus points out to the man and to us that we must obey the commandments, but also turn our lives over to Him. Our personal desires for riches and pleasures may be obstacles which prevent us from going to heaven. Our first reading in the book of Wisdom is a key answer on how to overcome our obsession with what the world offers. It begins, I prayed and prudence was given to me; I pleaded and the spirit of wisdom came to me. This passage ends with, Yet all good things together came to me in Her, that is the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is given to us at baptism and hopefully awaken at our confirmation. The Gifts of Holy Spirit, including Wisdom, help us to see God s will in our lives. We should ask the Lord each day to give us the Wisdom to follow his lead and understand His will in our lives. Allowing God s glorious gifts of the Holy Spirit to blossom with in us, help us to focus on what is really important and to set aside those obstacles which pull us away from our Lord Jesus Christ. He asks us each day, What s in your Heart. Praying the Rosary is another way of increasing vocations to the priesthood, diaconate, and religious orders. It has been written that praying the Rosary takes us to God's heart by way of Mary's heart. The laity is encouraged to support priests, religious, and deacons and those who aspire to be through the recitation of Rosaries for Vocations. Thank you to all who signed up to pray for Religious Vocations and to the Serrans who helped. The Calendar with everyone's name and date to pray has been updated and posted on the south wall of the Commons above the water fountain. Omaha, NE l 09
