CONTACT: Becky 350-4547 or becky@ringstadlaw.com Many hands make the work lighter Mission Basilica San Juan Capistrano Pennies From Heaven Pennies From Heaven Weekend will be Saturday and Sunday, October 15 and 16. The "Pennies from Heaven" donations help several Respect Life Groups in Orange County including Obria Medical Clinics (Birth Choice), Mary s Shelter, Horizon Pregnancy Clinic and other groups. This effort is one substantial way that we can promote a culture of life in our community. These donations also serve as an opportunity for parishioners to participate in formation around life issues and practical efforts to help our neighbors affected by threats to the life and dignity of the human person. This year, like last year, we will be using baby bottles to help in the collection of donations. On Saturday and Sunday October 8 and October 9, a week before Pennies from Heaven Weekend, we will pass out baby bottles (one baby bottle per family) after all the Saturday and Sunday Masses including the Spanish and Latin Masses. During the week, we are asking parishioners to put their donations of checks, cash or coins into the baby bottle and return it after all the Masses on Saturday or Sunday October 15 and 16, Pennies From Heaven Weekend. If you cannot return them at that time, they can be returned to the Parish Office or Sacristy. Please return your bottle, as we will need them for next year s program. POP CORN SALES CUB SCOUT PACK 13 Please help support our Parish Chartered Cub Scouts from Mission Basilica Pack 13 as they excitedly gear up to sell more popcorn this year! Over 70% of popcorn sales returns to local scouting; and up to 33% of sales can go directly to Pack 13 to help fund the boys being able to participate in many fun, faith, skill-building, and learning activities scheduled for them throughout the scouting year. The parents and scouts are also committed to continuing to give back to the community from their earnings again in a similar way to what was done in previous years when a total of $900.00 was generously given back to Serra s Pantry, Canine Angels and The Boys And Girls Clubs of Capistrano Valley by our Pack! Please consider stopping by our sales table after Masses this weekend and buying something or making a military or direct Pack donation of any amount of your choosing. Your help will be greatly appreciated and we thank you in advance for your contribution!

VI Mission Basilica San Juan Capistrano Dear Brothers and Sisters, We continue our reflections on the U.S. Bishops important statement, The Challenge of Forming Consciences for Faithful Citizenship. We look at the final of four principles of a Catholic Social Ethic: Solidarity is a firm and persevering determination to commit oneself to... the good of all and of each individual, because we are all really responsible for all. It is found in a commitment to the good of one s neighbor with the readiness, in the Gospel sense, to lose oneself for the sake of the other instead of exploiting him, and to serve him instead of oppressing him for one s own advantage. We are one human family, whatever our national, racial, ethnic, economic, and ideological differences. Our Catholic commitment to solidarity requires that we pursue justice, eliminate racism, end human trafficking, protect human rights, seek peace, and avoid the use of force except as a necessary last resort. In a special way, our solidarity must find expression in the preferential option for the poor and vulnerable. A moral test for society is how we treat the weakest among us the unborn, those dealing with disabilities or terminal illness, the poor, and the marginalized. In light of Catholic teaching, the bishops vigorously repeat their call for a renewed politics that focuses on moral principles, the promotion of human life and dignity, and the pursuit of the common good. Political participation in this spirit reflects not only the social teaching of our Church but the best traditions of our nation. Always forward! Msgr. He aquí su pecado. Siempre adelante! Mons.
