Dear Parishioners, The Gospel reading of today is a continuation of last Sunday s reading. We see the reaction from the people of Nazareth to the words Jesus spoke. The people could not believe that the words of the prophet Isaiah could be applied to Jesus, after all he was the carpenter s son. Their admiration turned into doubt and then into hostility. On hearing that the benefits they had rejected through lack of faith would be offered to the Gentiles, the people became hostile to him. There is a deeper reason why they were angry. It was because he showed the ugly things that lay hidden in them. Unfortunately, religion sometimes brings out the worst in people. It can make people narrower, more bigoted, and more apt to hate and kill. This kind of thing still happens today. Religion can get distorted and becomes synonymous with narrow-mindedness, smallheartedness and intolerance. Religion can also bring out the best in people. It makes people more loving and tolerant. True religion liberates the heart and the mind and fosters harmonious relationships with others! The question each of us must ask ourselves is: What does religion bring out in me? Yours Sincerely, Fr. Jose Shaji On February 16th & 17th, join your fellow parishioners for wine and cheese along with stimulating conversation following the 5:00pm Mass. The gathering will take place in Centennial Hall. Donation of $20 Requested Call 415-453-2342 to register $86,050 $79,047 Total given for 2018 This is the time of the year I remind you to think about what you must do to keep yourself well. Think about medical screenings: breast, cervical, prostate, colon, and skin cancers. If you are on blood pressure medications, have your blood pressure checked regularly. If you are a diabetic be sure your blood glucose is checked on a regular basis. Remember to get your vaccines: flu, pneumonia (the most recent vaccine) shingles (this is a newer vaccine). Make an appointment with your doctor for a wellness check-up. Ask for a thyroid test, if you haven`t had one, a Ca-125 if there is a history of ovarian cancer in your family. Ask the doctor to listen to the sides of your neck, to listen to the blood flow. It has come to my attention that many people stop their medicines when ordered for a specific time. The people give the reason, when asked why they stopped, I felt better. You Feel Better Because You Are On The MEDICINE!!!! Please do not stop medicines unless you consult your doctor; there can be problems if you just stop certain medicines. Happy Healthy New Year, God Bless, Rose PLANNING- If you are planning for a year, sow rice. If you are planning for a decade, plant trees. If you are planning for a lifetime, educate a person. --Chinese Proverb Teachings on Tap St. Anselm Church is so excited to extend an invitation to all adults 21 and up for our new monthly ministry called Teachings on Tap.
