News from the Heart Together we Grow & Rejoice Thursday, 22nd March 2018 Year 1 Faith Page Year One students have been learning about prayer during Holy Week. They have focused on the example of Jesus who was able to talk with God His Father about his feelings, fears and problems. The boys and girls have embodied the story of Jesus praying at Gethsemane in order to make a deep connection with the emotions that Jesus felt. Matthew 26:36-46 The Garden of Gethsemane 36 Then Jesus *came with them to a place called Gethsemane, and *said to His disciples, Sit here while I go over there and pray. 37 And He took with Him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, and began to be grieved and distressed. 38 Then He *said to them, My soul is deeply grieved, to the point of death; remain here and keep watch with Me. 39 And He went a little beyond them, and fell on His face and prayed, saying, My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me; yet not as I will, but as You will. 40 And He *came to the disciples and *found them sleeping, and *said to Peter, So, you men could not keep watch with Me for one hour? 41 Keep watching and praying that you may not enter into temptation; the spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak. 42 He went away again a second time and prayed, saying, My Father, if this cannot pass away unless I drink it, Your will be done. 43 Again He came and found them sleeping, for their eyes were heavy. 44 And He left them again, and went away and prayed a third time, saying the same thing once more. 45 Then He *came to the disciples and *said to them, [a] Are you still sleeping and resting? Behold, the hour is at hand and the Son of Man is being betrayed into the hands of sinners. 46 Get up, let us be going; behold, the one who betrays Me is at hand! News From the Heart Term 1 Week 8 Harmony Day Celebrations Together We Are One On Wednesday 21st March we came together in a spirit of love and friendship to think about the different cultures, languages, traditions and lifestyles that people contribute to this great country of ours. The theme for Harmony Day is Everyone Belongs. Our school has embraced this theme by working together to create a harmonious community which promotes inclusiveness, acceptance, peace and tolerance of one another. The Stage 2 students and teachers prepared our Harmony Day celebrations to coincide with their History unit of work. The level of engagement and genuine authentic learning that has taken place has been so positive to watch. Congratulations to all the Stage 2 students who worked on making sure that every aspect of our day was perfect. Despite the rain, we were able to experience the following: Celebration of Mass as a Catholic Community Procession of flags (28 countries represented plus the Aboriginal Flag, Torres Strait Islander Flag and Australian Flag that unites us all). A special thank you to Julie Owens MP Federal Member for Parramatta who generously donated the larger flags. Rotation of activities that included two language classes (thank you to Mrs Hay for leading the Hindi class and Mrs Kingsley leading the Greek class) s experienced traditional food as they made Vietnamese Rice Paper rolls (thank you to Mrs Khattar, Mrs Doumit, Mrs Ishak, Mrs El Koura, Mrs Abraham, Mrs Rizk, Mrs Nader, Mrs Elias, Mrs Rahban for food preparations) Dance lessons were held (a special thank you to Mr Otuhiva for leading the New Zealand Dance/Haka and Mrs Maroun and Mrs Boumelhem for leading the Arabic dance/ Dabkhe) s also participated in two traditional games from Africa and China (thank you to the parents who led these games, Mrs Wendy Boumelhem and Mrs Abu Ali for leading the games sessions). The day ended with a beautiful picnic lunch and a traditional costume parade. Thank you to all the parents for your support with preparing traditional costumes and for your presence and involvement in our Harmony Day celebrations. I would also like to acknowledge the contributions of Mrs Nicole Doan Tran and Mr Nicholas Stevens for their coordination of this event. It is certainly the start of many Harmony Days to come.
