Our 4 th of July picnic was a great success and well attended and all had a great time. The Jonesboro Pregnancy Clinic has been very busy lately and they feel that our distribution of over 900 door hangers is the reason. They are very thankful for our work and expressed their appreciation for our efforts. The Council worked at the Social Justice Back to School Carnival on Tuesday July 19 th. We had 6 Knights and 6 Ladies Auxiliary members helping out. Founders Hall was full of kids and parents. There were games for the kids to play and lunch for all. All the children received a backpack filled with school supplies. If you did not attend, then put it on your calendar for next year. You will enjoy the time you put into this event. One of the goals of the Council is membership and participation. If you haven t been active, change that now and become involved. The more members that support the Council, the more we can do. So come back and bring a friend. There are 2 events coming up that you can help with. The Ministry Fair on August 21 st & 22 nd and our recruiting weekend on September 17 th & 18 th. We will have a speaker at each Mass and an info table in Founders Hall. Come to both of these events. Help out at the table and bring a friend to find out more about the Knights. The same thing for the recruiting weekend. Come by and help and bring a friend, neighbor, son or grandson and introduce them to the Knights. Knightline Knights of Columbus Tara Council # 6352 News Letter August 2016 Page 2 of 9 DEPUTY GRAND KNIGHT S CORNER Brother Knights, July has flown by, as a group we worked with our community, cleaned our hall and celebrated the birth of our nation. What more could we ask from you. Well... August presents several opportunities for you as a brother knight volunteer your time. We are hosting a pancake breakfast on Aug 14th. If you are coming to mass come early or stay a little later to help in the kitchen or serve. Follow the link on our web page to volunteer your time. Or bring the family and eat breakfast. During the ministry fair I encourage you to identify your self as a Knight of Columbus. We could use help from before and just after each mass during the weekend. Every mass presents a unique opportunity for our council to recruit new members. If you have not been as active in the past as you would like take this opportunity to talk to some of our Brother Knights and Ladies Auxiliary members. Please contact our Membership Director to Volunteer your time and or follow the link on our web page. David Hinckley Deputy Grand Knight LADIES AUXILIARY PRESIDENTS CORNER Ladies, August is here with the heat and humidity but our children and grandchildren are off to school. We can still enjoy what remains of summer. Thank you to the women of the Ladies Auxiliary who worked at the Fifth Annual Back to School Carnival: Clare Evon, Nancy Paulus, Diane Schulze, Tina Knight, Melissa Langlois, and Carolyn Kula. I hope I didn t miss anyone. If so, my apologies. The installation of new officers of the Ladies Auxiliary was held on Saturday, July 23, 2016. August brings the Ministry Fair and our continued recruiting of new members. Please invite a member we have not seen in some time or better yet bring them with you to the August 2nd meeting. Birthday Happiness to: Irma Fitzgibbon 8/25 Anniversary Wishes to: Joyce Derochers 8/19/74 Florence Halloran 8/20/76 Nancy Paulus 8/30 Sincerely, Carolyn Kula President of the Ladies Auxiliary

Knightline Knights of Columbus Tara Council # 6352 News Letter August 2016 Page 3 of 9 Shocking! Outrageous! Almost beyond belief! You read about it in the newspapers, saw it on television, or on the internet. I am speaking of the deliberate murders of law enforcement officers in Baton Rouge, in Dallas, Baltimore, Chicago, New York, and other places. I am also referencing the deaths of young citizens, many of them being black Americans in Baltimore, Atlanta, Minnesota, Wisconsin, and other places; and the mass murder of young people in a night club in Florida. It is not only a breakdown of civil order and of our sense of private security, it is a tragic loss of life, and we are all the poorer for it. For some of us the news falls close to home (thankfully not yet in our neighborhood), but it is news which engages us, and stirs our emotions. Many of you have served in the armed forces, or worked as civil servants. Some of you have children or grandchildren who are involved in public safety. You are certainly concerned for their health and welfare. Part of the vision of the Knights of Columbus is the love of nation, and also fraternity, which goes beyond our brother Knights, which extends to all humankind. Hopefully all of us are rightly concerned by a love of country, and the concern for human dignity. When Pope John Paul II visited the United States, he praised Americans for their ideals of freedom, and their generosity. He did, however take us to task for navel gazing. We are at times so preoccupied with our own troubles or triumphs that we forget the rest of the world. Let us not forget the mass murder of people in Nice, Paris, Syria, and Istanbul (to name just a few troubled places). For all the rhetoric that is out there --- ALL LIVES MATTER (even the unborn)! Please, commit yourselves to using the power of prayer, especially the rosary, in defeating the powers of evil, which destroy justice, liberty, and annihilate life. Let us pray for the conversion of terrorists, and fundamentalist extremists, for those who insult God by saying that they honor His name through hurting others. Our Supreme Knight recently sent out an excellent e-mail asking us to join in a novena of prayer. At minimum, say one prayer each day for nine days, in the intention of peace and justice. The suggested prayer to be prayed is The Peace Prayer of Saint Francis. Peace to all of you, with liberty and justice for all! Friar Paul

The 40 Days of Life campaign will be starting soon and the Knights will be supporting this pro life event. The abortion clinic in Forest Park will be the target again this year. We need the help of all- parents and children to stand in quiet protest at this clinic. More info will be coming out soon. This is not just a Knight event, but all organizations in the parish will be asked to participate. We will let you know the specifics as soon as we have them. Plan your calendars to be able to help on our assigned days. Something you can support that takes none of your time and none of your money. We all use Amazon. Amazon has a program to support charities. The prices are the same as is the selection. The only difference is that you go to smile.amazon.com. The first time you go there you will be asked to select a charity. Please select Knights of Columbus Charities of Georgia. This is a one time selection and from then on, any purchase you will make using smile.amazon.com will get a donation from Amazon. If you have an existing Amazon account, it will automatically go to your account. Any wish lists, shopping cart items, registries or any other settings you have will be there as will your credit card info on file with Amazon. We can all participate in this at no cost to you and let KC Charities of Georgia pick up some dollars. Lastly but of great importance when you see a police officer, fire personnel or emergency medical person, say Thank You to them. Let them know we appreciate what they do. The climate in this country concerning hatred and killing of public servants can only lead to chaos if it continues. The job that these people have is inherently dangerous without them having to be concerned with attacks and murders by the criminal element in our society. Let them know we are aware of what they face every day and we are there to support them in any way we can. Thank You, Bob Kula Grand Knight

Knightline Knights of Columbus Tara Council # 6352 News Letter August 2016 Page 8 of 9 Fraternity and Insurance: A Life-Changing Combination One hundred and thirty-four years ago, Father Michael J. McGivney worked to protect Catholic families. Now, in 2016, Father McGivney s mission has taken on several different shapes and services, including charitable works, evangelical missions, catechetical programs and, of course, our insurance program. Together, these things form the core of the Knights of Columbus. Guided always by our fraternal principles of charity, unity, fraternity and patriotism, we are most effective when the differ- ent aspects of our organization operate in conjunction with each other. When the Knights who lead our programs work together, the results can be truly life-changing not just locally, but globally. This summer, as we embark on a new fraternal year, spend time with your field agent and general agent to coordinate your activities. Your Knights of Columbus Insurance agents are tremendous resources for you and your council. For these men, the Knights of Columbus is more than just a career, it s a vocation, and they are deeply committed to furthering Father McGivney s mission in all its facets. Ask for their help with membership drives during Sunday Masses. Seek out their assistance with various committees and fundraisers. Lean on them to help supply manpower for hands-on charitable events. Open the door and welcome them. Invite them to full participation in your council life. Remember, these men work tirelessly to serve the members in their area. Although they may not always be able to take part in each and every initiative, they want to be involved with their councils as much as possible. As a professionally trained Knights of Columbus field agent, your agent brings tremendous value to your council and to your members. He also brings with him a full product portfolio of high quality insurance products. He holds the key to the greatest fraternal benefit of all: the insurance program. The men in your council will no doubt be at various stages of life, with varying needs and varying means, but surely most of them will at some point look for life insurance protection, retirement products, disability income or long-term care insurance. When they do, why would they look anywhere besides their very own Knights of Columbus? But the truth is, many of your council s members probably don t think about our insurance business. They may have met with a field agent once or twice during their time as Knights, but they probably don t know about our current full line of products. They probably don t know about our $100 billion of life insurance in force. They probably don t know about our 40 consecutive years of receiving the highest possible rating for financial strength, A++ (Superior), from A.M. Best. They probably don t know about our being named a World s Most Ethical Company in 2014, 2015 and 2016. They may not even know of Father McGivney s vision of financial protection for Catholic families. But they should. When your members are in the market for insurance products, they have a choice. They can purchase from one of more than 1,500 life insurance companies in North America, who will do whatever they choose with their premium dollars and invest in whatever offers them the best returns, or they can purchase from their Knights of Columbus, who will invest ethically and donate generously. It s what we call The Catholic Difference. What would it mean to your members to know that the money they spend protecting their family, preserving their retirement, guarding against their disability or providing for their long-term care goes to an organization that supports the Church? To an organization that has donated more than $1.5 billion to charity in the past decade? What would it mean to your members to know that their insurance purchase will someday not only change the lives of their family, but maybe even the lives of families halfway across the world? Invite your field agent in to talk about the Catholic difference. Set up a fraternal benefits night where he can address the council on our slate of products and the benefits that they bring to Catholic families. Welcome him as a Knight. He, too, is deeply committed not only to protecting Catholic families financially, but also to standing up for the marginalized, standing up for the poor, and standing with the Church. New years are times for new resolutions. As you embark on the new 2016 fraternal year, resolve to incorporate your field agent into your council life so that your members have the opportunity to profit from our greatest fraternal benefit. Your agent, is Aaron Cole. Email: aaron.cole@kofc.org Cell: (678) 544-0775 Information pulled from http://www.kofc.org/en/news/insurance/fraternity-insurance-life-changing-combination.html
