S T. J O S E P H P A R I S H, A P P L E T O N, W I Fr Jim s Jottings Christ is Risen! Christ is truly Risen!! Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia! That s our cry today and throughout the Easter season. We cannot shout loud enough and often enough our belief in the Resurrection of our Savior Jesus Christ. Think about this! One common denominator that has run throughout our 150 years is the gift of our faith. People have come and gone. Money has been raised and spent. We ve lived through prosperity and depression. The world has been through war and peace. But year after year the parish has celebrated the life, death, and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. Just as we cry out Christ is Risen, so those early Germans cried out Heiligeis Osterzeit! May our faith continue to unite our voices as we proclaim Christ is Risen! Christ is truly Risen!! JUBILEE YEAR KICKS OFF this weekend Friends, our JUBILEE YEAR will kick off this weekend (April 2/3). Hopefully, you will have a look around at the historic artefacts and enjoy some refreshments. This weekend begins a year-long celebration of our 150 year history. A highlight of this year is our Jubilee T-shirts. They will be on sale beginning this weekend. We hope as many parishioners as possible will buy and wear these T-shirts, especially at our Jubilee events. May God bless us as we give thanks to Him for all that St Joe s has been for 150 years and will be for years to come! JUBILEE T-SHIRTS ON SALE This weekend we began selling our Jubilee T-shirts. If you didn t get one yet, they will be available in our parish office. Habitat for Humanity Thank you to some very kind and generous individuals who have helped us raise money for the building of two Habitat Homes this summer. You are a great witness to the commitment of St Joe s to providing for the homeless. Throughout the Lenten season we received gifts totaling $14,186. God reward your outstanding generosity! And thanks to all those who have volunteered to help with building the homes. Your time and participation are precious gifts. In early April our parish will be joining with 8 other Catholic parishes in Appleton to start construction. May God be praised in this outstanding effort. EASTER CANDLE thank you! Throughout the Easter season we place the Easter Candle prominently in our sanctuary. We light it at all of our liturgies and then will use it for funerals and baptisms during the year. Thank you to Kent & Annette Hovie who donated the candle in honor of Paul O. and Carol H. Gere. Please Pray For... Please pray for all our parishioners who are ill. Karla Brown & John Hallock & Dennis Captain, Please also remember our nursing home residents and shut-ins. Please remember to pray for our parishioners or family members of our parishioners who have died: Father of Heidi Potts Pancake Breakfast OOPS! We missed thanking everyone who came to our pancake breakfast in February. You helped make it a success with a profit of $1,152.68. An extra special belated thanks to Marty Graf and all the workers who gave a lot of their time and effort. God bless! BISHOP S ANNUAL APPEAL We are into this year s BAA that helps support the work of our Diocese. Thanks to everyone who has made a contribution so far. We hope that every registered parishioner will help us. If you lost the pledge form, there are some on the back radiators in church. So far 335 parishioners have contributed $65,390 towards helping us reach our target. Thanks again for your generosity and support. Donations of paper One of our parish needs is copy paper. If you know anyone who can donate such paper, we could sure use some. Thank you. Walk to Mary Saturday, May 7th - Register now to participate in the fourth annual Walk to Mary. This 21 mile walking pilgrimage, with various join in points to shorten the route, begins at the Shrine of St. Joseph at Old St. Joseph Church on the campus of St. Norbert College in De Pere, Wisconsin and concludes at the first and only authenticated Marian apparition site in North America, the Shrine of Our Lady of Good Help in Champion, Wisconsin. Please consider joining us! Funds raised by the Walk to Mary will be used to help support Catholic education. Learn more and register at www.walktomary.com! Year of Mercy bear patiently those who do us ill Pope Francis has called for an extraordinary jubilee, a Holy Year of Mercy, for the entire Church. This Year of Mercy began on Dec 8 th and will end on Nov 20, 2016. During this year, we are asked to pray and reflect on the virtue of mercy. One way to do that is by learning more about the Corporal and Spiritual Works of Mercy. There are seven spiritual works of mercy. The sixth one is to bear patiently those who do us ill. This is a very difficult work of mercy to practice. Ultimately, the ability to bear wrongs patiently is based on having such a trust in God that one leaves justice to Him and believes that any wrong inflicted on us is the Will of God and must carry some saving grace. The Psalms are a wonderful salve for understanding this and remembering Christ's words to turn the other cheek in bearing all wrongs patiently.
