St. Colman August 5, 2012 Page Two THE EIGHTEENTH SUNDAY OF ORDINARY TIME As we continue Bread of Life Discourse in gospel, we are reminded of very special presence of Jesus in Eucharist and proper respect that we should observe at celebration of Mass. THE IMPORTANCE OF MASS Can someone be a good person without coming to church on Sunday? The answer to that question is yes. A person can be kind, loving, generous, forgiving, patient, trustworthy and much more. But can someone be a good Catholic without coming to Sunday Mass? The answer to that question is absolutely not! A person cannot be a good Catholic without joining his or her fellow Christians at Sunday Mass, For Christianity is not primarily about being kind, loving, generous, etc. - - though, of course a Christian should be those things. Christianity is not just about being nice. Christianity is about following a person. Christianity is about a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. The way we come in contact with Jesus Christ is through his church, especially when church gars for celebration of Sunday Mass. Sunday is day Lord rose from dead. Sunday is day he most often appeared to his disciples. Sunday is day Lord comes to be with us in a powerful way as we gar for Mass. As late Pope John Paul II wrote, It is crucially important that all faithful should be convinced that y cannot live faith or share fully in life of Christian community unless y take part regularly in Sunday Eucharistic assembly. The Mass is essential for our Christian life; without it our faith wirs and dies. As a great writer put it, The devil dances for joy when a Catholic stops going to Mass. FEAST OF THE ASSUMPTION Wednesday, August 15th is Feast of Assumption of Blessed Virgin Mary, a Holyday of Obligation for all Catholics. Masses will be offered on Tuesday, August 14th at 6, Wednesday, August 15th at 8:30am, Noon and 7. Join faithful in honoring our Lady on this feast.
