HELP WANTED: Aerie and Auxiliary members to help cook, clean, and plan events. Some experience necessary, but will train the right candidate. These are volunteer positions, and your pay will be given in smiles and thanks. Please see an Aerie or Auxiliary officer for more information. Challenge: Our Aerie and Auxiliary are in desperate need of some new members. I would like to make a challenge. If any member sponsors more than one new candidate that gets initiated by the end of the year I will personally buy them a drink out of my own pocket. And, more importantly you can have bragging rights about bringing new people in. ----- Joe / W.P. I found "Open Office" by Apache and it works just fine for the things I do. Writing, Formatting text, save as.doc, spreadsheets, (I don't use that very often) and it reads almost all Word documents. And it s free! Just go to www.openoffice.org. August 2013: Downloads of Apache OpenOffice have now exceed 60 million. Richard Wise Information needed: We want to get some landscaping estimates and ideas for the back yard. If any of you members know of a landscaping professional please pass on their information to one of the Aerie officers. We would like to start getting some ideas as soon as possible so we can possibly plant a tree or two before winter hits. Any info would be appreciated. Aerie Trustees This newsletter is your newsletter: I am all the time getting good suggestions from our great members in the social room. Please do not hesitate to write these ideas down and submit them to the editor for publication. djatencio@thorntoneagles.com Or better yet, please plan on attending a meeting to discuss any and all ideas you may have. There is no way we can have too much participation.
Worthy President s Letter Hello my Brothers and Sisters, Joe Atencio Where did my beloved summer go too? Even as hot as it was it seems to have flown by Like it or not, autumn is among us. Does anybody know what the difference between fall and autumn is? (3885158) I think I will try to post some fall pictures in the next newsletter. There is something magical about the turning of the fall colors. If anybody would like to submit any photos for publication please e-mail them to me as soon as you can. Who knows, maybe if we get enough we can make a picture contest out of it. The club once again has some terrific plans for the upcoming month. One function I would like to urge all members to try to attend the benefit the Brother Ted has worked his butt off for. The benefit will be to raise money for the instate flood devastation that has occurred Remember out credo People Helping People. Please see the flyer and plan on attending October 12 th. I am once again reaching out to all members for even more support. The Aerie is still without a Worthy Vice President. This is a like a black eye to our Aerie. I know we have some dedicated people out there that can commit a few hours a week to help us fill our chairs. I would hate to go into Spring Conference or Convention and have to report to our State folks that the Thornton Aerie, the same Aerie that has recently twice been named Aerie of the Year, cannot find a WVP. Help me out here Brothers. I have been researching our membership dues for the year. By my calculations we still have approximately 35 members that did not renew their dues this year so were dropped from our roster. This basically counts as a negative towards our membership goals. For example: 12 new members is our quota this year. So if we reach our quota of 12, but lose 35 members for lack of dues payment our net gain is -23. This is a very bad mark on us. If you know of any member out there that may have forgotten, please mention it to them. Or if you know of any member that truly wants to be active but is financially unable to pay please bring it discreetly to the attention of an officer. We might be able to do something about it. For you fellow sports fans. Goodbye to the Toddfather of Rockies baseball. Todd Helton gave Colorado his best 17 years. In this day and age, that is unheard of. I will personally miss his play and wish him the best of luck. We would like to encourage any and all member to join us for the Bronco s games pot luck gatherings. This is a pot luck event so please try to bring a covered dish to share. Or, donate a buck or two. This money will go towards a big super bowl party. Thank you all and God Bless, Joe Atencio Worthy President Thornton Eagles Aerie #3226
Madam President s Letter Mary Dewey Dear Sisters and Brothers, What if you gave a party and only a few people showed up? How would you feel? What if you cooked a dinner and asked your friends to bring a side dish, but they didn t? Yet they invited friends over, everyone ate, and no one offered to do the dishes. Sad, huh? Why did you join the Eagles? Was it to be part of the community, to be involved, to help others? Are you doing all you can to be a good member? Please take a few moments to think about the above. I know many of you have busy lives, but can you give a few hours a month to help out? Our events don t happen by themselves. We cook, clean, and organize so you can have a good time. Please see an Aerie or Auxiliary officer if you can give us a bit of your time each month, or every other month. I want to thank ALL the ladies auxiliary officers for coming to the kitchen cleaning party on the 17 th. Every officer attended, and we did some major cleaning and organizing. Thank you also to members Davida Romero, President Joe Atencio, Phil Vallejos, Bernie & Gladys Montoya, new members Edna Cordova, Lorenza Smith and Lorenza s friend who I apologize that I forgot her name. It was a lot of dirty work, but when you have a team you can get a lot done in a short amount of time. Please attend the upcoming dinner prepared by Barb and Phil Vallejos. It will be on Saturday, October 12 th. The money raised will go toward the children s Christmas party. Thank you to all that give because it feels goods in your heart. (4350912) Fraternally yours, Mary Dewey Madam President presidentmary@comcast.net How can we expect our children to know and experience the joy of giving unless we teach them that the greater pleasure in life lies in the art of giving rather than receiving? Trustees Voice Chaplain s Corner Hello all, Hoping all is well with you and yours. Things are going pretty good at our Aerie home. Our new patio has been poured and looks great. The only thing is with our new patios we have less grass area for water to be absorbed and with the recent rain we had a small pond going on for a while. But we are working on getting a landscaper in to take care of our drainage problem. Hopefully that will be taken care of soon. I would also like to mention that if you have a specific skill or would just like to help out with minor maintenance and upkeep of our club your help is always welcome. You don t have to be a trustee or an officer to help keep our Aerie home in good shape. If you are interested in getting information on how to get free Christmas gifts for children that may otherwise be without I will be having a meeting on Sunday October 27 th at 1:30 sharp downstairs at the club. By getting started on time it should only take about ½ an hour. This will be a onetime offer and applications are limited so please be there if interested. Also, we will be giving and delivering free cooked and individually packaged Thanksgiving dinners to those in need on Thanksgiving Day. Please watch for more details to come. We can use help delivering them too. I am the Chair person for our New Years Eve Party committee. If you are interested in being on this committee please contact me. We will be having our first meeting soon. 303-657- 0861, tchavez@thorntoneagles.com Ted and trustees Psalm 75 This is an October Prayer 1: Unto thee, O God, do we give thanks, unto thee do we give thanks: for that thy name is near thy wondrous works declare. 2: When I shall receive the congregation I will judge uprightly. 3: The earth and all the inhabitants thereof are dissolved: I bear up the pillars of it. Selah. 4: I said unto the fools, Deal not foolishly: and to the wicked, Lift not up the horn: 5: Lift not up your horn on high: speak not with a stiff neck. 6: For promotion cometh neither from the east, nor from the west, nor from the south. 7: But God is the judge: he putteth down one, and setteth up another. 8: For in the hand of the LORD there is a cup, and the wine is red; it is full of mixture; and he poureth out of the same: but the dregs thereof, all the wicked of the earth shall wring them out, and drink them. 9: But I will declare for ever; I will sing praises to the God of Jacob. 10: All the horns of the wicked also will I cut off; but the horns of the righteous shall be exalted. Yours Fraternally, Richard Wise Chaplin - Thornton Eagles 3226 Bartenders Banter Thank you all for your support that you provided us throughout the month. It is greatly appreciated. Please feel free to tell us what we might be doing wrong so we can fix it. And more importantly what we are doing right so we continue to do so.
