Suffolk Chapter Light Knights of Columbus Vol. 17 No. 5 SUFFOLK CHAPTER NEWS November 2017 From the Chapter Chairman s Desk Brothers, The months of November and December are The Holidays, where we celebrate with friends and family all the gifts that God extends to all of us. In the October message I asked you to collect money at your Councils and Assemblies for our Brothers and Sisters in Houston, Florida, and Mexico and send it to the State Office. The Chapter has collected nearly $500 at the last two meetings and will continue to do so at future meetings. This money will go strictly to K of C families. Please send your contributions to the State Office. I also remind you of the two important events for November: The Bishops mass and Installation of Officers of Chapter and Columbiettes on November 5 th at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Patchogue. Mass will be celebrated by Bishop Brennen at 11:30 AM, Followed by a repast at Patchogue Council. November 10 th is Knight of the Year and Chaplains Night. Please notify Norman Wagner if you will be bringing your Chaplain. At this writing (October 18th), we have only two Chaplains coming. Are you not interested in honoring your Chaplains? And November 23 rd is Turkey Day with family and friends. Give thanks for all your blessings, but remember those less fortunate. The next meeting is on November 10 th at Fr. Thomas A. "Rest is not idleness, and to lie sometimes on the grass on a summer day listening to the murmur of water, or watching the clouds float across the sky, is hardly a waste of time." John Lubbock In 1954, lobbying by the Order of the Knights of Columbus helped convince the U.S. Congress to add the phrase "under God" to the Pledge of Allegiance. President Dwight Eisenhower wrote to Supreme Knight Luke E. Hart thanking the Knights for their "part in the movement to have the words 'under God' added to our Pledge of Allegiance." I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. http://suffolkchapterkofc.net/ Have you had a chance to visit the new web site? Chaplains Appreciation Night As announced at the August Chapter Meeting, Chaplains Appreciation Night has been re-scheduled to the November 10 Chapter Meeting. This Meeting will be held at Father Judge Council #6893, East Northport. It will be held in conjunction with the "Knight of the Year" Recognition. Our Chaplains are an integral and important part of our councils and our Order providing spiritual guidance and counsel. Each and every one of them deserves recognition. That evening we will publicly recognize and present them with a gift. It is hoped that every council s Chaplain will be able to attend. Grand Knights are urged to invite their Chaplains and either e-mail or call me confirming their attendance. My e-mail address is nawagner@aol.com; my home telephone is 631-234-1922. Please be certain to include your council s name. Together we will make this evening a tremendous success. Thank you in advance for your help. Vivat Jesus! Norman A. Charity Makes the Difference TIME SENSITIVE MAIL PLEASE EXPEDITE Prayer for the Canonization of Father Michael J. McGivney God, our Father, protector of the poor and defender of the widow and orphan, you called your priest, Father Michael J. McGivney, to be an apostle of Christian family life and to lead the young to the generous service of their neighbor. Through the example of his life and virtue may we follow your Son, Jesus Christ, more closely, fulfilling his commandment of charity and building up his Body which is the Church. Let the inspiration of your servant prompt us to greater confidence in your love so that we may continue his work of caring for the needy and the outcast. We humbly ask that you glorify your servant Father Michael J. McGivney on earth according to the design of your holy will. Through his intercession, grant the favor I now present (here make your request). Through Christ our Lord. Amen. Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory be to the Father.
