A message from our Grand Knight My Brother Knights and families, November is a time of remembrance. We remember our family and friends that have gone to their eternal reward in Heaven on All Souls Day, all of our Saints on All Saints Day. We remember those who paid the ultimate sacrifice defending our country and our freedom on November 11. This year marks the 100th anniversary of the Armistice. One century ago, The War to End All Wars (World War I) had a truce called. On the 11th Hour of the 11 Day of the 11th Month, we will remember them. We will remember and honour our own deceased Brothers on Sunday, November 18 at 8:30 Mass. Please come out and pay tribute to them. These Brother Knights dedicated many hours to making our Council what it is today, and we will honour them. There will be a breakfast and fellowship in the Hall following Mass. All are invited. I want to thank everyone who has been involved in any way in our Council since I have become Grand Knight. It is because of you that our Council is tops in Ontario. We have lots of ideas to keep our members and families involved. If you have any, please contact either myself or DGK Peter Youngson. There is lots going on over the next several months. Please read the newsletters, follow us on Facebook and check your emails. Vivat Jesus! A message from our Chaplain Dear Brother Knights, I have always thought it takes great conviction to be an atheist without belief in a God or an eternal destiny to follow this life. It seems to me that most atheists don't accept the radical consequences of their belief. It would mean that this life has not ultimate meaning if it simply ends in the grave. At best, one's legacy can be carried on in the memory of others for as long as they remember or as long as there is a human civilization in existence. The other factor is that morality would have little in the way of a foundation if there was no accountability at the end of this life. Morality might be seen as some kind of social glue but why should everyone abide by any moral code if one can get away with being immoral? Also, evil can be punished but what moral right doe we have in punishing wrong doing if moral codes are simply human inventions and don't hold for every society? Just a thought for All Saints and All Souls Day along with this little story: A man was seated on an airplane next to a priest. He asked the priest, Do you believe in eternal life? Before the priest got a chance to reply, the man launched into a tirade: It's all rubbish! I believe in science, evolution, survival of the fittest and when we die, that's it! No eternal life, no judgement, and no God! Eternal life! Ha! I'll be buried six feet under when I die, and that's it! Nothing! When I die, I am utterly convinced that will be the end of me! Well thank God for that, the priest said with a smile. May God keep you and your families always in His care, Sincerely, Fr. Dave 4
Prayer for Vocations O Holy Spirit, Spirit of wisdom and divine love, impart Your knowledge, understanding, and counsel to youth that they may know the vocation wherein they can best serve God. Give them courage and strength to follow God s holy will. Guide their uncertain steps, strengthen their resolutions, shield their chastity, fashion their minds, conquer their hearts, and lead them to the vineyards where they will labor in God s holy service. A message from our Director of Vocations and Seminarians Vocation Awareness Week Vocation Awareness Week, November 4-10, 2018, is an opportunity for all parishes and schools to raise awareness that we all have a unique purpose, given to us by God our creator and we must all seek after that vocation with great zeal. In particular, we want to pray for all those discerning the priesthood, permanent diaconate, consecrated life, sacrament of marriage and dedicated single life. On our Vocations Awareness Week page, you will find a suggested bulletin announcement and daily prayers highlighting the different vocations that can be posted to the parish website, social media outlets or used for daily prayer. Also attached are age appropriate lesson plans for grade school students. Please access these resources by visiting our Vocation Awareness Week page at https://dol. ca/vocation-awareness-week. If you have any questions please contact Fr. Patrick Beneteau, Director of Vocations and Seminarians, at vocations@dol.ca. Vivat Jesus! Fr. Patrick Beneteau
