Our Gala, Shanghai Knights, was a great success. We had good attendance, great food, good music and generous live auction bidders, helping us the raise significant funds to continue our support of our various charities. Easter was a special time, as it usually is, both spiritually and corporally. Many of our fourth degree sir knights participated in the Easter Celebrations at three different churches. Many of us also participated in a very successful Easter food distribution in Fayette County, feeding more than 150 families. On April 11, at The Birthright Ball, Brother and Past Grand Knight Scott Hamblin and his wife Roberta were honored with The Peter Drott Friends for Life award, in recognition of the tremendous service to Birthright. We awarded medals to the confirmation class. We also voted additional financial support to our senior high youth group to assist with their Catholic Heart Work Camp trip in June. Our council is scheduled to host a third degree at Our Lady of Perpetual Help on Monday evening, April 27. We invite our second degree brothers to participate and our third degree bothers to observe. In May we begin with the Knights of Columbus State Convention is Cool Springs, during which we will vote on various matters and receive recognition for many of our activities. We will also honor brothers who have passed in the last year. On May 9, we have two activities. We begin the day making and serving lunch to the postal workers at the Germantown Post Office as they return with the food they have collected for the food bank. We could use some help with this effort. Then in the evening of the ninth, we have our famous Italian Knight social, with great food, fellowship, awards for the female and male youth of the year and recognition of our officers and program directors for their work throughout the fraternal year. Please keep in mind that there is a Rosary for healing every Thursday evening, in the chapel, led by Brother Jim Jacobs with a number of brother knights participating. Also we are fortunate to have Eucharistic Adoration on each first Friday, in the chapel, and can usually use a few more Catholics to participate and spend some quality time with our Lord. We look forward to seeing you at our upcoming events. One Year Trustee Robert B Tragarz Two Year Trustee Christopher D Cambre Vivat Jesus! Church Our Council supplies the Communion, Reconciliation, and Confirmation Certificates to our parish. They are passed out by Brother Knights every year. We also pass out Holy Trinity medals to all the Confirmation Class each Year. FOURTY.WASTED HAVE YOU??... EVER WONDERED ABOUT THE MEANING OF PRAYER OR REPENTANCE OR FASTING AND FINALLY WHY FOURTY?? Generally, when Mass lasts longer than 40 minutes we are edgy and ready to hit the door even if the celebrant is unfinished. We forget he is not just Father Holy Holy but he is persona Christi. One priest made the comment You are going to hell if you leave Mass early. Not really, what he meant was you have a pattern that minimizes God in your daily life and which maximizes SELF. (Self love) IS 4O MINUTES ALL WE CAN GIVE GOD IN A WEEK?? Maybe an eternity with God might not be to your liking either. Maybe we should meditate on that. Why did I begin with Mass? It is the highest form of prayer but it is not in the Bible Some of our friends might say. Well Mass is the Holy Bible condensed to forty minutes. In the Bible, we have Jesus instructions His words His payer His presence His Meal God coming to be with his people.all his people.worship is not just some entertaining music Not just some inspiring words But the God-Man himself lies hidden in the Mass in simple earthly things Bread and Wine How humble of Jesus yet so proud are we to depart early are we wasting the precious moments to beat the traffic to go to some other place? What is prayer.? Is Prayer simply Memorized formulas? Can it be something that those words are teaching us?..., In reality, it is talking to God and recognizing we are in His presence Seeing Him in our daily lives Reflecting on Jesus life and words in our physical world.transporting our spirit back to events on the dusty roads and streets of long ago Israel St Paul says to pray always. The Christian Brothers begin their Prayers Let us Remember we are in the Holy Presence of God Have we allowed ourselves the thought of God s presence at Mass and are we caring it with us the rest of the week. The beauty of Lent s 40 days is to allow us to focus on repentance I have a hard time with that word. Jesus said repent and be saved. Does it mean no candy in lent or something else? When you examine the Sermon on the Mount, the window opens to an understanding of God s kindness to us. God s desire us to share His kindness with our fellow men. You must decide how you might fulfill God s plan. How? Like Jesus did by asking the Father with the aid of His Spirit St Paul say each of us has his unique special gifts we need to use them for the benefit of our fellow men not simply for our own net worth (Wasted Time?) It rained 40 days after Noah entered the ark. While construction of the arc was carried on, his fellow men scoffed at Noah s efforts. Noah did not waste his desire to please God. The rains came. The Ancient Jews wasted the first part of their Exodus and ended up spending 40 years in the desert. God performed many miracles for his chosen people but sadly they were not appreciative. They longed for the sins they had taken such comfort in. Jesus spent 40 days in the desert preparing for His public life. Jesus was talking to His and our Father. He did not squander the opportunity to ask the Father to prepare Him for his mission. We should spend at least 40 minutes on Sunday preparing for the week ahead. With the few weeks of Lent remaining lets us spend the time ridding ourselves of the old sins we take comfort in and preparing for the year ahead with Christ. Do not waste the opportunity. Our time is short. Have you climbed aboard Peters Ship.? Rely on the master navigator, Christ who appointed Peter and his successors the waves are getting higher. don t allow yourself to be swept overboard. God Bless Brother Bill Chiles Page 3
