Knights Challenge The monthly Shining Armor bulletin has three goals: to bring members up-to-date on council events, to encourage member participation and to respond to the call to serve and to build the Domestic Church. This is an honor for me and I will do my best to guide our council in a manner that promotes brotherhood and supports our clergy and parish. It s July and the year is flying by. For our next meeting we will be talking about the four, Faith in Action Programs. The recommended programs are Faith, Community, Family and Life. Most of these we are already implementing through our current programs. All we need is to put in four new categories. I will be setting up a meeting with all the directors of our many activities regarding these changes. So be ready to check your calendar for the month of August. For our new chancellor, Willie Douglas, thank you for stepping up. Brothers, let s help our chancellor recruit members. As I have said in the past, we don t need the numbers. So let s call our friends and family, ask them to be a member, or better yet ask them to help you volunteer at our Knights functions. Let them experience what we do and how we do it. God Bless!! Brothers, Have you ever considered what God wants from you? When you were growing up did you ever ask yourself what comes next. Did you have a plan when you graduated from high school or what you wanted to accomplish? Did you dream of becoming an engineer, a police officer, a lawyer, a fireman, or a priest? Did you ask what God wanted you to do? I would venture to speculate that some of you were pulled in the direction you find yourself today or perhaps may still be wondering what direction you should take or perhaps what vocation you should pursue. And maybe still wondering what vocation God wants you to do? Brothers, I am asking you what vocation, that is, what is your calling? Are you searching for a way of life that encompasses more than just what you do but who you are? Imagine how disheartening it may be for today s young men to decide what vocation they should pursue. Perhaps an occasional, what does God want me to do, would provide an answer to their call. The last thing one wants is a vocation that makes one miserable. So the question is, what is the missing component that gets in the way of ones call to volunteer or do you say, I do what the voices in my head tell me to do. The council provides activities for members to consider. If, in joining the council was your call, then volunteering can be a happy experience. If joining was not your calling, we understand. The last thing we want for you is to feel miserable. One can t spread the Gospel, while in despair. One might then ask the following, What would Jesus do? Rather, the question that should be asked is, What does Jesus want me to do? Perhaps, this may be a way of clarifying what activity you might consider volunteering in. So, ask yourself, What does God want me to do as a member of Council 12887? Page 4 We know that Jesus was God s messenger. He knew that to serve God was to serve all. In serving all is to serve God. As Brother Knights, we serve others with great humility and hopefully with no concern to selfish gain. Jesus gave of himself to mankind. Remember, we are God s servants. As long as we are on this Earth, it is our duty to dedicate ourselves to serve God unselfishly, for serving unselfishly, we are serving Him. The council always offers many opportunities to serve our parish and community unselfishly. Consider what being active in council activities can do for your career development and personal growth. Consider the following: 1. Volunteering is beneficial to ones health 2. Establishes strong personal relationships 3. Helps with one s spiritual growth 4. Gives a sense of purpose 5. Increases self-confidence 6. Enhance social skills 7. Gives hope to others 8. Discover new experiences 9. To help others less fortunate than you 10. To bring joy to others. 11. To see the world from a fresh perspective, through the eyes of the people you're helping 12. To learn 13. To practice generosity 14. To provide a sense of being, a reason for existence 15. To create a mind set of abundance 16. To make use of your time 17. To share your skills for the benefit of others 18. To show that you are on this planet for things other than money 19. To rise above others who live to work 20. To find out what is needed to make your community a better place (you may be shocked to find out how little is needed and how mundane and ordinary those needs are) (continued on page 9)

Bob Leach Vocation Manager s Message Page 6 Brothers, do you recall when you were invited to join our team? Do you remember if the Brother knight, who invited you shared what your responsibility would be once you were admitted into our ranks? Did he explain the following: A. Time commitment? B. Volunteering opportunities defined? C. Did he ask about your talents and how they might be used in building the council and church? If so, did you discern if they were a match to being a brother Knight? D. Were you invited to our monthly meeting to break bread with brother Knights to give you a sense of who we are? E. Was the organization explained to you? F. Was the importance of volunteering explained? G. Were the benefits of joining explained as well? The council sponsored a Parking Lot Sale on June 23, 2018. Brother Colin Cooper orchestrated the event; which turned out to be a very successful fundraiser for the council. According to Colin, participants want to have a Fall event. St. Clare Assembly will be sponsoring the Fall event. Please stay tuned for a date in October. Peace!
