Knights of Columbus - Council Courier From Our Grand Knight Greetings Brother Knights and Families, Can you believe summer is all but over? What a busy start to the new fraternal year with Diocesan Meetings, Officer Installation, District Meetings and Officer Training. Thanks to everyone who attended these functions with me. This is just another great example of everyone working together to make our council great. At our district meeting, our council was awarded the Exemplary Public Relations Award. This award is our second one in as many years. We should all be extremely proud of this award since there was very few awarded throughout the state. Thanks to everyone for their hard work on our quarterly publication of the Council Courier. Special thanks to, PGK Jay Jondro for his great work on the monthly Knights in Action articles that are published in the church and vicariate bulletins, and also DGK Mark Sobol for the awesome website that he created and maintains. And of course, none of this could be possible if it wasn t for the hard work put forth by all our officers and members. A couple months ago, I was asked if our council would like to join forces with the St. Michael s Michael s Men s Group to sit in prayer with the Blessed Sacrament on the 1 st Fridays of the month at St. Michael s. When the Blessed Sacrament is exposed, someone needs to be present at all times. The Eucharistic Adoration takes place on the 1 st Friday s of the month from 9am until the Benediction at 7pm. If you are interested in attending, here is a link to prayers and devotions of the Blessed Sacrament, www.catholic-church.org/kuwait/ eucharistic_prayers.htm. We already have a few members interested in sitting with and becoming closer to our Lord. If you are able to give an hour to our Lord, please send me an email at gk1266@mikofc.org or if you do not have access to email, please send me a note to 202 W. Front St. Monroe, MI 48161. Once I get a list, I will forward it to Mrs. Anna Perna who will do the scheduling. She will only call when someone is needed. This would be a great opportunity for family prayer time, please consider in helping serve our Lord as he is calling for us to help! Speaking of help! We are looking for a few volunteers to help set up tables and chairs for the picnic in the park on September 8 th. If you can lend a hand, please meet on the front lawn of SMCC at 9:30 am on Saturday September 8 th. We will also need help to take the tables and chairs down afterward at approx. 7:30 pm. Hope to see a few of you there. Bring your family if you wish! Believe it our not, it is time for our Coats for Kids fundraiser. Last year we were able to purchase 18 cases of coats for kids in need. My goal this year is to be able to purchase at least 20 cases and hopefully expand our charity to other schools. Gary and Bev Thoma are planning a euchre party on October 19 th to help raise funds for our CFK campaign. Watch for more info on the euchre party! If you are interested in donating to this very worthwhile cause, please visit our website www.kofcmonroe1266.com and click on the yellow donate button. Hopefully we can count on your support again this year. With all the great things our council has been doing the last few years, we are lacking in the youth category. If anyone would like to help with a youth project, please let our program director, Mark Sobol or myself know. Our Tuesday night Bingo is one of our main incomes for our council. With that said, we could definitely use some new help to sell tickets and run the floor. Since the State Lottery Commission controls the bingo, all help is entitled to a $20 stipend per each night worked. This is not for members only, bring your spouse and or family members (must be 18 years old) with you. Please let me know if you are interested and I will inform our bingo chairman. One very important item we need from all members. We need contact info, especially email addresses from everyone! It is very important we get this info so we can update the database ASAP. This was brought to our attention when we met our new insurance General Agent. He informs us that ALL K of C members and their spouses have an accidental death benefit; this is one of the main reasons we need this information. Please send me your contact info to either gk1266@mikofc.org or mail it to the council. Your cooperation would greatly be appreciated! Upcoming dates to Remember: Dec. 1, 2018 Goodfellows paper sale, Dec. 8, 2018 Clergy & PGK Appreciation Dinner and memorial mass, Feb 23, 2019 Major Degree at our council 1266 and March 16, 2019 Desert Meal Vivat Jesus, Shawn Piedmonte, Grand Knight

Knights of Columbus - Council Courier Monroe Council #1266 Knights of Columbus Goodfellows A Note From Our Chaplain In my first article as chaplain, I would like to offer a little about my story. I was born in Toledo, but grew up in Erie. St. Joseph parish in Erie is my home parish. The Burgards have been in Erie since before the Civil War. I was blessed to have a strong Catholic upbringing, which includes four of my aunts on my father s side who entered the religious life as Sisters of Notre Dame from Toledo. I worked on my relatives farm in Erie (Grodi s) beginning at eleven years old through my college years. After public school, I attended Monroe Catholic Central High School. From there I obtained my bachelor s degree from what is now Lourdes University in Sylvania, Ohio. The following fall I entered Sacred Heart Seminary, and after completing my studies was ordained a priest in 1994. I came to St. Mary in 2013. I have a long history with the Knights of Columbus. My father and grandfather were charter members of Erie Council 7413, and I have been a Knight since I was 18 years old. It is a joy to support the good works of the Knights of Columbus, whom I have also worked with in all the parishes I have been in. Thank you for all that you do out of love for God and His Church through your involvement in the Knights of Columbus. May God, through the intercession of Our Blessed Mother and Fr. Michael McGivney, our founder, continue to guide us to be joyful missionary disciples in a world that is so in need of hope, meaning, and the knowledge of our dignity as children of God. Vivat Jesus! Fr. David Burgard Corporate Communion Where: St. Mary Parish When: 9:30 a.m. Mass Please meet in back of Church so we can process in together. Social to follow in Parish Life Center Brother Knights we have been connecting with a lot of non-members of our Parishes with our monthly "Knights In Action Article". Sunday Dec 23rd - Evening Packing of the food boxes, labeling, and stacking as per routes. Monday Dec 24th Christmas Eve delivery of food boxes. Please pencil these dates into your calendar. Brother Knights = we really need younger members to step up and help us especially on the paper sale, and deliveries. Please, Please help us carry on our Mission to help those in need! Next Up - The entire elections of Goodfellow Officers lasted less than a minute when PGK Sam Liporato, made a motion to reinstate the entire staff. Sooo, all the officers are the same for 2018/19 Finally = We are going to expand Tootsie Roll Sale to include the Columbus Day weekend BUT ONLY at our Churches. I can pick you up and take you home, 734-299-6374. Let s make this 2019 a year we can say with pride I am a Lady Knight. Lady Knight President Sharon Schmelz Scrap Metal & Bottle/Can Drive The Fr. If you need to have something picked up, call; John Moskwa at 529-3039 or Gary Z. at 517-662-2755. This is a great opportunity to clean up the basement, garage, yard, or behind the barn. John Moskwa, Fin. Sec t., K. of C. #8698 jmoskwa@hotmail.com or 734-529-3039 Brother Knights, All invoices are paid up and current. We are always looking for ways to cut cost and be more efficient. I know you are aware of rising prices for supplies and utilities. The good news is we have been able to meet all our obligations thanks of course to all the active Knights and volunteers. More good news. We have just completed refinancing our mortgage for a new three year term. We were able to lower our interest rate by 1.35% which will result in an earlier payoff. Hopefully we can close our loan in a couple of years!! We are still in need of bartenders in the lounge. Maybe you can commit to one 4 hour shift per month? It's easy work and fun to interact with lounge visitors. No experience is required. We will train you. As always please submit any and all suggestions you may have that will help us improve. Please pray for all school students and staff as they begin another school year. Keep them safe. Kindly consider the Knights of Columbus Building Association when planning your will. Building Association President "Social" Euchre Night The Council "Social Euchre Nights" are the Fourth Wednesday of each month. The evening starts with "Potluck" dinner at 6 p.m. Bring a dish to pass. Euchre will start at 7 p.m. PLEASE NOTE - There will be no Socials in November or December due to the Holidays.
