Knights of Columbus Holy Rosary Council No. 4483 15 North Hickory Avenue Arlington Heights, IL 60004 (847) 255-4483 www.kofc4483.org December 2014 Charity Unity Fraternity Patriotism GRAND KNIGHT S MESSAGE From the Grand Knight.. CHARITY The first order of the Knights of Columbus. With the end of the year fast approaching, there are some Illinois Knights of Columbus charities you may wish to consider for tax deductable contributions. These charities are the Newman Center (mentioned in the November newsletter which is available on the Council website), Pro-Life, and the General Assistance Fund. Checks may be made out the Illinois K of C Charities, Inc. and mailed to or dropped off at the Hall (please address to the Grand Night and indicate which fund on the envelope). If you mail a check directly to the State Council, please enclose a brief note as to the fund contributing to and reference Holy Rosary Council 4483. Your donation is tax deductable!!! UNITY There are a number of definitions and variations of Unity. In short, we are to work in harmony together for a common goal. This goal is based on each individual s skill and ability. FRATERNITY As Knights, we are linked together as Brothers with a common purpose or interest. There are times when we may disagree with each other but human nature is what it is. In the newsletter you will find a survey regarding the Council newsletter. This newsletter is published and mailed monthly which costs the Council approximately $3,500.00 per year in printing plus postage. These costs, which increase annually, have had an adverse affect on the Council budget. Please complete the survey as to your preference in receiving the newsletter mail or electronic format. Please be aware that no response will, by default, result in a decision of I prefer to receive the newsletter electronically. In advance, Thank You for your input. The Council Officers and Trustees are the stewards of Council funds and we do our best to ensure that these funds are spent effectively and efficiently. Lucky Bucks will be mailed in the near future. The Financial Secretary will be mailing dues notices before you know it. Please respond promptly. Helene, Ellen (fiancé James), Michael, Christine, and I would like to wish each of you and your respective families a very Merry Christmas! May your travels be safe. Vivat Jesus! Michael McNicholas, Grand Knight

Deputy Grand Knight s Report Dear Friends, At the November business meeting, the Charity Committee recommended three petitions for donations. The first was from Respect Life Chairman Jim McPherrin for $500 to purchase ad space in the Women s Centers of Chicago, 30th Annual Life Banquet program book. This recommendation was approved by the membership. The second request came from Worthy Warden Mike Harte for $50.00 to St. James to purchase and/or ship soccer balls for Fr. Gilbert to send to his village in Tanzania. This recommendation was approved by the membership. The third request came from PGK Randy Baker for $150.00 to be given to the Chicago Wheelchair Bulls to support the program for adults and children with disabilities. This recommendation was approved by the membership. The council received thank you letters from Sr. Faustina from St. James for the donation for the 2015 March for Life trip. Fr. Fialkowski from Our Lady of the Wayside, for the donation for their Advent books. We also received a thank you card from the St. Viator football team for the Council s support of the team s pre-game dinners during the season. Last month I gave you the final ID Drive totals earned by the parishes. This month, here are the totals that will be given to our partner charities: Village of Arlington Heights Disabilities Commission - $341.10 NAMI- 956.32 Clearbrook- $77.90 NSSEO (Miner School)- $2944.24 Marklund Children s Home- $446.99 Resources for Community Living- $978.30 Elite Stars- $636.30 FOCIT- $4114.35 These checks and those for the parishes will be distributed when received from the Illinois K of C office. Watch the newsletter and blasts for announcements. We still have Tootsie Rolls for sale and because they make great stocking stuffers, we have them at a special holiday reduced price. A sleeve is half off at $5.00 and 2 banks with midges are also $5.00. You can get your supply at any business or social meeting, or shoot me an email (scuba24@wideopenwest.com) and we will set you up. All money collected (after September 20 th ) goes towards the 2015 ID Drive. 2014 has been a great year for 4483 and I wish you are yours a very blessed and merry Christmas, and a safe, charitable and prosperous New Year. Fraternally yours, Deputy Grand Knight Ray Cordell Warden s Report We will have a First Degree on December 5, 2014. Starts at 7:00 PM. Please be prompt and candidates need to be here no later than 6:40 PM. There will be a Major Degree on January 25, 2015. Starts at Noon. Additional information to follow.

Chaplain s Report The souls of the righteous are in the hand of God, and no torment will ever touch them. But they are at peace because God tested them and found them worthy of himself. The above quote has been read throughout the Catholic Church in November as, November is the month in which we, as Catholic Christians, call to mind and celebrate our departed brothers and sisters, those who have passed from this life to hopefully, the joys of eternal life. You may have read or heard that we will be maintaining the names of our departed brother knights, their spouses and family for only a brief time (yet to be determined). This does not mean that we will stop praying for or remembering them no, it is simply a logistical and editorial move to keep our newsletters current and up to date. Like many of you, my parents and other extended family members have been gone a long time. It is at this time of year that certain memories resurface as we continue our traditions of decorating, cooking special foods and welcoming family and friends into our homes. It is the same with how we practice and hand down our faith. Our liturgical year designates what and when we celebrate the traditions of our Catholic faith. Advent, marking the birth of Jesus and God s gift of His Son to us, Lent, a time of renewal and penances and Easter, a time of great sorrow and great joy as we walk the path of Our Lord s passion, death and resurrection. Printed words are just that, sign post, markers that give us pause to read and remember but, the indestructible mark our loved ones have left on each of our hearts and memories may fade with time but, they can never be erased or forgotten. Let us celebrate this Christmas and holiday season with God in the present and not a time in history. Keeping Christ in Christmas means living with Him in the present and showing His love today, tomorrow and always. A Joyful and Blessed Christmas to everyone. Peace and Blessing Deacon Joseph Yannotta Chancellor s Report : Last Chance!!! Join us every Monday night during the NFL season. An Exemplification of the Principle of Unity: Chancellor s Report (cont d) A Vision of a Blessed Community: How good and pleasant it is, when brothers, dwell together as one. Like fine oil on the head, running down upon the beard, upon the beard of Aaron, upon the collar of his robe. Like dew of Hermon coming down upon the mountains of Zion. There the Lord has decreed a blessing, Life for evermore! Psalm 133. Part of the definition of Brothers in the Biblical Hebrew means, members of a group united by shared experiences and values. Let us not forget our second degree. This degree I feel is sometimes the most overlooked in our order. Through the Christmas season may we act consciously with Charity, Unity Fraternity and Patriotism, the four pillars of our order. Have a Blessed Advent and Christmas Season.
