What an exciting and special time. I must say, I am really inspired by the children s excitement and enthusiasm. I ask myself, How excited do I get everyday when I receive the Body and Blood of Christ? Do I still have that same enthusiasm I had when I was in second grade? I could not even sleep the night before because I was thinking about the special day. It is my prayer that these children are touched by God s love. It is my prayer that they never lose the joy they have. It is my prayer that all of us renew our love for, and trust in Jesus, the bread of life. It is a real privilege and honor to be able to say AMEN as the priest says The Body of Christ. Take and eat Live... Be nourished... know that I am with you always! Jesus walks with us, leads us, follows us and holds our hand. Jesus surrounds us with his love. Have a great week. Your friend, Fr. John PS On Monday I will leave for Eastern Europe. I will be with 28 others. Please know that in every Church I visit I will be praying for you. I will return on May 5th Reflections Luke 5:4-5 Jesus asks Peter, Put out into deep water, and let down the nets for a catch. Peter answers, Master, we ve worked hard all night and haven t caught anything. But because you say so, I will let down the nets. How many times have we said similar words? Jesus, I ve worked so hard and still no good results for all my efforts! You may feel like saying, I give up! Look closely at Peter s responses. Because you say so I will try again. Could it be that your success or healing is just one net cast away? Don t give up. Don Lane Next week, we will take up the Catholic Home Missions Appeal. Right now, over 40 percent of dioceses in the United States are considered home mission territory because they are unable to fund the essential pastoral work needed in their communities. Your support of this appeal helps ease the struggle of these dioceses. Please prayerfully consider how you can support this appeal. More information be found at www.usccb.org/home-missions 2

Sacraments for Adults Baptism Eucharist Confirmation Joining the Catholic Church Are you an adult who hasn t been baptized? Or maybe you haven t made your First Communion or been confirmed. Perhaps you ve been baptized in another Christian tradition and would like to join the Catholic Church? Please consider following Jesus in a more intimate way by preparing to receive these sacraments. The first step is to contact Father John. If Father isn t available, just leave a message at the office. Father or someone from our Adult Sacraments Team will arrange a time to meet with you to talk about the process here at St. Anthony s. If you re not baptized, you ll be asked to go to INQUIRY sessions which will be every Sunday morning beginning May 20. INQUIRY will be from 9:45 till 10:40 AM in the parish office. Following the INQUIRY, those who aren t baptized will go through the Catechumenate which will meet on Wednesday nights from 7 8:30. You ll find out more about that during Inquiry. Adults who are already baptized, whether in the Catholic Church or another Christian Church, may be asked to go to Inquiry and then through the Catechumenate, or they may go through a ten session sacramental preparation process. Your initial interview with Father will help determine which track you will take. If you ve already been baptized and have received your First Communion, then you are ready to prepare for Confirmation. Confirmation prep will also be part of the ten session process. However, you should still call Father John! The ten week sacramental prep process will be repeated several times throughout the year beginning in June. You can begin anytime during the year. Father or someone from our Adult Sacraments team will give you more information about that when you meet with them. If you know an adult who may be interested in receiving the sacraments or joining the church, please encourage them to call Father John. You can reach him at the Parish Office at 503-639-4179 ext 112 or jhenderson@ satigard.org. We re looking forward to hearing from you! 6
