Resurrection and the Spirit The season of Easter comes to its glorious conclusion with the great solemnity of Pentecost. In the Jewish tradition, Pentecost was a harvest-feast, celebrated 50 days after Passover (hence the name Pentecost, which means fiftieth in Greek). At this feast, bread made from the newly harvested grain would be offered to God. Later, this feast also became associated with the giving of the law on Mount Sinai. The gospel reading for this Pentecost Sunday, year B, is from the Gospel of John and is part of the last conversation the earthly Jesus has with his apostles (John 13-17). Remember chapter 13? Jesus shows the disciples how to be servant. In chapters 14-16, Jesus reminds them of how to LOVE one another, how to live a NEW COMMANDMENT, and, that the SPIRIT dwells within them. Jesus said at that last supper with his followers: When the Advocate comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who comes from the Father, the Spirit will testify on my behalf. (Jn 15:26) Pentecost gives us tremendous insight into God s plan of salvation and our involvement in Jesus saving deeds. Just as the Spirit testifies to Jesus, so must we! The Spirit glories Jesus; so must we! As we give glory to Jesus, our relationship to Jesus is revealed. We first received the Holy Spirit at baptism. Our relationship with the Risen Christ, his Father, in the Holy Spirit is established. Growing in our relationship with God, becoming more faithful disciples, we testify to Jesus in word and through our deeds. As the Body of Christ we take up a common mission to proclaim the Good News. Finally, this solemnity is frequently referred to as the birthday of the Church. And so it is for it celebrates our birth into resurrection life and being sent. Each year our Easter celebration challenges us to assess our treasure trove: God s dwelling among us; the relationship of hearing and living God s word and loving as Jesus did; being taught by and guided by the Spirit. These gifts are given to us so that WE ARE EASTER made visible.

May 24, 2015 Pentecost Sunday Generations of Faith - Join Us! Many thanks to the generosity of the Knights of Columbus of Menomonee Falls for their generous donation to Good Shepherd. Their generosity will enable us to purchase an Automated External Defibrillator for our Parish. Thank you to Michael Bub for facilitating this donation. Archbishop Oscar Romero is Beatified We rejoice with our brothers and sisters in our sister parish in Ellacuria on the beatification of Archbishop Romero on Saturday, May 23. Archbishop Romero is revered throughout all of El Salvador for his standing with the poor and his desire for peace. Generations of Faith (GoF) is an family Christian Formation program that includes both adults and children. Whether you are single, married, with children or without, all families of any size and age are welcome and encouraged to attend. GoF registration has begun for next year's sessions. You may have received a prepopulated registration invitation in the mail within the last month. If not, registrations can be found on the bulletin board in back of church. Fill it out and return it to the office by June 30th to take advantage of our early bird discount. Contact Mike, Bryan or Corinna with any questions. Prayer Warriors waiting to pray for you! Did you know that Good Shepherd has a prayer network? It's a group of parishioners just waiting to be told who needs their prayers. Many of our homebound parishioners stay connected to the parish by praying for others in the prayer network. If you or a loved one needs some prayers, please fill out a prayer card and put it in one of the wooden prayer boxes marked with a cross. There is one to the left as you enter the south entrance and a box near the Blessed Virgin statue in the narthex. All prayer requests are private. Information is given only to those people who volunteer to be part of the prayer network. Contact Lucy Filo at ffilo@wi.rr.com if you would like more information. Personal Prayer after Mass - All are welcome! Notes from at Good Shepherd If you have a personal or particular intention and would like the support of praying with another feel free to come to the Prayer Corner. Prayer leaders feel privileged to have the opportunity to pray with you on any subject. Listen for the announcement after Communion whenever a personal prayer leader is available after Mass. Join us for our meeting, Sunday, June 14 at 7 pm in the Mary of Magdala Chapel. in fidelity to the example of the Master, it is vitally important for the Church today to go forth and preach the Gospel to all: to all places, on all occasions, without hesitation, reluctance or fear. The joy of the Gospel is for all people: no one can be excluded. (Evangelii Gaudium #23) We at Good Shepherd know that Jesus lived the gospel of inclusion, reaching out to those rejected, without exception. Let us welcome our LGBT brothers and sisters to the table with joy! 2015 Bread for the World Offering of Letters After Masses, May 30 and 31 Congress must review and renew child nutrition programs every 5 years. The current programs are governed by the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010. It has to be renewed by September 30, 2015. This provides funding for SNAP (formerly known as food stamps), school meals, and summer meal programs which serve the most people. Food banks, which do receive food from the government, do not reach as many families. Through Bread for the World, we are urging Congress to pass a renewal of the Act that protects nutrition programs and gives more hungry children access to the food they need to grow and thrive. Come after the Masses on next Saturday and Sunday to send a brief letter to your senators and representative. Handwritten letters are still the most effective way to have an impact on Congress. We will provide pens and paper and sample letters and preaddressed envelopes that we mail out. Please bring address labels so you don't have to handwrite your return address.

News from the Falls Food Pantry Don t forget, Good Shepherd is scheduled to work at the pantry Tuesday and Thursday, June 16 and 18 from 11:45 am 2:00 pm and in the evening from 4:45 7:00 pm. No need to sign-up. Just show up when you are available during these hours. For further info contact Monica Shultz at 262 250-3489. Personal Prayer After Mass Ministry Needs YOU! We could use one or two more ministers of personal prayer after the 11 am liturgies from time to time, especially during the warm months. For information about what a wonderful experience it is (and how it's not really difficult!) please call Marie Bub (262) 251-5073 Bread Baking We are looking for more volunteers interested in baking Eucharistic bread 2-3 times a year. This is a great activity to do as a family or an individual. The new schedule runs July 2015 - June 2016. If interested contact Sara Van Beusekom, vanbeuseko@aol.com or Corinna Ramsey in the parish office. HELP WANTED for a paid position in the Good Shepherd nursery We provide a nursery upstairs in room 219 for 8:30 am Sunday Mass and we are looking to expand to all Masses. We need adults, 21 or older, to help provide a safe environment for our babies, toddlers and preschoolers during Mass. This is a paid position and is open to non-parishioners. Please contact Mike Crain or Corinna Ramsey to apply: 262-255-2035 or ramseyc@archmil.org. Folding Team Helpers Needed Each month we have fabulous volunteers who help fold the stewardship mailing that you receive in the mail. We could use a few more helpful hands. Your team would be scheduled 6 times per year to help fold the mailing on a Wednesday. Let Corinna know if you are interested in joining the mailing team. Prayer Shawls Needed Our stock of shawls is running low. Knitters and crocheters, please create more for our home bound friends. Free yarn and patterns are available in the coat room.
